⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝️ The "K" in KPop stands for "Korean", so no, not KPop. They are Japanese. As a base BABYMETAL fuse JPop/Idol with metal. They incorporate a wide range of other stuff into their music, depending on the song. They're all different, and (IMO), all pretty great. This is definitely one of their poppier songs. That blast beat still gets you though. And the whole thing is about 10x heavier live. They have been joined on stage for this one by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Though not all at the same time. : ) No deep meaning to this one, although many of their other songs have deeper lyrics. 'Karate' is a great next song to try: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdx0ZqZ5ppqcoHU.html Or, if you're ready to see the lead singer Su-metal command a sold-out arena filled with 20,000 people, try 'Road of Resistance' (Live in Japan): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalQ.html

As a 55yr old rocker, white, biker, trailer trash guy from the midwest I absolutely LOVE Babymetal!! So much so that I drove 300 miles last September to St Paul, MN & saw them in a 3000 capacity club & then in October I flew to LA for their first ever USA arena show at the Forum. Another band from Japan just released a new live video for their song Domination & would love for you girls to react to it. The band is Band-Maid & it's posted to their official channel. I'll subscribe now in anticipation of Band-Maid & some more Babymetal of course. Oh yeah, Band-Maid is the best "hard rock" band I've heard in 30yrs so I hope you give them a listen. Great job ladies!!

You should really react to a true live performance before trying to review them vocally... This is a studio audio overlayed on top of a live video montage. I would suggest you to react to "Ijime, Dame Zettai" Live at Sonisphere 2014 or "Karate" Live at Download 2016 before reviewing them properly on their vocal prowess. This is not fair :).

'Gimme Chocolate' is the video that went viral in 2014 when people passed it round to friends to get the 'WTF' reaction. BABYMETAL know perfectly well that is the reaction they would get from this song. It is one of their more fun and pop-ish songs, they have 3 studio albums now and virtually every song is different. This video has the studio audio over footage from a live show in December 2013. They sound much better live - in the studio the vocals are over-processed and compressed. Live they sing without auto-tune and effects etc and the lead singer (Su-metal) is very capable of making it all sound better than on the album while doing the choreo. She has been singing and dancing professionally since she was about 8 or 9 (and was on stage long before that). She spoke in a recent interview about how she moves in the studio to get her breathing techniques right for each song so she can make it as perfect as possible whilst also dancing. BABYMETAL are Japanese - Kpop is from Korea, this is not Kpop. BABYMETAL first formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of an Idol group with the idea of fusing Jpop style aesthetics with metal. The whole concept was developed around Su-metal with her vocal talents and stage presence. They were not "manufactured" in the sense you probably think where someone in a boardroom has a money making idea and casts people who look good to fill the spaces. This was one man's idea based around his recognising the potential of a young girl. He was given no extra budget as nobody considered his idea would ever make money - metal was dying in Japan, being forced underground and playing to shrinking audiences as only Jpop was given any radio or TV air time. They separated to become a band in their own right in 2013. The band you saw her in skeleton suits were known as Babybones and mimed the instrumentals. They were replaced bit by bit from late 2012 and permanently for all live shows from early 2014 and ever since by the Kami Band, some of Japan's very best musicians. They play anything from thrash, to black metal to prog and folk metal and all things between, but also mix in other musical styles and genres - they even have an Indian Bollywood style song now along with a trap rap song - and Su-metal masters all the different vocal styles every time. In 2014 BABYMETAL became the youngest average age female band (just under 15) to headline the Budokan in Tokyo (The Beatles were the first bad to play there) and sold out 2 nights running. They opened the main stage at Sonisphere in the UK later in 2014 in front of 60,000 potentially hostile UK metalheads having been warned the crowd there had been known to throw bottles at bands they didn't like - they left the stage with the crowd calling for "one more song". In 2016 they became the first Japanese band to headline Wembley Arena in the UK and sold out two nights at Tokyo Dome (55,000 people each night). They have also won nearly 30 international awards from publications like Kerrang, Loudwire and MTV for things like best live act. They even won women of the year in 2015 from Vogue Japan. Their latest album became the first by any Asian band ever to hit Number 1 in the Billboard Hard Rock charts, it was at 13 in the top 200 chart, the highest ever by any Japanese artist singing in Japanese. They played their first US arena show in October 2019 at The Forum in LA, timed to coincide with the release of the album. That was part of a 20 date headlining tour of the US. They have recently completed a sold out tour of 17 dates in Europe. Please react to one of their songs that shows their talents better than the 'Gimme Chocolate' video and has more meaningful lyrics (they have plenty of them, nearly all with a positive message) - and one with the Kami Band supporting them. My suggestions would be 'Road of Resistance' live in Japan or 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (the same show as 'Gimme Chocolate', but the Kami Band were there for the last 5 songs or 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, Forever) live at Sonisphere 2014. Hi Haley and Lucy Good reaction! Thanks for checking out my favorite band BABYMETAL! They are a Japanese group that mixes J-pop vocals with metal music, a genre they call "Kawaii Metal" which means "Cute Metal". Good ears picking up on the production as this was the studio recording played over the performance at their "Legend 1997" concert, Su-Metal's (lead singer) 16th birthday show, she was born in 1997. The other two girls, YuiMetal and MoaMetal, were 14 at the time. To give you an idea of how long they've been at this, Su is 22 now, while Yui and Moa are 20. This year in October will be their 10 year anniversary. "Gimme Chocolate" is one of their more poppier songs and this video is the one that went viral as people were sharing it to shock their friends. It's usually not one I recommend to people new to the group as it was my first exposure to BABYMETAL and I dismissed them as a gimmick until I rediscovered them 1 year later. The group considers themselves more performing artists than recording artists and are one of the very few bands which are better live! You should check out some proper live performances of theirs to see what they can really do! Here are my next recommendations: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" - Live at Sonisphere 2014 UK - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html - Title translates to "Bullying, No Good, Absolutely". This was the last song of their first big show in the west where they were bumped up to the main stage. The girls were scared the UK metal heads were going to throw bottles and boo them off the stage. "Rondo of Nightmare" with Mischiefs of the Metal Gods Intro - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h96JdMZ63tGWc6M.html - The girls are backed by the Kami Band (God Band) made up of some of the best metal musicians in all of Japan, and in my opinion the world. This is a Su-Metal solo, but it really shows off the Kamis and Su's voice. "Road of Resistance" Live in Japan - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalY0.html - This is how BABYMETAL ends an arena show.

