What would have happened if the Enterprise had been saved from the dying planet genesis ?
For this story we've combined some movie scenes with recreated and new CGI shots.
Question: How did the Lantree's Captain know that Kirk was being demoted to Captain ?
Have fun watching.

This 58yr old's eyes welled up when they overflew the Excelsior and caught their first view of the rebuilt NCC-1701. ST-TOS was a HUGE part of my childhood that I never outgrew. Seeing the original Enterprise rise from the ashes is just beyond words. Ranks right up there with Scotty stepping into the holodeck and onto the original Enterprise bridge in ST-TNG.

In his TV series 'Cosmos,' Dr. Carl Sagan had his 'Ship of the Imagination,' but for many of us of a certain generation the Enterprise was OUR 'Ship of the Imagination,' able to go anywhere and show us the wonders of our universe. I grew up with the Original Series Enterprise, but after meeting her 'new' incarnation in ST-TMP I quickly came to accept the 'Refit' ship as the Enterprise. I watched that movie on a big screen in Honolulu with my new bride a day after we had stood on the pier in Pearl Harbor where CVN-65 was moored, standing next to the ship. On the big screen, the starship appeared as huge and magnificent as the aircraft carrier. Thank you for "Resurrecting" her and rendering her so beautifully.

Now, I tell ya, that last flyby at 7:13 is so outstanding. This is what a Constitution-class starship is supposed to look like. None of this obvious CGI, peeling around corners like you're in a _Fast and the Furious_ movie -- in the Original Series films, ships were *ships*, gigantic lumbering behemoths that rumbled past the camera. This _Enterprise_ looks every bit the 950-foot long flagship of the fleet she is supposed to be.

I thought the ship was done fine in the new movies. the CGI was world class. scenes that show off the ship are nice, but realistically speaking if you're being transported up to a ship, it's going to happen really, really fast. you get a lot better sense of scale for the enterprise throughout the entire second movie, into darkness, because you actually get to see how miniscule a person is compared to the enterprise, side by side as Kirk and bones are swimming up to it.

Her death still echoes in my mind, as does Kirk's words. If Genesis wasn't on the verge of exploding, Starfleet would've easily recovered her and restored her once the dust had settled regarding Genesis. You brought this man to tears. It hurt to watch her die again, it hurt seeing her corpse in even worse shape. Seeing her being restored brought the tears, and seeing her resurrected and alive once again sent them into streams. Well done to everyone involved. A great What If scenario and one I, as a fan of the Constitution Refit, will enjoy.

I've always thought that the best scenario for a recovery of the original Enterprise would have been if she bounced off the atmosphere of the Genesis planet and ended up floating somewhere in space. I don't think there would be much left if she crashed on the planet with no structural integrity or AG fields running, I remember reading somewhere that the weight of the individual coil elements in the warp nacelle's is immense, I don't think the nacelle pylons would withstand that kind of crash in a planetary gravity.
@MK0272
@MK0272 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That's definitely plausible. Maybe she is found floating in space by a Pakled or Ferrengi ship and returned to the Federation during the run up to the Dominion war. Due to damage to the automation system, the self destruct sequence did not properly function and the damage was confined to the saucer section. This left the engineering section mostly intact except for hull scorching when she skipped off the atmosphere. Starfleet's mobilization for the Dominon war includes an increase to their ship repair capabilities as well as reactivation of mothballed ships from depots such as we saw in TNG. They happen to have a Constitution class saucer section that had separated from its engineering section due to a calamity, so they join it to the relatively intact Enterprise engineering section. Perhaps the saucer is even from the Enterprise-A. Additional phaser arrays, torpedo launchers, and shield generators are added, and she is made a part of First Fleet guarding Earth, Vulcan, and core planets under the command of Montgomery Scott. From there the adventures begin.

Don’t forget… The birth of Excelsior was to replace the Constitution class.. I’m sure there was some salvageable parts, but i bet, Mr Scott had a ship waiting to catch the Enterprise flying over the Landing Party, but Took a Klingon bird of prey to Vulcan 🖖. While Kirk was distracted with Spock and McCoy, Scotty was making sure “his” Enterprise was safe and recovered by his salvage crew when they lost the automation system.. Then the old flamed Enterprise returned to Earth by another ship, and went into massive repairs when the Excelsior was operational.. Mr Scott loved the Enterprise just as much as or more than Kirk.

Setting aside the impossibility that the ship would not have survived reentry or impact to the extent shown, this is LOVELY. Shatner gets his fair share of criticism for being a ham, but when he says: "Let's see what she's got!" I completely lose it.

If I was one of those engineers involved in rebuilding the Enterprise after coming into dry dock, I would stand in awe at how well the nacelle supports were able to withstand the heat of re-entry into an atmosphere, but also for the fact that the starboard support was able to remain intact when the ship crashed AND was able to hold up the weight of the ship that was hanging in the air. I'd be like "whatever is inside those supports, lets just make the whole ship out of that too."

I live in Perth, Western Australia and in the past we regularly had US warships dock at our port city of Fremantle, flooding our city with US servicemen. I remember the Christmas of 1986 when my dad and I saw STAR TREK IV and half the cinema would have been US navy men. When Chekov communicates to Kirk, "And admiral - it is the Enterprise", the entire theater erupted with cheers. I will NEVER forget that moment and it's making me tear up now just thinking about it. My dad is now gone but he passed his love of STAR TREK to me - something I'm forever grateful for.

@@ivaneames4354 I can partially explain the latter question. In this parallel reality, the Genesis planet was still ripping itself apart, just much slower than in ST3. But yeah, quite a few plot holes here.

The 1979 design is, in my opinion, significantly better than most of the others that we've had in the last 20 years. Actually there are 2 versions of destruct. Destruct 0 and Destruct 1. Destruct 1 uses a warp core explosion to completely destroy everything causing all sorts of radiation etc. it is used away from planetary bodies etc. destruct 0 used here is for populated areas. It’s designed to destroy the computer banks for security and scuttle the ship in atmosphere as done here. Safer near planets for life there. Kirk needed to protect Genesis at least until he saved Spock and got everyone off the planet so he used destruct 0.

In mr Scott's guide to the enterprise its explained that there are 2 self-destruct modes. One that is ment for open space that goes up in a big fire ball. And one ment for if the ship is too close to a planet or other objects in which smaller explosives are detonated in all primary systems and key structural points to render the remains dead and useless.
