Nice thing about these Chinese stamps is that it's a complete set. I also soak the hinges off, but only if it's a used stamp. The cyrillic overprint on the Russian stamp says China, it's from Russian post offices in China. This one is RU-CH 3 from 1899. Never heard of stamps cut in two. I thought that would render them invalid.
@mallardstamps3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the stamp cut in two is really interesting, hoping someone can give some insight into the phenomenon!
@philmerrill42803 жыл бұрын
The philatelic term for that is "bi-sect." This usually happened in small countries or colonies when supplies were low, and only post masters could do it, not just anyone. They can be quite rare, but only when they are still on cover.

I collect stamps since 1972. I started China and Hong-Kong since 1997 in Israel, Mallard. I don't have these stamps. I am looking in my catalog. I started in Paris 8at the age of 8 (1972), went to Los Angeles for 12 years (1980-92), collected there and now,, since 1992, I live in Israel, and a friend of my mother told me, like your friend: your mother told me you were collecting stamps. Her late husband was a " professional collector" She told me: eitjer I give you the stamps or I throw them away. I told her: I want them. Now, I have his collection, and that is why I stared China and Hong-Kong...I have not found your 4 chinese stamps. . David Barban

The american "Washington" where it says "bue" is a stamp that exists. I have it. It is a 3 cents Washington. Not a lot of value. I work with Michel katalog, because my stamp shop sells them.

Thank you for this, very informative.. How do re-glue stamps to old albums my husband inherited some from his grandfather years ago and they have been sitting in a drawer and the stamps are falling out.. They are on paper like this one you are showing us. Is it better to take then out of the album and put them in a new one?
@mallardstamps3 жыл бұрын
Great question, I personally remove stamps I want to keep in my collection and then place them into a stock book. So in my opinion it might be good to get a stock book and transfer the stamps over to keep them safe and so you don’t lose any!

No. Your grandfather put many hours on those stamps. Leave as is until you decide you're path. If you keep them start going to a local stamp club.

The red US revenue stamp that appears at 4:37 is interesting. It is listed in the Specialized Scott US catalog. It represents a special tax that motorists had to pay during World War II. These stamps were gummed on the design side and every motorist was required to place them on their windshield, just as inspection stickers are placed today. Many times, on the back of these stamps you will find a year, make and serial number of an automobile from that time.
@willardtaylor62493 жыл бұрын
Many times,bisected stamps are valuable, as you mentioned, especially when left on paper. However, the stamp from Guatemala is not. It is Scott number 300 which catalogs very little.
