So many beautiful notes played- so many lovely dreams given by one so talented . One who gave to so many who adored him, as I did and so fortunate to have shared the moments - too brief but , oh, so warm. I miss you buddy . All I can do is thank you Stan; my friend. Well I've got to say that I remember seeing Stan Getz practicing with his band in his home in NY in this fantastic acoustically perfect round room in his house,. It was a front room on the left as you came in the front door. Being friends with his daughter but only 16, I didn't realize I was in the presence of greatness. I saw him frequently. We were not allowed in this room when he wasn't there, but of course we went in anyway and tested the sound in this beautiful room with whoops and clapping. The echo was amazing. The floor was beautiful wood and the room was light and airy with stained glass circling the top and then was elevated more in a dome.. The light it made was beautiful. Though we weren't into jazz as kids, I will never forget the way they sounded playing all together with Stan. I remember one night in particular standing in the hall and we were peeking in at them all playing and i can still hear this amazing sound. Just amazing This room seemed to be lifted off the ground when they were in there.. So full, so rich, I saw him at his very best. God bless him.

This guy is absolutely stunning indeed with an amazing band.

Stan Getz is to the tenor sax what Paul Desmond was to the alto E flat alto sax.

You have to admit Stan is the cool , late nite jazz SAX of choice. If I want o wind down with a malt & cjgar......Stan is the Man ......what a catalogue of music..... and maybe 2-4 albums I don't favour But so many I love .... West Coast Jazz .Cool

I grew up with my late father listening and playing (trying) along with Stan Getz. It's like you're in a different world.

Nice..never heard Stan play such modern stuff.

getz can't res in peace. not when we are here to shake his box and say...play! and could he ever. what a soul and an echo that will reverbrate on forever. try to find it in the now. can't be done. he didn't have to try. it was like breathing for him. it just came out. only once and again mid 20th century.

I've listened to so many tenor players and I always come back to Getz. He's been a pattern player, a fast player, but he's always been creative. Getz makes me feel good: Trane is an exercise player, Getz is an artist.

Stan the man, so many tenor players in my jazz history but Stan is awesome, Stan Getz at the Shrine with Brookmeyer and West Coast Jazz with Conte Candoli and The Dolphin with Lou Levy on piano. I have all his important albums and I saw him in Tokyo, Japan in 1960s, then again in Toronto in the 80s.. never failed to impress me, his ballads during the cool school period and then his work with Diz Gillespie also Oscar Peterson, never would I sell those albums. When I was 16 his Autumn Leaves was constantly on my record player also Hymn to the Orient with talented guitarist Jimmy Raney. Stan is forever in my jazz music!!!

It's Getz, my friend.

Stan Getz, the perfect symbiosis with his Selmer MK VI. Many tried but no sax player ever nailded his tone. Not to say there are no better technically skillded players. Personally I prefer tone and emotion above technique. Stan Getz is my go to easy listening saxophone player.

This was not his last recording! The true last one happened at Cafe Montmartre in Copenhagen during March 6, 7, 8 & 9, 1991, three months before Stan died! Please, no more lies nor liars!!!

My take-away from this video is.....I need to practice more.

The sound on this tape is pretty unprofessional. We deserve more. I have the original soundtrack of this video from a public TV production - far better. Anybody here interested in 'splicing it in?' In fact - this video is ridiculous!! I'll upload my version soon - all sound intact.
