I had a friend let me play on his account for a bit and the game is honestly an impressive technological feat. The seamlessness of everything is crazy in comparison to what we have in other games. One of the funniest moments was as we were warping to a planet, he opened the bay of the ship to show the view and accidently fell out. I had never piloted a ship before and he was trying to talk me through how to come back and pick him up as he was just floating in space, slowly losing oxygen. And I laughed my ass off when I found out you can just facetime your friends in the game, anywhere anytime. They just pop up on a little side UI and you can see them as if they were holding up a phone lmao

You can pledge a big ship, but it's not going to stop someone from ramming you and instantly destroying it, or disabling you and salvaging your ship for money. The shenanigans you can do in sc is just as crazy. Then spend the money to skip the grind and play simi casually.

About 8-10 years ago, I hung out at the Star Citizen booth at Gamescom. It was the year before they had a big fancy Intel-sponsored booth. The people camping out at that booth were mostly retired guys. Some came from America for Gamescom (Germany), so you already know they have money to spend. These guys had a whole guild set up, with a website, Teamspeak, ranks and rules - ten years ago, before the MMO alpha even launched. These guys were planning out guild budgets to purchase the large-scale multi-crew ships for their in-game fleet. And just like that, rich old money flows back into the economy.

People don't understand that Star Citizen is not just a game. The developers don't care if you buy it or not; they made this simulation for fun and exploration.

Veteran guys is fundamentally wrong, in order to make 30mil in 4 days by doing Salvaging and Cargo you need two very expensive ships to start (the Reclaimer, over 500 USD, and the C2 (over 400 USD). in addition to that you are always in risk of getting pirated (watch summit SC streams for piracy). if you want to make 30mil (in game credits) from a 45$ US account it will take you about a month or more, and forget about it if you play solo.

Drop $48k and realize you can't finish a simple bunker mission because of bugs that have been around for over a decade lol

I'm an active player in Star Citizen who have spent over 1k (over the course of 13 years following the project). I think there's some clarifications that must be noted as there are a few nuances that weren't addressed during Asmongold's interview with the first Concierge backer that may shed some new light on the nature of the expensive packages. I'll address them in order: - There is no "DLC". Every ship in any package can be obtained in game and no particular part of the game or universe is locked out to the normal backer (back then we had a pledge that gave us both Squadron 42 and Star Citizen for $25). Those of us who have that pack have been able to hop into the Star Citizen since Alpha 1.0 in 2014 (and can continue to do so without spending an extra dime). - It should be noted that any money you've put into the game can be turned back into Store Credits to subsidize a different package. - 11:50 - "Upgrading" the package is where you replace the ship in the pack but keep the perks of the pack. You pay the difference between the two ships. This is a process known to most backers as CCU (Cross Chassis Upgrade) chaining. - 13:18 - "Pledging" is an old term for buying the ship packs, as CIG wanted to make it clear that you weren't buying ships, but rather donating to the project. - 13:30 - Free Fly events happen around 2-3 times a year. Anyone can make an account and play in the Persistent Universe during this time. - 15:50 - True - the backers themselves asked to extend the project in order to make the game as detailed as possible, for better or for worse. - 16:25 - The Star Citizen "Gray" market is where players utilize a 3rd party website to buy/sell pledges (receipt). The owner of the pledge then goes into their "Hangar" page on Star Citizen's official site and gifts the pledge to the buyer. Because the price of pledges usually go up over the years, there are a number of people who play this system practically as speculative investment. - 17:30 - Yes, people will buy low price vehicles with "Life Time Insurance" and use that package to upgrade into ships they actually want. Keep in mind that as the old package value goes up (because of the ship value), you may actually end up with a massive discount buying into another one into the future. ie. If I have a ship that was worth $250 8 years ago, but over the years it is now worth $750, using this pack to upgrade into another ship that's worth $800 means I'm paying $50 for it ($300 in total). - 19:00 - I have an Org mate who indeed got one of these "limited" ships. Can confirm they sell out within 2 minutes. - 19:30 - Buying "ships that doesn't exist" has been part of Star Citizen since the beginning - they are called "Concept sales". CIG gives you loaner ships in the meantime while you wait for the concept ship to be built out. - 21:00 - You reach "Concierge" status by pledging a total of $1000. It's an automatic process the moment you hit 1k. - 21:45 - I was one of those "Evocati" members back then before I was Concierge. You get there by submitting a lot of good bug reports in the Issues Council. Only recently did they give certain levels of Concierge members faster access to the PTU. - 23:35 - You can play the game with a starter package and nothing else. I regularly destroy people's $200-300 ships with a starter ship. Star Citizen emphasizes your skill as a pilot as opposed to the ship you're flying. As mentioned above, every ship that can be bought with pledges is obtainable in game. Additionally, there's a number of people in game who don't care about space and does ground fight content exclusively too. - 26:00 - To my knowledge, CIG wants to limit how many players actually have capital ships, which is why they "sell out" of pledges of capital ships. - 26:34 - I've had thousands of hours of fun with my friends in this "test" game, so I suppose I got my money's worth so far. /shrug Final thought that wasn't mentioned in the interview - It should be noted that many of the Concierge packs total cost is less than the individual ships bought put together. Because you are allowed to "Melt" the previous packages you bought for store credits, most Concierge members look at these packs as discounts for previous ones they already own (and with better perks than the existing ones in their old packs). Basically, the mentality is that "If I've already spent 1k into the game, I may as well just melt all my old ships and get this new pack for free, and then use the rest of my store credits to buy something else". That said, it should be noted that the CCU system is stupidly complex with all sorts of caveats - long time SC backers practically see this system as a game in of itself. (Edited as I'm watching and writing this at the same time)

