This years marks 50 years since I stepped foot in South Vietnam. At 70, I still cry for those in my platoon of Marines who were absent at morning muster as we stood, weary from the all night vigil to find a dark location in the jungle to get low enough to bring them home to us, and on to their loved ones who knew nothing of the fury of gunfire that took the lives of men we had breakfast with early in the day. The joys of a USO show the night before and the photos that captured their last moments of happiness that became lost in so many moves in a lifetime. Faces of 19 & 20 year olds who are forever young men that are etched in my mind who should resemble the image I see in my mirror. They never age in the minds of loved ones, girlfriends, fiancees and buddies and those of their unit who pledged their lives to now feel the void in their hearts. We remember them as we see our flag pass by through moist eyes and it causes little children to ask their Mom or Dad why a grown man cries. It is simple. Love of country despite of her flaws and love of comrades who shared the same and cared for the generations of Americans to come who they desired to keep safe from all of the worlds aggressive evils!

Michael Lingle Did I read your post right.., that you did not get to meet your Father? You are a most precious child for both your Mother and Father...., Thank you for sharing... and reminding us all in all of our nations from sunrise to sunrise around this planet!, that we all still owe that debt to Yourself , Your Mother for your loss and the cost in your life’s as well as to all those fathers and children of those young men and women who chose to make the stand🌹 I am always haunted by my Mother telling us complaining kids.. “you don’t even know that you’re alive”... now in my 50’s I finally start to see what she went through.. and our Father used to speak of the allied military and losses, ships gone within minutes, cities in days and weeks.. and he said of the USMarines..., when they sailed into Wellington, in New Zealand darkest days...., that the church bells rang all day... He said that you must understand how desperate things were in Australia and New Zealand.., we thought that we & the Pacific were about to fall... “and the Marines arrived”🌹 You’re a miracle 👍

I truly love this song, and her version was the best. I was one of those who gave some, my friend was a man named James Boyd, Jim was one of those who gave all. There has not been a memorial day since 1968 that I have not thought of Jim, rest in peace my friend.

Discovered this awesome performance last year, and didn't want to let this Veteran's Day pass without sharing it again as l did last year. And also once again salute Christiana Ball for her service and her amazing delivery of this touching tribute to our men and women who have worn the uniform, both past and present.

Thank You for that. BUT Veterans Day is not for the ones KIA. That’s Memorial Day! KIA is a Solider Killed on the Battle Field during a time of War or conflict with America.

This was a phase told to me by my commanding officer many many years ago and I have never forgotten it “We sleep soundly in our beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to do violence on those who would harm us" George Orwell. I am now one of those who sleeps soundly. Freedom is not free, it never was and never will be. Thank you to all of my fellow military brothers and sister. Your sacrifice you make today for me is not lost on me. Thank you so much!!!
