The wall of Mas de la Costa went to Valverde and ‘Superman’ dresses again as a leader.
The seventh stage of the Tour was won by Alejandro Valverde. Miguel Ángel López is the new leader of the general classification.
The wall of Mas de la Costa put everyone in their place and there were only four cyclists who endured at the head of the race. Nairo Quintana, Alejandro Valverde, Miguel Ángel López and Primoz Roglic disputed the stage in the last four kilometers.
Nairo was the one who led the pace. It accelerated and when Valverde yielded it slowed. In teamwork rarely seen in Movistar, they kept ‘Superman’ and Roglic at bay. In the last meters, ‘The bullet’, the fastest and most powerful of the four, accelerated, had no rival and won the stage. Roglic was second, Michelangelo third and Nairo entered fourth. The leader of the Astana is, again, red jersey.
