Brilliant, i wish we had more pedagogic instructors like this these days...we have many doctors but only a few pedagogues which have the ability to transfer their knowledge to fellow young doctors in a such a way to make the information comprehensible. Well done!

My mother in law endured a stroke and survived nearly 20 years suffering with a hemiplegic gate. Surprising emotional reaction seeing this displayed after her passing and remembering that as she also had nearly complete aphasia which didn't allow for expression of how things affected her. My mother is encountering cognitive decline (without her primary care Dr concerned enough to conduct or order testing so her family could better see to her needs) and I've noticed her fluidity has been reduced but have no clue as to how to motivate her to develop a routine of physical activity or exercise to improve her stability and decrease risk of falls. Like many, I feel ill equipped to properly care for her and assist her in maintaining her independence and quality of life.

Correction: Trendelenburg gait demonstrates weakness of the gluteus medius on the side opposite of the advancing lower extremity. Hence, the pelvis cannot be maintained in a level position during SLS. The patient leans toward the affected side to compensate for the glute med weakness.

Excellent demonstration. As a diabetes doctor and KZfaq educator, gait examination is an important part of the general examination. Also important to examine them as they walk with the physios as you can miss a golden diagnosis of Parkinsonism.

Thanks for this most informative video. It is helping me understand that the way my husband walks is not normal. My husband was told at the VA that he has myelopathy and spondylosis at the T9-T10 region. He has bladder/bowel issues, no control of his right foot, right leg is weak, he falls frequently and does that stomping walk (shown in the video) at night when he gets out of bed for something. He was told at the VA they could not do anything for him but we're seeking a second opinion outside the VA Health System. Not to knock the VA Health System in any way because they have been very good to my husband.
