They couldn't have chosen a better clip for him (maybe one from Columbo) but this was much more poignant.

This is the year my mother passed away and it is such a beautiful song and always reminds me of her and brings tears to my eyes just listening. I miss her so much she was not the best mother. But she was my mother and I loved her so much.

The love that one has for their mother is unlike any other. Mom's are special and our love for them is also, rightfully so. Cherish the fond memories.....alwzys.

This song, wrapped up in velvet and tied with a beautiful bow, also reminds me of my mother as well. None of us come with a warning label stating that our time on this earth is a limited one. My Mother, Father, and little Brother never leave my thoughts, and never will, until I draw MY last breath.

I lost one of my best friends today and could only be reminded of this video. Life is short let's try to remember that and take care of each other always and never sweat the unimportant things in life

TCM deserves an Oscar for such a beautiful tribute. The song is haunting and together with the images of the stars makes me cry. Well done TCM!

Every year TCM does a masterful job of its in memoriam tribute but this year's is by far the best. The dissolve of James Arness and Peter Falk's vocal interjection struck a chord in me.

Seeing this just breaks my heart... especially when they get to Edward Hardwicke. Dear god, it's like they chose the one clip that was guaranteed to tear my soul into little pieces... Kenneth Mars, Elisabeth Taylor, John Neville, Peter Falk, Edward Hardwicke... all of you, you will all be missed greatly.

As others have mentioned, TCM does such a memorable job of assembling these tributes. They let the camera linger just long enough before moving on to the next subject and they do an amazing job of shooting and editing the transitions between sections, not to mention choosing clips which work with the music beautifully and with each other. Bravo, TCM - and thank you.

Started to tear up when I saw James Arness. Couldn't help it. Rest In Peace. They're all in Heaven now. Playing cards with James Byron Dean and MLK, JFK, and "THE DUKE".

stacia99, Just wanted you to know we're still watching this video after all these years. I remember the first time I heard it when it was first played in 2011 and being shocked at some of those who had died during that year. Thank you for leaving this up for us to continue watching often. :0) Donna B.

:( Harry Morgan's dead? just last week, my younger brother was watching a rerun of MASH and Harry Morgan came on the screen and i remember saying "it's hard to believe Harry Morgan's still around"...i mean, he was on the show during the last few seasons and into the 1980's and he did look like he was 80 years old even back then...R.I.P.

I caught this on TCM for the first time this morning, and IMMEDIATELY had to find it! I mainly listen to Metal or Classical music (though I detest both of those terms), but I love old movies as well. This song is amazing! I have to agree with chadvonswan: the song coupled with the images is incredibly moving.

TCM always shows the greatest respect for movies and actors...even more when it comes to their yearly "Remembers" segments...it's just a shame that it seems every year the list of performers and directors gets longer and longer...

While it's sad that these people are gone, at least most of them lived to advanced ages, including two who lived past 100, according to Wikipedia. God bless and Merry Christmas!

This and the 2003 TCM remembers are my favorite. I just saw the 2012 one, not as good as last years but it will still beat out whatever the oscars give us. I also didn't know that Ann Rutherford died =( I loved her so much.

I can always rely on TCM doing the best remberance... it inspires to look up actors/actresses that I have never heard of. Sadly the Oscars will never learn & use this....they might have to get rid a couple of jokes for the host or drop a dance number.

I may not have known the names, but I knew many of the faces. I didn't know David Nelson died earlier this year. I agree with everyone. TCM's rememberance is far superior to the Academy Awards (and all other award shows if you ask me). They don't look down on someone because they weren't well known or known for movies. I do believe that was the Academy's reasoning for not including Farrah.

Seems to me there shouldn't be too many today's actors on these tributes! They should get their awards when deserved, but the Golden Age of movie making is over. Years of great writing, n acting is just gone for the most part. They're relying on special effects, sex, n substandard remakes out there in Hollywood now!

In the Cliff Robertson segment, what film is featured at 3:13? Is it Obsession?
@ThylekShran4 жыл бұрын
That's a clip of Renato Salvatori and Annie Girardot from 'Rocco and His Brothers,' serving as a callback to Girardot's earlier appearance in the tribute and placed here to make it appear as though Cliff Robertson is the one walking into her arms. Just a bit of artistic license.
