I need to bring this up because it's important; The Zeus is following a new method of balance. CIG mentioned this in a comment on Spectrum. The reason the Zeus seems so strong is because it's balanced for the NEW standard. This means that all OLDER ships will be receiving this new balance pass.

That's a great point and maybe when it's all said and done, 3/4 shields will be common for that size ship but we'll have to wait and see.

Interesting, and heartening. While the new ship is exciting, it IS more powerful, not just in any one way, but in the ways it is strong work together. It is just really well designed. It covers common use cases. The 4 shields, lower turret, superior sensors + smallish, low profile design, huge fuel tanks, oversized quantum drive, redundant systems, and a cargo bay for a decent sized vehicle or a good chunk of loot would make it... potentially the fastest, best sig to radar, ultra longestest distance ship in the game? And for all that, it's a flexible, Cutty-ish 1 to 3 person, live-aboardable, "do a little of everything," type ship, with some capabilities in excess of much larger ones. "Must have" ships suck. I'm getting one, but they suck. 😅

Yeah but it'll take a fuck ton of the time before they actually update the old ships, don't forget that this a lot of work and they'll prioritize something else so by the time they actually rework this well there might be another "new standard"

Keep in mind the 400i has those horrible pillars in the cargo hold which severely limits what you can do with it. The elevator is also garbo. limits what you can fit. The ramp? As long as it fits, it ships. With the new system? it will be way faster and easier to work on the Zeus due to the need to go between floors in the 400i. It seems to be more of a tradeoff for each of the features here. A size 3 component is 4x size 2 if I remember correctly. But the balance pass could change the 400i to bring the radars in line with each-other. Honestly it just comes down to preference. The Zeus reminds me of the cuttlass a little. I personally got an MR because I could see me and my friends messing around with it and having a lot of fun.

Assuming the Zeus MkII has the Mantis-style interior, it will definitely will beat out the DUR for me (which it reminds me more of), and I’ve always felt RSI is a really underrated manufacturer. If Origin is the preppy socialite, and Drake is the counterculture punk rocker/metalhead, RSI is the well-respected professor.

The 400i has 3x S2 Radar, which means when scanning becomes more focused, the 400i may not have a better range than 1 S2 Radar, but it *will* be able to have 3 totally different kinds of scanners on board, potentially allowing it to scan for a wider variety of things at once, or maybe it a wider variety of ways. On the other hand, it looks like the Mkii has the scanner, fuel tank, and quantum drive of a ship like the Carrack or Starfarer, packed into a ship smaller than the Spirit C1. "See far, go far, go fast" is a mean pancake when you pack all that behind 4 shields.

The deciding factor for me will probably be the handling. I know they've said the Zeus will not be as quick or maneuverable as the Spirit, but if it's more maneuverable than the 400i I will probably go with that.

Another factor, that could come in play later, is damages and repair: I'm planning to get rid of my 600i because it will become completely un-soloable, as an eventual rework would call for at least 4 crew members, just to keep the ship going. I guess it wont be much less demanding then a Carrak, once the rework is done, Both the Zeus ES and the 400i (which I upgraded) could be more solo friendly, but I'd bet the more cramped accommodations on the Zeus could become an advantage, the less crew you plan to use. I still think the idea of a separate X1 bay is great and let's not forget there is plenty of space around the 400i elevator to move stuff and keep the elevator itself available for a ground vehicle. Finally the docking port on the 400i comes handy, with a proper armoury room near it.

I see this as a huge compliment to the Zeus. The Zeus is a medium S3 class vessel vs a class S4. Ive never been a Origin fan so the decision was easy for me. The Zeus is extremely efficient in the space it uses, while being smaller and punching above its weight.

Great comparison video. The new Zeus has much to like, and will be an excellent daily driver for many who gravitate to RSI's tradition of practical, reliable engineering and striking design language. For my AUECs, the 400i is still the clear choice. Origin combines refinement with well thought out functionality, and I just love the 20 and 21st century Nautical lines reflected in her cleaving bow & pilothouse style cockpit. The aft galley, sitting area and stellar cartography table with that luxurious view is a favorite, as are the passerelle style boarding steps that extend beneath the bow. The hoverbike lazarette in the bow is a charming novelty, but I do still wish I could fit a Roc mining vehicle in the aft cargo hold. Both vessels hit the sweet spot with regard to size - neither lady being slender, they'll present close quarters challenges to helmsmanship that will be gratifying to overcome, yet still small and fast enough to be excellent choices as blockade/ data runners when those gameplay loops are introduced.

