Great review, as usual, Mr. Cassidy. Here's a suggestion. If you find fiddling around with your light source to be an annoyance, you might want to change the over all lighting scheme of your set. Even from the early days, I have thought it to be rather cave-like. Consider functional lighting for reviews over mood lighting. Just my two cents. Cheers!

I knew you couldn't wait amigo! I am surprised by the color choice though, I thought you would have gotten a wilder color. I definitely could recommend the Tusq string trees (white) for your guitar. For the humbucker you could put in the springs in the pickguard screws but you will want to raise the screws in the humbucker under the strings. Raise those up, that helps to wake up a humbucker. For the push/pull you might want to put on Tele some knobs, they tend to be easier to grab. I'm happy for you buddy, enjoy!

@@stevecassidyguitarbtw mate I got an idea for a video. Where guitars are made and who makes them. Specifically Jet, Harley Benton, Soloking,Eart,Donner etc etc. I’m very interested to know where these guitars exactly come from and are some of them made in the same factories etc? Up until I’ve not been able to definitively answer this. But it’s possible yes? The obvious one was Jet and Fazley. Now I see similarities between the new Harley Benton Pro line flame top and The Sire S7 etc. It’s intriguing imo. Woukd make for a very interesting video. Roller string trees are under £4 y'll be alright. The dark sounding humbucker may be an indication that the volume potentiometer is a 250k ( a common mishap on HSS Guitars). Swapping it out for a higher value (e.g. 500k) may solve the problem. No one seems to have done a teardown video yet (get on that if you like) so I don't know what value the stock potentiometer is for sure. Some people actually prefer thin trem' blocks and find them more responsive. Despite the impression most American KZfaqrs give it's not a universally regarded as bad thing. That trem' sounds incredibly responsive & popped right back into tune after divebombing in a way a fender just can't do, and with brand new strings! That's remarkable! I think you're gonna be ok ;-)

I definitely need to get that tape off the pickup too - That might help 😂 Cheers for the suggestions 😀👍 And your right about the string trees, but if they cost me £4, what would it cost Mr Benton to buy in bulk? Seems weird to skimp on such a small thing, but potentially crucial for tuning stability. Especially if you want to do a good job of promoting the new fancy trem choice 🤷‍♂️ But yeah - The trem does feel nice despite it having a smaller block - But it's keeping the weight down - So i'm happy 😁

Great news a good sample with no dings or laquer cracks. Necks are always a personl choice, i prefer slim wide radius ones so this one may be a bit on the thick side for me. At least the pickguard and plastic parts are far better than the other colours. Would i buy one, i don't think so at the moment for now my Fusion 2 still keeps me happy.

The neck is thicker than I expected it to be. But It's not super thick, I just thought it was gonna be really thin. It might be slightly thinner than the Fusion. I did find a wee ding on the fretboard after filming though 😬 But It's barely noticeable. And the Tuners are really stiff
@Barbarapape
@Barbarapape Ай бұрын
@@stevecassidyguitar Shame about that wee ding, i was hoping that you had a rare perfect sample. Re the neck, having owned over 30 guitars i have learned that the only way to be certain is try before you buy, otherwise you just regret taking a risk and having to return or sell it at a loss. The tuners appear to be of the locking vintage style there are aftermarket ones but they are hard to find and expensive, the cheap ones are not very good. Perhaps they just need some lubrication and bedding in with a powered string winder. It will be intersting to see how you get on with some 9-42 strings on it.

I wouldn't really make that comparison mate - One is made to "vintage" specs and the other is Uber modern. They're close in price of course. I'd say the QC is on par with both, these new HB's are getting mixed reviews RE QC, but so do Squier. @stevecassidyguitar
@stevecassidyguitar Ай бұрын
Ok... So this is the same method as how Eart do thier frets. The normal method for installing frets would be for them to be cut and then trimmed slightly proud of the fretboard, hammered in, then trim and shape the edges. But the way (The Eart way) The frets are cut, and the ends rounded into a smooth "ball like" edge (just shy of the fretboard edge) before they are installed on the fretboard. Apparently so yeah. I don't know if Thomann have confirmed this yet have they? I wouldn't be surprised if it's out of the Manling Factory (Soloking/ East coast/Ibanez Gio) It definitely has some Soloking vibes to it

The skinny block surprised me too 🤷‍♂️ So many people say great things about the Babicz trem, I Expected a full thickness block. I suppose as long as it works well and keeps the weight down, then that's a small bonus

It's amazing after listing issues with yours (including uneven frets) you convince yourself and state it has zero issues. Nigh on every other unboxing video you watched had issues too which you describe in this video. Sounds like potentially every one has issues, but certainly a high percentage - who would waste £400 on that? Makes no sense to me as someone who wants a working guitar to play. I guess because it falsely appears cheap (a guitar with uneven frets isn't really worth anything is it?) you rationalise the flaws away almost as soon as you've stated them. Oh you don't seem to understand specs either. e.g There's plenty of nickel steel fret wire that's more expensive than stainless steel (from the same manufacturer) i.e you seem to have been convinced, perhaps by some overpriced USA guitars, that stainless steel is a higher spec, but it's a harder material that's all, it's not more expensive particularly - and there's as much variety in the price between each material (nickel silver, stainless steel, evo gold etc) as there is within each category, i.e you can pay twice as much for some stainless steel fret wire as others but equally spend more on nickel silver than you do for stainless steel. It's a spec where unless they tell you what fret wire they used you can't really put a value on it. e.g I have cheap guitars that have medium nickel silver frets and they've worn away, but I have big jumbo frets on a ESP LTD that I've had 20 years and they are showing no significant signs of wear - not all nickel fret wire is the same and it's not like cheese it doesn't just wear away, unless perhaps your experience is with cheap fret wire on budget guitars. I mean, yeah, I'd get a guitar today with stainless steel frets, but with eyes open that the words "stainless steel" are not sufficient to tell you the quality and it certainly doesn't mean it's higher spec or should cost more than another guitar with nickel silver fret wire. It's like buying tools, if they say "steel" that doesn't mean anything because cheap tat tools as well as more expensive and significantly better tools can be made from steel. Pretty much everything else on the guitar is own brand. a cheap brand or unbranded right? I mean I have a £150 guitar that has locking tuners on it but, again, perhaps because they appear on some really high price guitars some seem convinced they are a high spec thing. Not really. Undoubtedly some tuners (locking ones included) are branded and cost a lot more. That would be a high spec.

You know what mate - I can't argue with that at all - You're completely right! 😂🙈. That's the unboxing excitement I guess, I very rarely do unscripted, unplanned vids and this was one of them. Also, I pretty much discount a lot of it , until I've got 9's on it, and set up how I like it. But I might even uncover more uneven frets 😬. Thank you for keeping me honest mate 😎👊

Yer "not a bridge player"? Is this a card joke or a pickup reference, I can't tell....
@stevecassidyguitar
@stevecassidyguitar Ай бұрын
If you're being serious... It's not a card joke 😂. Bridge players are players who mainly play fixed bridge guitars and get used to resting the back/side of thier palm against the bridge. When they transfer over to a guitar with a trem, they can have some comfort and tuning issues 🤓

Yeah - that's my thoughts too! As/is, it has 10's on and quite high action. I'm a weakling, so I'll be putting 9's on and I like low action with what i deem to be "an acceptable amount" of fret buzz. Once I get it to that point, we might uncover more uneven frets 😬 I'm hopeful that's not the case though