18:00 you can still get bikes with LTI if someone buys a game packages using your refferal code. Both of you get for « free » one LTI bike or ship with a base upgrade value of 20-40$. But u cant sell or melt them.

so let me clarify some things the second guy said. yes you can get all the ships relativly easy in game for ingame credits. the caviate is that while the game is in its alpha (which it has been for years now) you loose access to all your ships and credits whenever they do a big server reset which happens about once a year, you will also loose access to everything you have when the game officially goes live. the people who buy the ship packs get access to it all for life but if their insurance runs out they will have the same penalty as f2p players in order to redeem their ship. its also not clear how the ships will be priced in game when the game is finished nor is it clear how they will handle insurance for your ships since that system has not been implemented yet. right now the ships are pretty cheap and every one has free insurance on all ships but that is because the game is still in its alpha. for all we know it could take multiple years of grinding just to get one of the bigger ships when the game goes live and then you could loose that ship forever if it gets destroyed and you dont have insurance, oh and ships get destroyed all the time due to glitches btw. also yes you can buy and play the game rn, but it is in a perpetual alpha state and has tons of bugs. its fun for a while but you run out of content very quickly and the bugs make it hard to do anything. Edit: original comment stated that you loose access to your ships when they are destroyed if you do not have insurance. this was a misunderstanding on my part as apparently cig has stated that this is not the case.

CIG banned a ton of us for pvping summit and shroud. I still have a ban until June 30th (over 60 day ban) with no reason. No proof. Just a 'you pvped near a streamer and you are banned'. The funny thing is both of those streamers sh*t on star citizen because it is a terrible tech demo and not a game. The only time Summit ever smiled is when he was killed by Jean Girard. These devs are going to end up in jail for fraud.

Main reason right now to pledge for ships is so you have something good to play with after server wipes which happen occasionally. At least thats why I bought a mining ship, so I can jump back in and make money to buy other ships after wipes.

Here is the missing context for the guy saying how you can buy the big ships in game without paying real money. First, it would normally take weeks if not months to earn a ship that size in game. The in-game economy is not really in a good state, and he got lucky during a boom patch. Right now, for example it is very slow to make decent in game currency. They regularly wipe the ships earned in game a few times a year. Often, earned ships just disappear, there is no recourse at all because it is an alpha. Ships you buy with cash are always safe, but anything earned in game is temporary. This incentivizes most players to buy at least a few ships after they have been playing for a few years and are sick of the grind.

$48k might sound like a lot - and it is - but each ship is priced based on size and capabilities. Do you need them? Not at all, you can easily get by with 1 or 2 as a starter to earn money. I have just over $1k invested and that includes heavy mining, cargo, severl single/double-seater fighters and a ground vehicle. I've been backing since 2014 when I could afford AND play it in college on my old gaming laptop. And my large investment was made over several years while still saving a large bit of money from a grind of a job. So I don't consider it a waste, but rather as a support method. I like the project, and want to see it at it's full potential. That said, I don't think it's crazy since the ships are really well desgined and cam offer a lot for larger groups of players (most of thost ships in the hundreds and especially over $1k are meant for groups of players. Most of them you couldn't solo and make it worth it.) I think it's maybe crazy to actually buy CLD like that...because honestly, if you aren't grinding for ships, there's not much else to do and earn. It's just a sandbox and solical game at that point. And as some have mentioned - it wasn't even the devs who intended to have a DLC this massive. People are just THAT into this game. I'm plenty content with my $1k investment, and mostly only pushed up that high to enter the Club for potential bonus deals, higher priority support tickets for bugs and issues, and other exclusives. But I've got several large and medium ships to support almost all industries and money-making to grind for the more end-game ships to play around with or make some fun with

I started playing this game about a month ago, right when the 3.23 patch was released. The second guy is correct in that you don't have to spend any money beyond the starter pack. I have purchased about 6 or 7 ships in game now all with in-game credits (money earned in game). It is a bit slow to start, as with any game, but most of the "good" ships are in the 3 to 8 million range and you should be earning about 200k to 500k per hour of gameplay once you get settled in a bit. I was lucky in that I had a friend to help me as the learning curve is steep and we were able to team up on salvage and mining runs and split the profit; this was a huge help until I could purchase my own salvage ship and mining ship.

I play a phone game called Vikingard and there is a VIP Level 12 that is equivalent to $50K spent in Game. It came out mid 2021 and there are multiple VIP 12s in Game across multiple servers. Most microtransaction games are PTW. There are groups of people that have petty cash to play around with equal to what most gamers make yearly.

If you spend 48k dollars for the package, you have the ships right away after release of the game, if you bought the ships ingame like the 2nd guy says, you will loose them after the official release of the game. Thats pretty much the advantage. If the package has ships with life time insurance in it, you will never loose the ship with that insurance. That's another advantage. But there are ships in the package which are made to be played with more people. You cant fly the most expensive ship alone, it is not possible. So these big packages are maybe interesting for people who have created an "organisation" kind of a guild, an alliance or how you would call it, so that these people already have these ships after the official release of the game and they could be faster in specific topics. But a 1vs1 kind of question depends on the ship you fly and on the skill you have with it, a 48k package will change nothing about that, there is no "best ship", each ship has it purpose.