I feel like this is something you neglected to mention that will have a huge effect on gameplay going forward, the 400i is a large ship, this means it cant go through medium or small sized Jump Points, leading to longer routes through star systems to get to your destination, compared to the Zeus MkII which is a medium sized ship, Which means it will have much shorter travel times in interstellar expeditions.

That’s a good point, I think I read another comment mentioning it as well. Something to consider for sure. I’m curious though if there will be non official large jump points that we can find and use since the Carrack has that ability. i don’t know if CIG has mentioned anything on that recently.

This was a hard choice for me... save some money, an "almost" comp to the 400i, and modern RSI looks. But the dedicated X1 and size 3 shield sealed the deal. Not to say I won't ever change my mind as SC continues to become more feature rich, the fleet keeps fluctuating.

My issue is once you put a vehicle in the Zeus ER you have no cargo. The 400i has 48 CU and a Cylone barely fits. A Mule is too tall I believe so that leaves an STV which does fit nicely and leaves some cargo space....then you also have a bike garage on the 400i. So could skip a 'car'. The Zeus ER looks great apart from it's cargo of 32 SCU I suspect the option is going to be ground vehicle OR cargo.
@jde-jj1lu
@jde-jj1lu 7 ай бұрын
Well with many ships they often increase in size from concept to accommodate basic things like this. I personally think it might get a bit larger. I'm sure you could fit some cargo it it with vehicle, and for an expedition you're still going to fit all the food/supplies you could need within the interior storage, and stack those small scu boxes everywhere, akin to a german u-boat in ww2 when it's fresh out leaving on a new patrol with food everywhere. I love the 400, I just don't think it's going to give me a higher chance of making actual discoveries than the zeus ES. I'm pretty sure it also has a larger volume of Qauntum fuel so theres another reason why you're more likely to make those discoveries. It's a hard matchup, and the 400i still does a lot of things better - it's components can probably expect a longer life with that climate controlled location. I'd def pick the 400i if i my plan was to just go somewhere and enjoy a long trip enjoying views. But go with the zeus if you're looking to get your name down in the sc hstory books and be the first person to step foot on that planet.@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418

Has 2 floors, garage for bike, bespoke escape pods, 2 whole turrets with deep capacitors and WINDOWS (j/k on the last part). But seriously. The 400i appears to be a much nicer version of the Zeus. Hopefully, the price of the Zeus should reflect that. As it sits, the 400i is the fastest single Size 3 shield ship in the game. By a decent margin, no less.

I have a large fleet of ships, this video is exactly the situation I have been considering and leaning towards both. I own both ships now. Originally had the Freelancer Dur due to the unique size for the largest ship to fit in the smallest worm hole. The 400i is a very comfortable ship. Awesome captain quarters and lots of areas for décor items which are not available in most ships. All of the components for the 400i are all housed in the "Beer Cave". I also really love the the whole layout of the ship also with the halo table, which we saw a brief concept on another ship in the Citizen Con videos. As per the RSI website, "To explore the stars is a most noble endeavor, and Origin Jumpworks has risen to the occasion in crafting the 400i, the ultimate high-performance pathfinder.". For myself, I will leave a Zeus in the buy back and hang onto the 400i as the daily driver and small jump point explorer. The only draw back is the limited amount of space for cargo. I would love to see a cargo grid layout around the vehicle bay in the 400i. I just makes sense. Great video, thank you.

Others have addressed this but the zeus is a freelancer competitor. That you felt it was good enough to compete with the 400i is a huge reason to buy it. @sorecgaming I honestly think this ship is the first actual cutty killer. Everything else has been too compromised in some way to reach the balance. This ship does it by being a bit fatter but not too much. And I suspect at least on release not use too much more fuel. As you note, an important consideration with pyro. The 400 sits in a odd space but it is far more like the constellation than the medium ships it sits above. Personally I hate origin style on the bigger ships, but I know many love them. I think the 400 is more like a tourer than a pure exploration ship. Like the 890 it's about experience and enjoying the trip as much as the destination. Personally I just want something more "blue collar" a work horse if you will.

@@michaelmichaelagnew8503I think we are discussing two different mechanics. CIG has repeatedly said the freelancer max is the largest ship that will be able to use small jump points. In the Zeus Q&A, CIG confirmed that the Zeus will also be able to use the smallest jump points. This mechanic is still under development and could certainly change. However, with our current understanding of jump points there can be little doubt that the 400i will not be able to use the smallest jump points as it is significantly longer and heavier than the largest confirmed ships able to use them. This may allow smaller ships to utilize the widest variety of travel routes making their journeys shorter and/or safer than the paths available to larger ships.

