Watch a rusty, dirty Stanley Bailey Type 13 Hand Plane (1925-1928) get disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. Taking apart this Stanley Bailey Hand Plane was easy. Many times there is a frozen screw that can slow down a project. This was my first hand plane to restore. I've learned the names of the various parts and now understand their function (in a basic way).
This hand plane was restored for a family friend. I was glad to get a challenging project that included, cast iron, steel, walnut and brass. It is an old tool but not highly collectable. Spending a week with this beautifully built piece of Americana made parting with it very difficult. I hope I can get it back someday. As rough and rusty as it was, the plane still could do its intended job. I’ve watched at least a dozen KZfaq video in preparation for this project. Some were excellent, others, not so much. I hope you’ll see a quality effort in this video. Please give me some feedback.
This restoration started on Monday, September 28 and was completed on Friday, October 2. This restoration did not include flattening of the sole or sharpening of the iron.
All video was captured and edited using an iPhone 8 Plus, an iMac with iMovie and Photoshop.
