Several viewers have asked us how we go about kegging beers, meads, ciders, wines, and other sparkling beverages. Are you wanting a quick equipment walkthrough for a homebrewing keg system for your fermented drinks? Here's our humble ball lock setup. Hope to have a kegerator soon!

Thanks for doing this one. I'm gaining an interest in pressure carbing so this was perfect.

It's amazing to see someone else without a kegerator. I've started kegging this year and due to limited space don't have room for a kegerator set up, even having a big CO2 bottle is a no go. My set up is a corny keg in my cupboard that keeps cool enough for me to drink the beer and CO2 is supplied via a SodaStream CO2 bottle with a SodaStream mini regulator. It's amazing (for me) and I just love being able to keg a 5-gallon brew and then have another brew bottled. :D

Thanks for reminding me to clean my kegs! Got a batch that’ll be ready in a day or 2, now it’s done!

I’ve only been following this channel for a few weeks, but you happened to release this video on the exact same weekend that I’m finishing up a kegerator build. Found everything I needed on Craigslist (4.5 cuft fridge, two corny kegs, CO2 tank, regulator, all the hosing, and a keg tower with two faucets). Combined cost: exactly $200. At that price, I feel like there’s no reason not to keg!

Consider a two regulator setup with a few manifolds to charge multiple kegs. I'm doing a three outlet manifold and a two outlet manifold. With four kegs I can have two on one pressure and two on another or I can have three on one and one on another... this will be handy for force carbonating a new batch. I also have the option to have all four on the same pressure if I set the two regulators to the same pressure. Thanks for the videos!

This is a good idea I hadn’t even considered. Thanks!

My kegging system is a side by side fridge/freezer that holds 4 kegs with the co2 tank and regulator on the outside. I drilled out holes for 4 shanks in the front and 1 on the side for the co2 tubing. I would not trade it for a traditional kegerator because I store yeast samples and bottles on the shelf above the kegs and a ton of hops in the freezer side.

That’s definitely something I hadn’t considered. Interesting idea. I kind of want my kegerator top to be a work surface though. I may be over-thinking it.

Have you looked at all at serving hose length? I know most beer guys care a lot about that but was not sure if you noticed anything about it.

Hi, I'm thinking of starting to keg my mead as well. The sales person was asking me if I want to use co2 or nitrogen. Do you have experience in nitrogen? Which is better for mead and wine?

Hi! I just watched your four part how to brew series and had some questions! 1.If I’m making a mulled mead, should I add my spices during secondary fermentation or after stabilization? 2.What sort of time frame should I be looking at in terms of Primary to Secondary to bottling. How long between each stage generally? 3. After bottling will I need to continue to wait until serving or is the waiting mostly done during primary and secondary? Thanks have a good one!

1. If it were me, definitely in secondary. 2. Generally 1 month primary/ 2-4 months secondary/ 2-4 months to bottling - depending on practices. With good nutrient and fining agents this can be reduced significantly. 3. Generally give it a month after bottling before opening. This avoids most instances of bottle shock. Thanks for watching!

Can you dispense the mead/wine without carbonating?
@BerT12
@BerT12 7 ай бұрын
that would be interesting ;-) I bet the Keg needs a bit of preasure to seal, but if this already leads to carbonation => ?

Excellent! That looks like a HUGE CO2 tank compared to other home kegging setups I've seen. Also appears that once carbonated, your brews stay in your kegs until served! Do you ever tinker with bottling carbonated?
@DointheMost
@DointheMost 4 жыл бұрын
It is the biggest one I could get! We do leave them under gas until served, though a friend is going to lend me a counter pressure filler to toy with bottling off the kegs.

Getting a beer gun is the best investment I made. Found someone online that sold me the beer gun, connectors, and a regulator for $60 cdn. DEFINITELY worth every penny

How long does wines/mead stay fresh in kegs?
@DointheMost
@DointheMost 4 жыл бұрын
Theoretically as long as they would in a bottle if kept under proper CO2, as I understand it.