I have both ships. I think the 400i will still be my preferred solo ship where I need speed and durability to get me out of complicated scenarios where I can't stand and fight as one person. Also the luxury aspect of it makes me treat it more like my personal home away from home (when I'm not flying my Carrack). I have the Zeus-MR, the bounty hunter variant with quantum interdiction. That ship is the one I'd prefer to use when I have a small group of friends playing with me. It's more accessible by more players, the turret placement is better for general combat (whereas the 400i has their turrets placed to the rear for fending off pursuers), and the interdiction adds a layer of gameplay with friends that the 400i doesn't necessarily excel in. If I have more than two friends with me, I'll then just call up my Carrack for larger multi-crew functions.

The Zeus offers a lot at a compelling price point, but the 400i providing more shields, armor, and firepower all-in-one for a bit more is a worthwhile tradeoff. You would have to handpick between the three current Zeus variants to maximize any one of those aspects (losing out on the others). There will likely be a slight penalty on the 400i in that it cannot squeeze through some of the Zeus' smaller jump points, but as a more diversified option, it's likely the one you'd want as a 'do everything' ship.

RSI Zeus MKII is a médium ship. 400i is a Large ship. Perhaps there will be a significant difference in maneuverability between the two (and/or in mass) ? Good maneuverability and excellent shield regeneration provide great endurance in large-scale battles. More than an L-sized shield, but less in duels (vs Corsair for exemple). A single well-armed 2S3 turret instead of two 2S2 turrets frees up a crew member to repair the ship without losing firepower. its turret is useful for excellent firepower when flying over an area. This makes for a well-balanced ship. Even though having +1 beds would have been practical to accommodate at firefighter-medic while others are busy piloting, shooting, or repairing. But perhaps modules will allow this in the future. +3 bed for 2 scoots and 1 firefighter-medic-scientific.

I have a 400i through CCUs, but may use it for further upgrades if the Zeus ES turns out to be as good for what I will do with it. But I will buying a Zeus ES now with melt currency and melt it so I can keep it in my buy back log at the current price. Something I did with the Hull C at $250 and that ship has increased to $500. There is so much time between now and when this game goes to "release" and we might have to lock in our purchases, that I'm sure new ships will give me new choices to make, but keeping the option of ships in the buy back inventory in addition to various CCUs is how I treat the Zeus and other ships. I'm a little late for this video, but here is my take. The drake cutter scout is on the new metrics and is confirmed to have a size 2 radar. That same Q&A verified that the terrapin indeed has the same radar as the cutter scout. That announcement has effectively rendered the stats page for the terrapin obsolete, which said it had two size one radars. Therefore, the 400i radar must be size 3 or greater when we take into consideration the new metrics of the Zeus Mk II ES. Especially when its been declared as the competitor to two larger exploration ships in its own Q&A, and the size 2 scanners being associated with single seat ships. We can conclude that it cannot have a radar greater than that of the corsair or aquila. This is further supported by mining ship components and how they balanced the size of those against total crew requirement.

I dont think the 400i is going to have a particularly impressive radar. The type of radar is also important to remember. My understanding is the type of scanner on the terrapin & scout are kitted out to located ships and such, not spacial anomalies, planetary/organic objects and such. The real explorers with real explorer capabilities are labelled 'expedition'. One's labelled touring are often not as good as finding things, they're more made to explore things already found in comfort or survey. If you think the 400i is going to have scanners on par with the zeus ES i think you will be disappointed.

I own a 400i but for me, I would always prefer a ramp to an elevator. You cannot get a ROC into a 400i because there is not enough clearance while the Zeus could have the headroom to do it. Something else to consider while looking at access is that the 400i passenger ramp and elevator are both so slow that it is faster to get aboard and take-off in an MSR with its many doors than by using either entrance on the 400i. Also, while considering that the 400i has an extra turret you should also consider that one of those is rear facing only. Personally I don't think the X1 is going to be much use for exploration as it is open to the elements so you would probably have to bring a Mule anyway and the Zeus will hold a Rover which is much better. What the 400i does have is the speed to avoid combat. We don't know how fast the Zeus will be but I don't think it will be as fast as the 400i.
@sorecgaming
@sorecgaming 8 ай бұрын
A lot of fair points. I too wish the ROC would fit in the 400i and prefer ramp over elevator. Since the 400i has two rear face remote turrets, I assume these can be AI blades in the future making more worthy of a solo ship. The rover & X1 cons are valid points but I’m ok with that sacrifice.
@michaelmichaelagnew8503

I find using the entrance to the 400i to be very fast compared to the MSR (which uses an elevator just like the 400i though not as efficient). I think the only problem is the elevator issue where it malfunctions. But it goes down instantly and goes up instantly so it's very fast. You also have half the doors to open up in the 400i when getting to the cockpit which is only 2 compared to the MSR's 4 (Might be 3 but it's been a while since I used it.) I also can't stand trying to land the MSR in Third person cause those engines are so blinding that I can't see much at night. There are allot of other things I can point out but I'm not going to bother. The 400i is also faster than the MSR. In fact the 400i is almost as fast as small fighters except in maneuverability.

