Gary was indeed a great guitarist and the band was an original no doubt. However, Ricky Medlocke was originally in Skynyrd as drummer before forming the great Blackfoot band. Ricky came back to the band as guitarist and he is a true American rocker - Great singer and guitarist.
@americansamiam8 ай бұрын
@CluelessGamer66 Yes Billy was an original member but my reply was about the last remaining original member - Ricky Medlocke was an original member. He left to do Blackfoot (greatness also) before coming back 20 years or so ago as guitarist instead of drummer. Artiumus Pyle is an original member ( after Ricky) but he has never been back with the group with Johnny as singer. The band has put out new music (some really good music and some just ok) so it wasnt just a tribute band. At this point however, I prefer to have Johnny do his thing with Donnie (van zant brothers) and have Ricky do Solo thing.

It is always great to see Johnny VanZant, I grew up with Johnny in Jax. FLA. Went to Edward H. White high school. We had history class together. They used to play at Playground South and Big Daddy's Lounge. Fixed his ford van couple times, moved some gear with them . Those guys were hard working and I felt privileged to be there and work beside them. Wow times do fly. Still play all the music Lynyrd Skynyrd all of it, and Kid Rock as well. I wanted to see ZZ Top in the worst way for the longest time. They finally came to town on a double billing with Lynyrd Skynyrd and were blown right off the stage. The musicianship of Lynyrd Skynyrd was something I just wasn’t prepared for. WOW! They were phenomenal!

Wow that must have been AMAZING to see both bands on one bill, must have been a fantastic show! I've seen ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd at two different shows, both bands have everyone up singing and dancing - everyone knew the words - how could you not, most of us had listened to their music for years - we grew up with this vibe everywhere, what a great time. I've got great memories of that time and the freedom we had 'back in the day's. What a time to grow up - when music was music! Thank you so much from your fans!
