About 20 years ago, Stacey built a 67 C10 truck on TV called “COPPERHEAD”. From the humble beginnings of just a frame and cab to the rumbling monster it became, nobody dreamed that the truck would go on to become one of the most influential trucks of all time. The influence was so strong it helped start the custom truck craze that continues to this day. But what made it so iconic and different? Well, today on GEARZ Stacey answers those questions as he walks you through the build and showcases the unique features and parts that went into building it, and the thought process behind it. It’s a rare look at the story behind the build, and It’s only on GEARZ!

Turned on PlutoTV tonight and they were playing trucks. The whole copperhead build was on there. At the very beginning of the build I was like "Is that copperhead!?" Then I told my girl about how it was gonna get a 572 and she was like "how do you know about this truck?" lmao. I haven't seen or even thought of this truck in over 15 years, but I remembered it like when I was a kid watching it at my dad's. That's how important copperhead was for the car world. We'd always watch those Saturday car shows and yours was our favorite. So, here I am decided to look up and it's good to see the truck is still around. It was hilarious hearing you brag about the price of the truck how they are easy to find. IIRC, on the original episode you said you bought the (nearly perfect) cab and frame for $500. I laughed pretty hard. In the early 2000s though, that was correct though. There were a good number of them around and people were selling them cheap. Another thing that we always found funny was how you said everything was a "budget build". Coming from a poor family, nothing you did was a "budget build". lmao. At least not our budget. Last thing is I forgot how many simple useful tricks your shows would always have. In the original copperhead truck, you made brackets for the fuel pump and filter. Instead of measuring, you just took a piece of cardboard, laid it over the frame and hammered it to essentially stamp the cardboard. Simple, easy, and did the trick. This took me down memory lane. Thanks for the videos and uploads Stacey!

The goal was always to do a top dollar build while also giving plenty of *options* on how to keep it cheap.

By the way, Stacey thanks for helping kickstart my love for cars and trucks, between Trucks tv and Hot Rod/Horsepower tv with Chuck and Joe back in the late 90’s through the 2000’s when I was just a teenager.

I think a 4x4 copperhead Blazer would be popular. Now that we are older, we need more seats in the hot rods for kids and grandkids.

I'd love to have an old 4 door 40s/50s Plymouth or something like that to turn into a hot rod. The 4 doors are so underrated.

Stacey, we need more guys like you these days. Out here on KZfaq and whatnot. It's really sad to see the direction the modern automobile industry is headed. One can only hope for a future of Ethanol or Hydrogen burning monsters and synthetic plant-based oils. We need to reawaken the gear head mentality.

I remember this build back on Trucks, and loved it at the time. I also remember you saying it was supposed to be built on a budget the average gearhead could afford. What ended up being the budget for the original Copperhead build?

I heard somewhere that the 572 you originally put in it was gone when you bought it back??? so that means that the engine you have in it isn't the 1st 572 right??
@OfficialStaceyDavid
@OfficialStaceyDavid Жыл бұрын
That is incorrect. The original 572 is still in the truck. Whoever built the replica that sold at auction last year likely made up that story to help pass off their truck as the original Copperhead.

@@OfficialStaceyDavid but somehow i remember that you did a video of when you found copperhead after many years that there was a 350 in the truck and the 572 had been removed and used in another vehicle and it was long gone

The rear brakes are from Aerospace Components. The footage from Nashville Superspeedway is owned by the company that produced Trucks, so we weren't able to reuse it here.

You lucked out when you got a 572 for the price because all of the big blocks are racing engines now Great scott I think you not being on trucks really lead to the decline of the power train line up on spike tv How many people can afford a big block crate motor these days You went with a straight 6 for that denim jeep upgrade No big block there
