@@mattharper1242 Bruiser Brody. I think he was more wild and harsh than Hansen. Dynamite Kid was another one. They hit hard and they beat the hell out of a lot of people. Dynamite broke mankind’s jaw with that hook clothesline and even Haku had to tell him that if he hit him in the face with that clothesline they were going to fight in the locker room. That’s when they were so tough that they could still sell and progress in the match even though they were legit hurt. None of that Bob Holly “let me beat up a kid who doesn’t know better” or that Kurt Angle “my pride is hurt because I got caught in a kimura so I will break character and wanna fight on tv because the ref had to save me with a 3 count” Bullshit. It was yeah by jaw is hanging by a thread but as long as I can get through the match I’m good, old fashioned red blooded toughness. That’s missing today from not just wrestling but a lot of the world period!

The real Stan Hansen is light years different from that wild character he played in the ring. He's a southern gentleman I real life, while his character in the ring is a beast!

That is what is so striking about that clip. Normally the really good wrestlers are the ones where the character isn't too far removed from their real life personas. In this case Hansen's so far removed. Its even more of a credit to him than he was able to be so convincing as the mad man in that case.
@Junkay2

Bored Now I also liked the way he took the high road in this interview. The interviewer was clearly trying to entice Hansen to say something negative about Hulk Hogan when he asked, "Were you surprised Hogan became successful after you teamed with him in Japan?" But Hansen, to his credit, didn't take the bait. He had nothing but praise for Hogan. That's a testament to his character.

Seriously, watching Stan Hansen matches in Japan from '81-'96 is like wrestling nirvana........To me, it's the best pro wrestling there is...Period.....From his ring entrance/song, to the nonstop aggression, the brutality, the excitement, the reality......One smiles and winces simultaneously throughout EVERY match.....The best in ring performer ever imo......And 180 degrees from the joke of a plastic corporate crapfest that is today's WWE........Thanks so much again Hannibal........I hope you know how awesome of a service you are doing with Stan interviews........SO awesome man.....

The crazy thing is, he was full on, non stop, 100% fo go go. He did not slow down. He did not stop. He kept the pressure on the entire match and could go an hour at this pace. He didn't look it, but his stamina was crazy.

I ONLY saw Stan Hansen live @ MSG once against Gorilla Monsoon. BOTH were BIG men who could move about the Ring. I THINK it was around 1976-77. Stan Hansen was intimidating even without his promos. He sure made me believe that wrestling was real back then. During this interview, it SOUNDS like he regretted going to WCW instead of WWF with VKM. He doesn't bad-mouth Ole Anderson BUT I'm sure he would have had a better and more lucrative run in WWE.

@@chozahfearless7524 The first time I saw Hogan in Japan he surprised me with a lightning-quick leg takedown. The dude was elite technical in Japan. Like night and day. Verne Gagne and Vince McMahon wanted him to wrestle a more limited power style of wrestling in America. In Japan pro wrestling is not as gimmicky and character based but more on the actual performance in the ring.

Stan became my favorite of all-time when I saw him for the first time on ESPN. After winning the title, during an interview, he came out with chew hanging out of his mouth and spewed out "I told you I was gonna take this belt" The way he said it caused me to laugh my ass off. He was such a character and he played it so well.. These interviews are so cool because we get to see the real person. Mr. Hansen is a well-spoken, very respectful and by sharing the part about his daughter telling him it will be okay and that's what he remembered about that big night tells me this: Stan loved his profession but when it came to family - wrestling was not even close.... My last word is: if Stan did not like Japan the way he did and he really lived those fans for some reason - and he was to stay with some outfit for 10 years or so - if he spent the first 3 years being that chew spitting wild ass cowboy out of control and then one night turned to a baby face - he could have been the most successful draw in history with being the Cowboy who saves us all from the Indians (heels) Imagine the Stan Hansen cowboy doll and all the other stuff that would have sold. He could have been larger than life and if you took a vote from kids 5 to 12 back in the 80s decade, they would have chosen a super hero cowboy over super ego Hulk Hogan.
