This is the second in a sequence of 5 videos focusing on standard and non-standard place value of two-digit numbers.
After investigating and explaining the first two-digit number (10) and teen numbers using standard place value ('standard' because the number may be recorded in this way in a place value chart) and non-standard place value ('non-standard' because the number cannot be recorded this way in a place value chart), children begin to investigate and explain the next two-digit numbers - twenties numbers - using standard and non-standard place value.
This concept is fundamental to developing understanding that all numbers - including numbers with decimal fractions - can be seen and explained using both standard and non-standard place value in multiple ways.
This video uses Socratic strategic questioning and accurate mathematical language to allow children to develop their deep understanding of this vital Place Value concept, and their metalanguage and capacity to explain - many 'know' but do not 'know that they know' because they cannot explain.
