Hey everyone, I've been asked why my 30 year-old senior horse stays outside all the time, even at night when she could be in a stall. I made this video to address that question and explain why Duchess enjoys being in her paddock around the clock.

😍😍😍😍This is the best explanation I've ever heard about leaving an older mare or any horse out all night; those tiny stalls are mental torture. They need their pasture-pet companion and walking in between 20 minutes of sleeping. Our herd of 20 donkeys were always rustling about, at night; you could hear them go down to the creek for the fresh water.

I had horses my entire childhood and we never locked our horse's in their stall! That's like locking yourself in a closet and the only thing you can do is turn in circles!! Youknow your horse better than anyone❤ Keep doing what you do because it's amazing

I agree with you it’s best to have your horse move around. I feel it’s best that they can move as much as possible especially with the older horses. As long as they have a shelter to go in if they want out of the bad weather.

A downed horse in a small enclosed area is a nightmare. It's a terrible fact, but if she does go down for any reason due to her advancing age, it's so much better to have room to work in.