Once again KZfaq has deleted my post 2 minutes after it was posted. Anyway, what I was trying to say was that this particular video is actually the studio version of Gimme Choco laid over the live performance so not truly live. Babymetal has fun silly songs like this one and more serious songs but all are very well done. It's difficult to tell from this one song but Su-Metal (the lead singer) has a very good voice and tremendous stage presence. In my opinion, she is one of the best singers and entertainers in the business. Babymetal is a LOT of fun to see live and it is always highly recommended that people watch their live shows. No! They are not K-pop. They are Japanese.. :)

The lyrics may not be the most sophisticated, but in my opinion that's not a bad thing in the case of this song. This is supposed to be fun, first and foremost. And as you hinted at, they can be interpreted as being about social pressure, so there is a message, it's just presented in a BABYMETAL way. I'm totally in love with this band, they have given me hours and hours of smiles and good mood. You should try another song or two, many listeners get hooked after the third song. If you choose a real live video, you might learn to appreciate Su's vocals more, and the band is exclusively made up of top notch musicians as well. I know for most westerners that its hard to tell the difference between Korean and Japanese, but for both Japanese and Korean they really do not like to be confused, also their fans REALLY hate it so best to know they are Japanese. Watch Road of Resistance Live in Japan, Pa Pa Ya, if you want to see Babymetal at their best. BABYMETAL 101 Founded 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old), Riho Sayashi (21 years old) ((Riho most likely is not an avenger anymore)), and Momoko Okazaki (17 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka Yui-Metal (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moa-Meta, and Yui-Metal, Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (Name means No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story) Metal Galaxy Era The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert was well worth it. COVID Era COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show and featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

Babymetal doesn't have a style. People hear Gimme Chocolate and think that every song is like this. Only one other song in 3 albums is like this and not very much like it. But nearly every song is great. They're fun but they can also be serious and heavy.

This is the studio version over a live performance most likely so it would be clean and not have any audience chatter to mess with the MV Most Babymetal fans prefer them live which makes sense as Babymetal was formed basically because of the main girl Su’s voice

Awwww, check the billboard rating .. Anyway they are great in concert and a lot of fun. They are so nice they let these groups close for them, DRAGONFORCE, Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and Guns N' Roses, Korn and Stone Sour, Rob Halford from Judas Priest then Judas Priest in full up... Some of them on some pretty long tours. It is genius. They have two huge concerts with incredible stages and insane production then tour under some one else's ticket or in smaller venues as headliners. Selling lots of stuff and music .. It is the sixties again!!! Check out Perfume and One OK Rock to see where they came from.

When I reached the end of the video, I was just like "is that it?", cause I never saw why there's so many dislikes! I can understand that some people just think KPop=cutesy Asian pop, and don't really take the time to think about what it really is. At least the comment section seems kinder and actually corrected quite civilly. Anyway, nice reaction. I'll go ahead and watch your RoR reaction.

I've gotten sucked into Babymetal reaction videos several times. It's always nice to see a fresh pair of ears experiencing them for the first time. I would agree with all of the other comments that tell you not to end your Babymetal journey here. As far as another artist to react to, please try Mon Laferte. Almost all of the reaction videos I've seen her for a live performance of hers for "Tu Falta De Querer," and it's amazing, but I keep hoping someone will do a reaction for this live clip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLB-pMmT16_Zj5c.html