6:30 I'm not sure if I would consider the more turrets that valueable on the 400i, they are both placed in the back and have very limited firing arcs only covering the rear essentially, whereas the one under the zeus ES can cover half a sphere due to it being under the ship and the ship being kinda flat, so it's a lot more likely to have targets to engage resulting in more uptime. I also like both ships, but I ended up upgrading my 400i to 600i and went with the zeus MR since I didn't have an emp / quantum dampener / prisoner pod ship yet.
@sorecgaming
@sorecgaming 8 ай бұрын
Fair point. I wouldn't want to really go on the offense with the 400i or ES unless necessary, but in that scenario the turrets give you a little bit more insurance in my opinion, having top and bottom rear coverage as you try to get away. Fun discussion though.

@@sorecgaming hmm some of the "exploration" ships aren't that bad tho, 600i is technically exploration, but is one of the best mission runners atm, corsair also technically exploration, same thing, great for combat, even the exploration constellation is still great for combat. I'd very much still consider the 400i for combat thanks to it's huge shield capacity.

@@XeonzsI think with master modes incoming the 400i might get popular as a running away ship just due to its speed. The Zeus is apparently not that fast or manouverable which would explain the uppoed shields on the ER and apparently additional armour on the MR.
@Xeonzs
@Xeonzs 7 ай бұрын
@@eagle_rb_mmoomin_418 if running away then I guess the backwards facing turrets have a bit higher value that my original perspective. However all 3 currently playable QT dampening ships have both a higher SCM and max speed than the 400i and these are the kind of ships I'd expect to be pirating, so their prey can't get away. At that point it becomes an issue of having the crew to man those turrets, which if you're running away probably aren't. At that point you're better off in an Andromeda, same shield, double the cargo, double the overall ship health, more than double the pilot firepower. It does have 40% less QT fuel and 20% less turret DPS, but it also costs 10 dollars less or 3 million less in-game. (This is all comparing stock loadouts) I really like the 400i when I first started out and buying ships, but as time went on I felt like it didn't provide good value for the cost, the one thing it offered was it's looks which I personally think are superb, but it's the same reason I melted my odyssey, having that much money in a ship just cause it looks cool but I'll never use is just a waste, at least for me.

UPDATE: imagine the Zeus will hold a NURSA, knowing the 400i cannot... Would you still go roaming the Verse in a 400i knowing any accident would ruin your progress while a Zeus ES would always bring you back, adding a useful ground vehicle (environment sealed and armed) as a bonus?

If the URSA fits, you have a point. I suspect the biggest ground vehicle that will fit a Zeus is a cyclone. In theory, couldn't you manually move additional X1s off of the cargo lift, but into the area immediately off of the cargo lift? I seem to recall that there are 4 "pillars" inside of the ship next to the lift, with some component access or such along the walls. The X1 may be thin enough to "just" fit in there and therefore not take up extra space from the cargo? Hm. I don't own the ship, so I can't easily check and this is based on memory from exploring the ship awhile back.

I own both and the only thing the MSR is better at is that it can fit almost any small vehicle in it while the 400i is limited to the Drake Mule which is kind of Ironic (Its enclosed and can carry cargo) and the X1. Outside of that the 400i is better than the MSR in every way. It's super-fast and pretty agile for its size and it can hang with most fighters when it comes to speed, but not maneuverability of course. Better defenses and much easier to get into. Has allot of redundant systems in it which will be important in places like pyro. Having 3 power plants and 3 coolers will make a big difference when one goes out or gets knocked out by pirates or from natural phenomenon's like what goes on in pyro. Don't forget its two turrets in the back can be turned into point defense systems once we are able to put computers in them. It's my daily driver and I use it for most missions unless I need something smaller or something that packs more of a punch. Tried to like the MSR but couldn't. It's the poor man's ship compared to the 400i, and almost useless for now unless you really need to carry a few small ground vehicles which the 400i can carry two anyways. You just have to be more choosy.
