Thanks for posting this. You may have seen my wooden version on Bench.Talk.101 Chester. The principle is great, and the metal one has two distinct advantages: you could clamp the middle of a long board (as long as it is narrow enough), and there's little chance of it splitting if you go overboard knocking the wedge in.

Your videos are always enjoyable. You have a great attitude. I see you have a vice right there next to the wedge. The wedge could be screwed to a piece of wood and clamped into the vice so it could be quickly removed. If that wood was only on the side of the wedge than it would still sit flush with the bench top. You may have also just driven up the demand for the Handyman device!

I had thought of a similar approach but if you look at my Emmert vise it is offset from the bench so it would take an L shaped bracket to keep the board over the bench.

Nice video Mr Spier! Interesting alternative to a planing stop for tall thin pieces.

Thank you very much for this video, I have issues with my vice racking in such a way that I have to really pay attention when jointing to ensure my vise is not twisting my board, my vise holds parts well for sawing, but sometimes when jointing longer thin boards I have issues, I think I could add a wooden base to this screw on wedge vise and clamp that into my vise, then I could joint using the table for support, instead of having to really crank my vise tight and twist my board !

I had thought of a similar concept but the board would have to attach on the front edge so it doesn’t raise the vise above the table level.

That's the cat's meow! Do you know if this is being made by any other company?

There were other brands of these and you can often find them on ebay or COHI auctions on the weekends.
