Star Citizen is currently in Alpha stage of development. This means not all features are impletented yet and there are a few bugs. However this does not make the game any less awesome. Find out more at robertsspaceindustries.com/ My referral code: STAR-LC9S-MFBH

If they do, I can see some manufacturers differentiating with production year. "Nice Cutlass." "Thanks its a 59, classic." "Ew 59? That means no toilet!"

If they give people the option to upgrade for free to the mark 2 versions for those who paid with real money. I have no issue with this.

I think it will happen several more times. First with the Gladiator MkI. The Gladiator has seen very little work since its original release. Its pretty outdated at this point and shares the same legacy maneuvering thruster system the Hornet MkI uses. Which I believe they are trying to phase out while also giving the universe some history and technology evolution while doing it. I'm looking forward to an improved Gladiator and hope to see something happen with this ship soon.

I would hope it gets gold standard for Squadron 42 but I don't think anything like that was mentioned which is sad, I quite like the ship

having "has been" ships I believe adds some depth to the verse. Gives it a sense of history. If we get the ability to have "used" ship lots and player sale mechanics of pledged ships then the ships won't simply vanish. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I can see however how frustrating this whole thing can be and how it can be fomo in action.

would definitely be cool for new players later down the line when they first start out they might be only able to buy a has been second hand ship that due to power creep is past its prime but they can still make use of it in the early game.

I have no doubt there will be ways to get "old" ships from more than just players. This is after all planned to be a full scale MMO, so why not have say a "dungeon" and when you beat the final boss he drops a data pad with coordinates where it's a crashed ship; in the loot pool of crashed ships it could be some of the older "unpurchasable" ships. What can you do with that? Unlike normal salvage, these would be high value wrecks that players could tow/haul to their hanger and store, with an "investment" of parts and "paperwork" you could register the ship as your own and keep it, insure it, rebuild and paint it to your liking; in other words, an alternate way to get a ship that isn't just to spend uec at a terminal; though it would still be price-locked to a degree via "paperwork" and "parts" so you can't just get a free flight ready F7A MkI from a mission. This is just an example of one way getting old ships could be handled. Other more direct options include; locking some older ships behind a faction rep who might sell them. locking them to specific star systems that'd roughly match where they'd be. stealing them from NPC's and using faction rep to "forge paperwork" to get the ship. (Also, the F7 MkI likely is not the last ship that will get this treatment, I've heard the Aurora will likely get a from-scratch rebuild for a "new model year" and the old one will be retired; it'll still, eventually, get a gold standard pass, but it'll be a "classic" ship that won't be as easily purchased as the newer model; obviously if you own it in your pledges you'd retain easy access to it; my original pledge contains an Aurora, and SQ42, and I wasn't about to waste money on a CCU for 3mo insurance, so, if they do that, I have a classic Aurora.)

@@lunasakara7306 I just feel lets get some core systems down first than we add this kind of stuff after launch.

This should have more often. Many ships should eventually be pulled from markwt once the game goes live. The only ships that should be available for purchase at launch are starter

It will be dependant on the marketing numbers on whether or not this mk1 to mk2 switch will happen to other ships. Gladius, Arrow, Bucc. As for over burdened teams on ship development, well how many surprise ships were released as compared to ships in the pipeline this past event? How long were the ones in the pipeline there? Considerations for the evaluation of if it is an overburdened or just scattered between to many projects at once.

I am not sure we all assumed they'd coexist, I did not. To me it didn't seem like a great decision to keep both around for lore or financial reasons. It's not like car manufacturers keep making and selling older models in the same series. Of course, there's not (currently) a used starship market in-game, and the out of game is not officially sanctioned. They may do this for other ships, and I think that's okay. It creates a richer universe, and assuming that they will or may introduce an in-game used market, and the continuation of the grey market, or perhaps facilitating an officially sanctioned one out-of-game second hand market, this could work out well. By richer universe I am thinking that it'd be weird if all ships just remained statically the same over time. Artificial scarcity is also a strategy to create more diversity, which may drive funding (for now), and open for new and older players feeling a bit more special and unique, which is always good too. Of course, there's the fomo you mention, and that's a consequence that bites in many directions and not all good for CIG, no. But all in all, I think it's cool move, to create a more lived in universe, with a history that players have partaken in, even before the official release. But as always, their timing and communication strategy leave a lot to be desired.

Just imagine for once, 1 server can handle arround 100 people.... how many servers would they need for all players to be able to play? +Their practices really suck ass, freeflight is over and suddenly every server runs like crap. 0 communication on CIGs side. It smells fishy out here....

Certain ships/vehicles/items should only be obtainable once or nearly impossible to obtain in general. This is video game 101. If everyone can easily obtain everything in the game there will NEVER be any sense of accomplishment or rarity.

I feel like the only one who really likes this. At least in the sense that we could find exceedingly rare ships in the verse. In different situations. Doesnt seem real enough to have cig make old dead ships fresh.

People overracting here. They already say we can manufacture ships ourselfs. So yeah we can create those old ships without getting in the way of the dealers. Also the FOMO is a BS reason. they had like more than a decade time to get the F7C series. anyways ships who will be not sold ingame will be eventuntually be sold by us and not by the dealers ingame. Wich is imo awesome.

I have no issue with the mk1 becoming a legacy collectors item ship. It was never a favourite for me so won’t be missed. The F7A on the other hand, needs to be accessible via in game earnable routes as a badge of honour, not just this one odd Overdrive event. Otherwise it punishes new players later.

No, I disagree. If you missed out you missed out. Players enjoy having loot/mounts/vehicles etc that other players don’t have. It provides a sense of accomplishment and a sense of being a “veteran.” It also adds a sensation of rarity to said item. Just look at Fortnite, there are skins in that game that are never going to be obtainable again. Take your care bear game mindset and go play palworld. People like you bitching about shit like this will ruin this game. Some ships need to be nearly impossible to obtain. Have fun with your furries!

Removal of Mk1 from RSI website still creates artificial scaresity. Now, if you want to buy Hornet, you need to spend more. That's nothing more than cash grab from CIG.

Cig loves to make more work for no reason. Why not just update the ship to current standards rather than this dance of mk1 and 2. We have so many things that need to be in the game for 4.0 why add more workload on yourself. Also, it confuses the player base. What happens if the mk1 ship is the "meta" dogfighter that no one can buy in-game? I do not like this. That being said the idea of used ships is great one but lets launch 1.0 and get some star systems before we try to add something like that into the game. I just want cig to stop adding more ships and get some core features down. This cargo rework will overall the haul that sever meshing should be all they are working on.
