A cover of "Stained glass eyes" by Elliott Smith, performed by Ethan Daum.
This one wasn't released on any album... it really says something about a songwriter when a song this beautiful doesn't even make it onto an album.
Guitarists:
This one isn't too difficult to play. I'm tuned down a whole step (as Elliott often was), but I have a capo on the first fret.
One detail is that the high E string stays open the whole song. This is especially cool when you get to "So you must play the comic". It's like a F# shaped bar chord, except the high E is open so you can't really play it like a bar chord. I use my thumb there for the low E string.
The other cool detail is that for the verse the guitar is kind of playing a melody in the midst of the strumming - but it's not quite the same as the vocal melody which creates a unique interplay between the guitar and vocals. If you listen and watch my hands you can figure it out - it's just playing around on a D chord shape.
