The Chieftain

He is also the patron saint of butchers, farm workers, saddlers, archers, shepherds, boy scouts and crusaders, but that's not important right now. Also not important, he's the patron saint of Canada, England, Georgia (oddly enough), Greece, Germany, Malta, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Lithuania, Portugal, Montenegro and Ethiopia. The Order of Saint George is an officially unofficial but unofficially official award of the US Army's Armor and Cavalry Association, and the confusingly named but entirely non-associated Order of St George is the highest Russian military decoration.

@@DABrock-author In Spain Santa Barbara began as patron Saint of Engineers, but when artillery was taken from them as a separate branch, they "ceded" the patronage to the newly created artillery branch, and took San Fernando in her place. And Spanish infantrymen have the Inmaculada Virgin (look up Empel Miracle for longer explanation). Spanish Cavalry patron saint is the Apostle Santiago (Saint James in english), BTW.

This depiction of Saint George is actually far more intresting and has a far , far longer story than people think. You learn about that stuff on archaeology, but never from a tanker. Very..intresting and infornative short video i'd say!

Saint Barbara is the patron saint of Artillerymen and others who work with explosives In the 1920's the Pope declared Saint Mary to the patron of the United States because the Colony of Mary's Land was granted to Lord Calvert as a refuge for English speaking Catholics. It is today's State of Maryland.

In Spain, Saint Barbara was Engineers patron saint, but when artillery became it's own branch (XIX century, IIRC), they took Santa Barbara with them, and Engineers ended up with San Fernando.

Hmm, you answered a lot of old questions on my mind, thanks. Hope to see you at SAMRA one of these days, I usually go on the fun run days and help out club members by making repairs on their models. While stationed in Baumholder, GE in 2002-07 I was the event coordinator for the WWII Living History group made up of Active Duty Soldier volunteers and we used the M4A3 Sherman tank and a Halftrack from the museum for public displays and events, even took them to Bastogne in 2004 for the 60th anniversary event. I also own and restore vintage military vehicles since 1993 and rode in some incredible vehicles over the years, lots of crazy stories from that hobby, lol. Well, I’m the retired 11H/B E-7 with a couple CIB’s and other qualifications they make movies about so just tell the guys that Kevin spoke with you.
