It's not unusual. He's genuine. And genuine is attractive. Remember, we live in a world of fake. So, when we see genuine, it's not typical and we want more of it. RIP Topol. He will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to not only see fiddler on the roof when it came out in theater when I was a kid, but also, just last year I saw This actor perform his final onstage appearance at the Pantages theater in LA. a memory I will have with me forever. Topal did an awesome job, he received a standing ovation. The feeling in that theater was I am sure, felt throughout. My hat goes off to this man for a job well done. And a Thank You for his part in making my life a little richer...

My sister Lisa and I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him at the stage door of Toronto's O'Keefe Centre (now known as the Sony Centre), after a performance of the 25th anniversary production in 1990. He autographed a souvenir programme and was an absolute gentleman. I'll never forget this!!!! :o)

I have been a fan of this guy's, ever since I was a little toddler and fist saw the movie. He is absolutely wonderful and he's a gift to us all. He reminds us all that we're all "Tevya's", struggling to keep our balance......just like a Fiddler On The Roof. :)

I was glad that when asked what scene in the play was his favorite, the first one Topol mentioned was the scene where Chavale is leaving to marry outside the faith. The "Little Bird" song and the ballet sequence that goes with it in the film never fail to move me deeply.

I also saw it at the Pantages, and indeed we the crowd wouldn't even let him start when he walked on the stage because we were clapping like mad. He is PURE PERFECTION. You cannot differentiate Topol and Fiddler on the Roof. They are one in the same. Thank you, Topol, for continuing to make this musical such an important part of my life!!

I too got the chance to see him in the Farewell tour In Portland OR in 2012. It played for 8 days and every show was a complete sold house, no reserves, with notices sent out prior saying "please arrive early and no less than 30 min before start time, there wiil be no admittances since it it completely sold out" I went by myself and when you are looking for just one seat, often prime seats are available. I lucked out and was center stage 10 rows back. Topol was 72 at the time and as soon as he appeared on stage the place went crazy. He looked and sounded the same as in the movie, only his beard was just more gray. And that booming iconic voice, was unbelievable. It is by far one of my most treasured memories and experiences.

i saw him in Spokane last Saturday; it was as if it didn't matter how many performances he had done in the past: it only mattered that he had a part to play and a story to tell to all of us who were there. Topol is a legend and much beloved. One of my greatest regrets is not seeing Topol perform as Teyve on stage in Fiddler on the Roof! I read reviews of his stage performances in 'Fiddler' and he was basically treated like a Rock Star by audiences at the beginning of the show and the end. :) I've loved the movie since I was a child and still watch it often.

One thing I liked about Fiddler on the Roof, besides the marvellous acting and the music, was the very well presented element of life more or less lost to us in our comfortable, technological lives these days - fragility, a real dependence on others around you, particularly family, and the utterly raw nature of changes to that structure, ie. family members being born and dying, children leaving home, getting married, moving far away or even marrying outside of the religious structure that one is an integral part of. Maybe it's just me and my fault, but one doesn't seem to get that in all it's heights of joy and depths of suffering these days, at least not as intensely, and I find Fiddler on the Roof a real medicine in that regard, a reminder of reality.
