The GTI is fun, there's no doubt about it. Coming from your ST3 it'll be familiar but different. More solidly planted and not quite as frantic. But. Get the R. I picked up a '16 GTI because I wanted to save the extra bit of cash and get the slightly better fuel economy. Just jumped into a '19 R and it's just so much more. Think about the tunes, bolt-ons, and upgrades that you would do to the GTI in order to get it to where the R is, and you'll realize that the cost isn't really that much of a jump. Plus, you'll never be able to get the GTI to spin all four tires. Learn from my mistake, and just go straight into a R!

@@AtomNic Absolutely. Don't get me wrong, the GTI takes well to modifications and there are people making some crazy power numbers, but the R platform puts that all down so much better. Especially in the rain or snow. My strong advice to the OP would be looking for a used Mk7 or Mk7.5 Golf R, depending on your budget. If you can't make the numbers work, the GTI is still a solid car, but every time you see the R, you'll be thinking "damn". Check out some of the drives that Matt and Zack did in Golf R on the Smoking Tire channel. Just wild.

I can explain mate? Stage 1 = Remap (a turbo elbow and intake is advisable and will net about 10 bhp) Stage 2 = De-cat downpipe and different software (intercooler recommend) Stage 3 = Hybrid or larger turbo. Hardware needed will be all the above and different injectors, maybe updated diverter valve to cope with the increase in boost. Hope this helps

is completely correct the DQ250 can handle 350Nm torque and the DQ381 around 380-450 the DQ381 also shifts faster indeed and is generally stronger

@@hassanhamdaoui9616 That is not true at all, I have a DQ250 that handles 530Nm on stage 1 ECU and a stage 2 TCU map. The DQ381 is better equipped to handle power and Tq but your figures are just way off

500bhp and 650nm max in our opinion for block. Stock clutch on box can take 700nm easy

The 7 speed DQ381 is more reliable as it has separate lubrication of the mechatronic. Both DQ381 and DQ250 need a TCU upgrade. Stock TCU is crap

@@TolandTheShattered To get higher power figures people run the car in 2wd 'dyno mode', forcing the car to only use fwd. Gets you bigger numbers. Hence his question.

A vehicle that uses a haldex controller means when the front wheels spin the rear wheels activate for a brief moment to remain momentum without losing more grip. This pulse of usage is not for prolonged periods of time and the diff has not got the sufficient cooling for this. Hence we use manufacturers dyno mode so as to alleviate constant strain on forcing 4 wheels to maintain power. Our Bapro dyno measures the parasitic loss on coast down hence the figures between 4wd and 2wd are identical but without unnecessary strain on the rear diff. There are many topics about this.. so do your reading before making assumptions

Surely the haldex /rear diff can't be overheating that quick with 'straight line' dyno runs considering there are lots of people forcing their haldex to continuous higher percentage rear bias?

@@NVMotorsportUK I get what BHP is but why are the only utube channel listing BHP on a dyno. The dyno reads the HP to the front of rear wheels. So the car makes about 400 whp then? Thats kinda weak for this Turbo imo.

@@TENNESSEETRACKHAWK in the uk we use BHP then calculate our WHP from that which is normally minus 15% due to drivetrain loss, every time and I literally mean every time I watch an American video you are always getting your figures wrong, you all think that the number you get is WHP which is not you need to minus 15%......for example americans will say a f80 m3 stage 2 is 620whp when thats literally impossible a good stage 2 is 540whp, for it to be 620 at the wheels it would mean its over 700bhp😂 yall seriously need to learn what the fuck your talking about

I think the reason is because this is a manual car, I noticed he doesnt have paddle shifters on his steering wheel

@@TheSoundzUK 10.000 miles is okay, but only for normal driving. If you have remapped your engine, then I would definitely change on shorter intervals.
