In todays video we take look the the Expanse. The Expanse is a single-seat refinery ship manufactured by MISC. It is designed to process front-line raw ore and then either transfer to a dedicated cargo ship or sell the refined ore itself. Ideal in combination with mining vehicles such as the Prospector and Mole/or cargo ships.The Expanse shines as a critical part of an organized mining team. This ship will offer numerous advantages to any and all players that enjoy the Mining side of gameplay that Star Citizen has to offer.

Between mining ships, the Expanse and the Gemini, we will be able to player-run all refueling.

I am not much pr a prospector kinda guy. But.... as a solo player do you think prospector ppl would work in tandem with on the expanse? Like I get a percentage pf the profits anf they can keep going as a I refine and sell their product. Then come back wash repeat

I like this ship because it represents progress, i dont got it in my fleet but maybe down the line. Always good to see one of your reviews and as soon as i can i look up the discord but im drowning in work and havent played sc for a while. Cheerio o7

Any news on when to exspect the Expanse ingame? Its been over 1,5 years now since they anounced it.

I would not be surprised if we have to wait for an additional 1.5 years, There is several systems they will need to roll out and have working before this ship could be ran.

I have a feeling that the RSI Arrastra is going to be sold as concept during IAE this year, and I believe it was one of the ships they revealed that was slated to be released within 12 months. If they intend to have a multicrew refiner come out, they will almost certainly produce the single seater at the same time. We are probably getting engineering first, but I think refinery gameplay may beat out passenger transport for the next T0 feature.

Nice video... the bigger refinery ship is the RSI galaxy with the refinery module...bigger than that..who knows!

Yes that's true the galaxy! I was thinking more sort of purpose built though as opposed to a variant. But the galaxy would be perfect ! Good shout and thanks for reminding me!!

@Spaceman-PIN no problem... I do love the expanse... my only issue is the QT fuel range...however... I guess it could travel on a liberator for deep space mining!!!

@@thegamingtribunalthat would be nice, but the expanse is (at the moment) concepted to be medium size and the liberator has two pads for small ships and 1 pad for a snub. It's hard to say if you'll be allowed to quantum or do stuff long term if the ship is unable to land/dock properly. Hopefully they will let us carry a single medium in place of the two small ships on the upper deck. As a soon to be liberator owner, I would like that very much!

So the Expanse would be fantastic for the solo operated prospector, with a refining ship working in the background as you mine. Yet the problem of locating said ship when you leave it still remains. Unless you can place a beacon down to re-locate your ship; you either lose it, or place it somewhere relatively obvious where anyone can find it, attack, pirate or destroy it. At that point we've gotten nowhere with it, and are just as far as when we started. SC needs to sort out basic navigation before anything else. A major problem is just that; unless you can freely set quantum markers and permanent waypoints for yourself, you will never be able to have true freedom with a ship like this. You won't be able to travel to a location, set a marker and be able to revisit that location again in the future like the Aaron Halo for example. You have to meticulously retrace your steps, or follow a set of instructions to reach a common, already discovered location. Truly solo-operating the Expanse and Prospector at the same time is not feasible in the ideal way with how the game currently runs, and you sacrifice some of the safety the Expanse offers by having to place it in common locations that anyone can stumble upon in the 'verse. That's also not to mention the logistics of operating two ships at once. When you plant your ship somewhere, you have to respawn, spawn your Prospector and do the travel all over again. That's not so much a problem if you operate with two people, but the second person is just useless in the Expanse and doing nothing by himself while he waits for you to finish mining so he can finally receive the materials. They might as well be playing a different game while they wait. Conceptually the Expanse is wonderful. Hopefully they fix at least the main issue I've outlined here before they bring it in, as that will fix the secondary problem I brought up near the end of this comment, and you can even bring in a second prospector when you two-man the Expanse.

What you say is very true, in my mind I was thinking maybe taking the expanse out solo as a refiner for hire, I'm sure solo prospectors would appreciate it. I don't think I personally would run two ships solo, well not until there are ways to do so safely. I think 3 players who enjoy mining will certainly be the winners from this ship.

in the future maybe lets hope you can have an NPC to fly as your wingman. Or in other scenario you can have 2 pcs with a secondary account so you have your marker, i know, thats a lot, another account, another computer, space to run both etc. SC still needs a lot of machanics to work properly... and in the end is a multiplayer game, they will end up forcing us to team up for a lot of things.

@@Spaceman-PIN That's a very valid way of doing it, and honestly there isn't really a wrong way of doing it. This was just my take on its use and it certainly has flaws with my intended use. A refinery ship for hire does seem a little time consuming and slow, and I don't really know how the logistics of that would work long-term seeing as refining jobs can take hours or even a full day. So unless it's an organization, I'm not sure it would be feasible to hire a refinery ship and trust them not to rush off with your cargo. I like your thinking though.

@exnems well I believe what CIG said, was that the refining process would be significantly faster than a legrange point. So, hopefully, that becomes a reality. But as you said there is no right or wrong we won't know until we have it I guess ha ha .

@@Spaceman-PIN Ah, the speed is something I wasn't aware of. I have to assume it's cause the ship isn't as overburdened with orders to do that makes it faster. Frankly, that makes a lot of sense. I haven't been too up to date on CIGs promises lately so that was ignorance on my part. The video was informative, thanks.

I don’t see a use for this ship. How do you get the raw materials from your prospector into the ship? Via tractor beam? Which also means, being a solo ship, you will have to juggle 2 ships at the same time. Much easier,faster to travel to refinery and get your raw materials processed there. Will need more info, but at this stage, thus ship is pointless. Perhaps if you team up, one player does mining, the other does refining, you will still need a cargo ship to transfer refined ores to TDD’s for sale.

It needs to be a team effort for sure. The expanse has a tractor beam so prospectors and moles can dump ore bags for pickup. You really need 3 people minimum, someone to tractor in refined ore for transport as well. Connie Taurus or Caterpillar would work well for this. The person doing transport can hopefully bring spare ore bags in the future if that becomes a thing so they can reload the mining ships/expanse with new bags/containers. In my group of friends, I have a Galaxy and offered to be the refinery guy of the group. Plus, Incan hopefully use the extra 64 scu in the shuttle bay for spare bags/containers/parts and carry an mpuv or something to help with the operation.
