Bridging the national border between Scotland and England, this inspiring 100km (62.5 miles) cross border route links Melrose in the Scottish Borders, where St. Cuthbert started his religious life in 650AD, with Holy Island off the Northumberland Coast, his eventual resting place and his original pilgrimage shrine. Although inspired by St. Cuthbert, this is far more than a pilgrimage route.
The first day is approximately 17- 18 miles from Melrose to Jedburgh taking in the Eildon Hills, the Rivers Tweed and Teviot and Lilliards Stone, amongst others.
Nearest train station to the start is Tweedbank which is about 1.7 miles away but buses are available to take you into Melrose on a regular basis.

Campsite I stayed in at Jedburgh was the Camping and Caravaning Club.

Cheers mate. Honestly, it’s a lush hike. A bit of everything. When planning it I planned it backwards, what with the tide times at holy island. They’ll have the timetable up now.

😂 as the day went on I realised how warm and sunny it had been. But I hadn’t realised how bad the sunburn was until I started videoing in the tent. 🙄

Thanks for sharing the journey. I’m hoping to start some training to do St Cuthberts Way later this year but I need to lose some weight and definitely get some distance walks in. It would be good to hear what you’ve brought with you, how you prepared for it, the weight of the pack etc if you get chance. Love your way of chatting to the camera 👍

Deliberately didn’t weigh it out, all I know is that the tent was 1.7kg. Didn’t want to obsess about it, but I certainly could have got it lighter. My boots were the main thing for me. Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex. I done a few 10ish mile walks with the full weight before doing it. Making sure it was a varied walk with hills, etc. but I still found the first day a little tough. I found it easier after that. Just make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. Thanks for watching Greg mate. Much appreciated. If you need to know anything more please get in touch. It’s a lush enjoyable walk. So varied. What I’ve done is copied my tick list below (which is worth doing because I’d always forget something if I didn’t). Seems like a lot but wasn’t really. Ah that’s magic- thanks for sharing that list. And thanks for the ideas about preparing by full weight walks on varied ground. I’m working my way through your videos (starting the Yetholme to Wooler one next) and really enjoying them. I’m pleased I’ve subscribed 😊
