Standing Between 2 Passing Trains! Odd Railroad Crossing, CSX & Norfolk Southern DPU Trains In Ohio

Trains Passing Both Sides Of Me At A Cool Railroad Crossing! A Norfolk Southern Train with a DPU working hard passes to the right and a CSX mixed freight train hurries by on the left! This is cool! These trains are near Cincinnati, Ohio in Carlisle, Ohio. Another fast train with a DPU passes me going past the switch for the Dupps Railroad branch line to Germantown. CSX set off a bad order auto rack car on the track that they occasionally use as a siding. I have seen maintenance of way equipment there and the Loram rail grinder. I got lucky to be in the right spot with 2 trains passing. It was a slow morning and I waited close to 3 hours for those trains. I was starting to wonder why there were no trains. Best frequencies to use here are 160.230 for CSX, 160.980 for Norfolk Southern and 452.9375 for EOT. This location is where the CSX Toledo Subdivision and the Norfolk Southern Dayton District come together for a short distance before taking opposite sides of the Great Miami River on the way north to Dayton, Ohio. Filmed January 13, 2022. This was filmed in 4K.

That spur line used to be a mainline for Cincinnati Northern that became part of the Big Four, then New York Central, then Penn Central, then Conrail. It would go all the way to Michigan until most of it was ripped out in the early 80s. The Cincinnati Southern still exists from Cincinnati to Chattanooga. It's the longest freight railroad owned by a city. The mayor appoints the board members and it's leased to Norfolk Southern. It's too bad the city never finished the subway.

3 cool trains today!! Seems we are seeing more box cars in use.....the railroads are moving goods and doing their part. If USDOT could get the ports fixed we might get out of a number of issues. Thanks

I have to say, watching your videos is by far the best there is out there in KZfaq land. They just keep getting better and better. This is a cool little spot, having two crossing with two different rail companies, and you can park right smack dab in the middle. Always enjoy your videos Sir. Just think of being the person in the car and sitting between the two passing trains like this. If you love trains & you're not in a hurry, looking out your windshield at one train 🙂 and also looking in your mirrors at the second train 🤗 But if you're new to the area and if you get caught up between the two trains and if you really don't care for trains... .... Had to chuckle a little bit on THAT one. When that second train showed up, I could just hear the driver in that vehicle saying, "Well...It's official: I ain't goin' anywhere..." LOL!!

@@JawTooth Yup. Saw that as well after the fact. Noticed how there was a gate down "immediately behind them" and how the one which halted their forward progress was "all the way up there". First thought was, "Hmm, THAT's quite the place to stop. WAYYYYYYYYYY back there..." Hehe!

Many mounds in Ohio and W.Va. have been found containing the buried bone remains of 7' and taller humans. Look it up. Nice haircut Jaw Tooth. (Whatever bowl Mrs. Jaw Tooth uses, it's perfect.)

Great video JT and what a neat area where you could set up between the tracks and video both. You know it's bad enough graffiti ends up on the freight cars but to paint the the equipment building too is a little much. But like people say "what can you do about it". Nice video, JT! When I was railfanning a train in Midland, OH on the 23rd, there was tracks like this because of the old B & O station. There was only one train though, of course. Two trains passing at the same time on these sorts of things are awesome.

Its odd being their alone but my guess its just a simple broken train line but then again had the “other” end of the car been observed it may just have a drawbar out, i dont think it would have hurt anything walking and videoing the shop car….cars do “ break down”…on line of road …..a real adventure is when they’re 10-13 thousand feet back in the train and had you been their to catch that set out you probably would have needed two trips to Wendy’s…….😀

There are mounds like that created by Native Americans here on the Oregon Coast. The most prominent one is actually an ancient garbage dump. The coastal natives ate a lot of shellfish and food from the ocean. They put all the shells in a big pile on the edge of the village. The biggest is maybe 3 acres and rises some 40 feet above the beach. Today it's covered in vegetation and is very stable except in a few places where unauthorized trails have been built on it.

I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation, but this CSX with DPU illustrates the fact that there are more cars behind the mid-train DPU than in front.

Depends on the relative weight of parts of the train, and probably things like convenience when they're building the train at the yard. Also, the train may be picking up cars at some intermediate point, or may have set cars off.

With PSR there are often times when two smaller trains are combined to make one big train... it is likely that the DPU seperates to different blocks of cars going to different locations.

How is it that the DPU always sound like it is the hardest working locomotive ❓ Is it because the way the engine noise echoes off the rail cars in front and back of the locomotive ❓🤔

@@icosthop9998 Not sure. It's normally on the same power settings as the head-end power. They sometimes adjust it when there are changing gradients, but I doubt that's happening here.

Very cool and unusual. It reminds me. My dad was holding me in between two temporary tracks with trains running in opposite directions after a major train wreck. Ceylon, Ohio 1956. It's the youngest thing I remember. When the trains passed Mom was smoking mad at him. I didn't understand then but when I got older I did. Your videos sure bring back memories.👍👍👍

There's a three track crossing in Louisville where CSX has one set of tracks while NS has the other two. There is only one set of crossing gates.

Dang JT, you need to go buy a lottery ticket! Lucky enough to have 2 trains go by at same time, then on that second train there were several C&NW cars on it. JMHO on the 'indian mound'...probably just where they pushed all the dirt into one spot to make the rest of the park level; also creates a 'sliding hill' for the little kids during the winter. Ohio is full of those types of mounds, in fact they are all through the Southern and Eastern portion of the United States, many have been levelled due to construction at cetera.
