Using size 6 seed beads, needle and thread, Leslie demonstrates how to create a three-dimensional star ornament perfect for holiday gifts. Knowledge of peyote stitch is helpful--the star is made with peyote stitch with increases.

Thank you so very much for sharing! I do not bead anymore as my vision has gotten so bad, and I almost never like anything in the bigger beads. This is just charming though and I can do it, I am so happy! The hardest part was threading the needle, your instruction is great. You made my Holiday season this year!

Started on one yesterday. Thank you for your tutorial. I only have two more to make and add on. I'm very happy with your instructions and the ease of beading it together. I started with a different tutorial that used delica and 11/0 seed beads and I only got one side done in the same amount of time. They are equally beautiful but yours is much faster! I am making a few as gifts. Thanks again.

Beautiful ornaments! I'll have to add some silver lined 6/0's to my next bead order. I'm a newbie to 3D beaded projects. I was confused at first because I'm used to beginning from the center of most projects (pendants and earrings). Once I realized you were working from a valley of the star, it was like an "ah ha" moment. The valley looks more like herringbone to me. So cool to see how mixing stitches comes out so beautifully. TFS!
@SeedBeadBliss6 жыл бұрын
3D and shaped beadwork is so fun! I love figuring out and combining different types of increases and decreases. That increase looks like herringbone for sure, and makes a dramatic effect. Glad you enjoyed!

Really appreciate you generously sharing your tutorials. So many others do not share without payment. I'm in a couple beading groups on Facebook and it's a very rare pattern I feel compelled to purchase. Some are just too expensive, esp. since they probably used a program for creating the pattern.

@@bermudagirl50 I guess I don’t know the names of the beads, but those beads are not regular seed beads with the rounded edges. These beats have a short tubular shape. I guess I don’t quite know the names of all the beads. I’m just finding it difficult to find these different sizes in that little cylinder size bead whatever it’s called.

Thank you for this, very pretty. I have a question, I’m making a decoration that needs about 3 yards of thread. I’m using Fireline 8lbs. I was wondering the same thing Nancy. I think these are most likely Toho 6/0s as their silver lined beads have more of a delica shape to them… squared off ends rather than Miyuki’s doughnut shape to their rocaille seed beads.

@ceebeedub1774 жыл бұрын
I've made one using a different pattern in 11/0s and had some trouble attaching the arms. But this one - yikes! Fireline is much better than Nymo for me. Better tension and no splitting. I could have used some instruction on arm 4 on where to put the red beads as you need to know which will get a rondelle. I'll put this project down for now and bezel a fancy stone or something for a break! 🥴

I did one with 8/os and they turned out great, my 6o were upstairs and I didn't want to climb the stairs, I have tried making the star with 11s with a different pattern, could not get it at all. saw this video and watched it and got it right away. I can read patterns but watching someone do it first takes the guess out of it. I question myself "am I doing this right" and NO I didn't, I watched this and a light went off. "Oh that is what I did wrong" I said to myself. So thank you for making a video of it, I will keep it in my files.

also, your's looks nice and stiff, with mine, you are able to ben in the puffiness. it is not stiff. I have tight tension, but that still did not help. any suggestions?
@SeedBeadBliss6 жыл бұрын
My stars are not totally stiff--you need a bit of give to work in that final 5th section. As long as the tension is firm I am sure it's fine!
@nancyarnold79326 жыл бұрын
Before zipping up the last side, you could stuff it. Just keep in mind you'll be able to see it through the holes, so you might want to use something colorless like plastic wrap or a cut-up baggie (better in your star than in the ocean!)
@katielyb4 жыл бұрын
I usually end up having to go back through the beads that connect each unit to tighten them up. I try to go through the opposite way that I went the first time but that's not always an ideal scenario. If I don't then my stars don't hold their shape well. One or two of each point end up caving in.

My brain is cramping up trying to figure this pattern out. That's on me, not you. I think it's the way in which I learn things. I'm the type of learner who needs oral, visual and pattern description. I'm a college grad. However, that means nothing when it comes to beading. You have to think your way through it. This is definitively a pattern in which you have to concentrate. I tried working on it while watching TV. Bad idea. LOL!!

Yes! Don’t try while watching tv!! This needs concentration the first few times to get the concept. Good luck!

I totally get what you mean. I always end up having to either pause videos after each individual step or rewind to watch it again. It's gotten a lot easier now that I've been beading for over a year. After learning several bead weaving techniques I can even see the next steps sometimes. You'll get the hang of it so don't get discouraged.
