Garstang is an ancient market town and civil parish and was originally recognised as the world’s first Fairtrade town. Garstang is a bustling market town with a combination of Georgian buildings. The town is overlooked by the ruined remains of Greenhalgh Castle, built in 1490 by Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby. Close by you can walk along the wonderful Wyre aqueduct built by John Rennie in 1797, its 110 feet long and it carries the Lancaster Canal over the river Wyre.
