You’re 100% right about a mixing drill. I go the 1/2” cheapo corded spade drill (63112) from Harbor Freight for mixing mortar and concrete. 99.9% of the time it’s sitting on a shelf but well worth the $40 bucks for when I need it.

Another important thing is to drill and fasten some tapcons that protrude beyond the broken surface and below the finished surface so that the concrete has something to grab in the event of shrinkage and frost.

Thanks for the video! Where can I find Part 2? I've got a driveway that is cratered: the concrete on top has popped off in hundreds of little craters that end in the gravel that was used to thicken the concrete. Maybe they used too much gravel? Anyway, I watched this video mostly to learn about the sealer you used and to figure out whether it would work in my situation. My driveway has areas that are cratered and areas that aren't.
@markdoumert4840
@markdoumert4840 3 жыл бұрын
I know Im late but thought Id chime in for the heck of it. A lot of times that is caused by an improper finishing process that leaves the top surface too thick and the aggregate gravel pushed too far down. When the concrete freeze/ thaws or just over time from being exposed to the elements that top finished layer will pop off and expose the aggregate. I think a cement patch like he shows in the video would work great. You could then stain/ coat/ seal over top of it with no issues.

Great video as always, ill have to try that product out some time soon. Most likely next year Broke my hand due to working around a moreoff, more off than on. 2 fingers fractured and broken at base of 3 knuckles sprained wrist pulled tendons(Free Health Care for the Win). Curious do you have any Canadians in your master mind group? Before the break and workers comp i was doing lawncare, retaining walls, deck repair, gutter cleaning/repair fascia, doors/windows install replacement And or clean junk removal etc. on the side. Welding during the day. Since the injury i really have no desire to work for anyone but myself ever again. Reason i ask is because my province has a bunch of landscaping companies that do halfass work do more damage than actual lawncare. Retaining wall buckle and fail more than not, ive installed 12 retaining walls none over 7 ft high yet, but none have failed, first one i installed was 10 years ago still straight as an arrow. I've learned a few tricks from your videos, that i wish i knew before. I have a few life lines to call on certain aspects of landscaping but they are limited as I am more skilled in actual building than they are or hard scaping. I've much enjoy your videos, don't worry about the tool nazi's lol chucking them 3 ft should hurt them lol. Keep doing your thing stanley.

Once the concrete is drying on the tools it means you are too damn slow and your not dunking your tool in water between pours. Always keep a bucket of clean water near you and clean your tools regularly, Troweling is easy with clean tools.

I agree. The repaired cracks are so much more visible. And the color choice is, well, a bit too loud. Now the house and driveway are matching. For those cursing their homeowner association (HOA) this is why you need to have appreciation. Our neighbors had to remove their ugly plastic tile roof because they didn't get permission (not that it would have been approved). Another neighbor decided to paint their house pink. Yes, pink. That was halted and repained a nice dark blue. They also ensure no homes become rental untis. Yards are kept up, sidewalks pressure washed every spring, the entrances, common areas and huge park are kept up weekly, etc, etc... Bless you HOA!!! Bless you.

Sorry, I can't get behind this... There is no way to get a permanent bond between the top coat and the original slab. The bond your searching for is when you re-hydrate the gel sacks of the slab and the top coat. There is no way to get enough gel sacks to bond with the new. That is why most concrete companies suggests a min of 1/2. So that when you have an area that is not bonded the strength due to thickness (of the top coat) will keep the concrete from cracking. The sad part is that homeowners will think this is a legitimate repair only to have to replace everything in the future. I could have injected and lifted this slab in an hour...

Hi Stan, off topic. I'm a new subscribers and loving the content. I would love to have your information on being able to find cheap equipment for running a business. Right now I started a summer business doing Firepits and it blew up to Paver patios/walkways, landings, retaining walls, and some other stuff. Honestly I did not think it would turn out well with demand. I'm still making big rookie mistakes with bidding and employees and job decisions that turn costly. I was hoping for some tips if possible. Would you know where to find cheap larger scale compactor plate machines like 450lb or 1000? I would especially eternally grateful to find a Mini Loader to help excavate these sites rather than renting one and getting gorged. Or Dump trucks too? I see cheap broken down ones for 2000 but everything else is for the rich it seems :( This is actually putting me through college right now surprisingly and I'm open to any pro advice out there. Thanks for your ear! Awesome Vid by the way!
