I've been thinking about this since I heard that the consensus is (for now) that they don't want to recast Chekov (RIP Anton). And I'm thinking... They've introduced a fantastic new character that EVERYONE wants to see more of... How about this - by the time of the next movie, they may well "jump ahead" in the timeline about 3-4 years or so. PLENTY of time for her to have gone through Star Fleet Academy and graduated. So Chekov is "put on the bus" until ST5 or so. I don't know if people will want to recast him by then or not (man I'd HATE to be the actor who has to step into THOSE shoes! Comparison will be inevitable!) but in the meantime. - How about having Jaylah take over for Chekov at navigation? Now - before anyone jumps down my throat thinking I'm disrespecting Anton's memory or Chekov as a character, hear me out: In the franchise history, the Navigation station has had THE MOST rotation of any of the bridge crew! Chekov was not the first character at that position, and certainly not the last - he joined in 2nd season TOS. There were several minor characters who sat there during various episodes during 1st season. Also - in the animated series, Chekov wasn't around, and you had Arex, the tripedal alien at the station. Okay - so Chekov was back for the first movie - but NOT as navigator! That was Ilia! Chekov was at the weapons station. Then he was weapons again in ST2 temporarily for the Mutara Nebula battle (Saavik was at Navigation IIRC). It wasn't until ST3 that Chekov sat at navigation again! So - precedent having been set. How about we allow one movie to go past without Chekov - let fans mourn Anton (as well we should). I'd like for Chekov to not be dead, but reassigned, perhaps? (To the Reliant? DUN DUN DUN....) but regardless of whatever happens in that regard, we'd get Jaylah on the crew! :D "But she's an engineer, not a navigator!" I hear some of you saying. Well - Chekov was navigation - AND engineering as well - (in the original series he seemed to be cross-trained to handle Spock's science station) remember he took over for Scotty in Into Darkness? Plus - many characters on the crew seem to be cross-trained. She can have cross-trained in Navigation - and if necessary she can help with in Engineering as well from time to time. What do you all think?

So I don't nearly know as much as you do about Star Trek. But I will say that as long they do honour Anton Yelchin's character in the long run (I'm sure they will based how they did in this movie) then I'll be okay with it. Your idea seems good too. Let's see what they do!

@@logandarklighter Sorry for late reply, just now saw this video! I think Jaylah would be better as security chief to better use her athletic ability. But this gorgeous actress could play another character without the difficult Jaylah make-up to better use her natural beauty! She would be the most beautiful and athletic security chief ever, surpassing even Lt. Yar from TNG!
@MOBROOKS
@MOBROOKS 8 жыл бұрын
She was by far the highlight of the film. I love love love love that she is athletic!! It makes her action scenes 10 times more authentic than let's say, Kill Bill. There were actually times in Kill Bill where you can actually see uma thurman's frail arms shaking trying to hold her sword. How the fuck am I supposed believe that Uma's character could slay a room full of ninjas if she could barely hold the sword. Come on now. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate them casting someone who is athletic. I'm loving this new breed of actresses like Sofia and Daisy Ridley who will actually work out and become more athletic to play action roles. Now these are some action starlets I can get behind.

The fact that someone is Algerian only makes it more likely for that someone to be a Muslim. But she is not religious which in turn makes it more likely for her to be very wise. But, what does it matter, indeed.

She's algerian, born in Algiers..her parents algerians.. I saw her in Algiers with her dady in 2002, she was to participate in a show celebrating Algeria's indepandanc day.. I think she turned christian actualy. Most of algerians are muslims, but some of them convert to CHRISTIANISME. I know many algerians who turned christians. Anyway, it's a typicaly personnal matter. It's nothing to do with nationality or origin. Everyone may choose his religion.
