The Empire Strikes Back is one of the best films ever in the history of cinema.

The public feels _Star Wars_ is one of the best films; certainly the best of a generation. Fans feel _Empire Strikes Back_ is the best of the series. Empire is considered the best sequel to date (although Avengers Endgame is pretty good).

The first thrilogy, are the best films i can see in '80! When the first Star Wars was launched in the 1977 i have 7 years old! George Lucas its a genius, and Star Wars live forever!

I saw this film in the theater in 1980 when I was 13 years old. Two ladies were in line with me and it turned out that their son/grandson was one of the Special Effects artists on the film. I mentioned that I wanted to be an artist and she took my address and said that she would tell her son about me. About week later, a big manila envelope came to my home. Inside was a hand drawn pencil sketch of Darth Vader's helmet, and said "To Rick, Good Luck and May the Force be with you.". I had never considered being an artist for the film industry, but here I was being shown that a kid from the neighborhood was actually doing it. To make a very long story short. I became a special effects makeup artist for film and TV. I have had a 35 year career of wonderful assignments and it is all thanks to this film, and for showing a little kid what was possible.

Interesting how the film kind of parallels real life in that the first film had obi wan and was directed by George lucas whereas the sequel had Yoda who trained obi wan and was made by the guy who taught George

Dear old Sebastian Shaw never gets the credit he deserves. I know it was a very small part but he added something quite special as the unmasked Vador.

5:56 "My opinion of myself as a writer is....less than enthusiastic." That's an understatement. Mark Hamill still quibs about the line he had to speak during the audition process which was using an older draft of A New Hope: “But we can’t turn back! Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilaer Sullust and what there is is most likely directed towards a large scale assault.” George is a great world builder, just like Gene Roddenberry. However, STAR WARS would have flopped if not for the involvement of his peers.

I hear people say Lucas hated Empire Strikes Back and it's his least favourite of all the Star Wars movies. If that's so, then why does he go to the trouble of saying what he says at 24:52?
@theunknowncommenter7253 жыл бұрын
Who speaks of such lies and deceptions? I've never heard Master Lucas express dissatisfaction with any of his Star Wars films.
@RoaryUK2 жыл бұрын
Lucas never hated Empire, but It's well known he wasn't happy with some of the dialogue changes that were made without his knowledge. The most infamous change being the "I know" response to Leia, which really happened on the fly, and the lesser known problems with the Han and Leia love scenes Lucas had written to be far more dramatic, but were eventually cut down to what was being implied, which otherwise could've been another AOTC.
@MiguelCruz-oz7km2 жыл бұрын
I think he was quoted as saying it was the worst one. Here's the problem. It was in print. So far as I know no audio has ever been produced of it. The problem is irony doesn't come across well in print. It's very possible that he was joking, but it's hard to tell because we don't have the full context.
@marcelaucoin4332 жыл бұрын
His initial opinion of Empire was soured in part by the fact that it went considerably over budget, requiring him to broker a deal with 20th Century Fox to get them to help cover the extra expenses. Lucas had been very keen to finance the movie himself and not have to give up any artistic control and/or ownership. Fortunately for him, Fox agreed to help finance the film in return for a slightly bigger percentage of the profits, enabling Lucas to retain full ownership of the movie, but that experience rubbed him the wrong way. Apparently, he was much more ‘hands on’ as a producer on ROTJ as a result and kept its director (Richard Marquand) on a much shorter leash. Over time, though, Lucas came to appreciate Empire’s brilliance and embraced it along with the rest of the world.

15:48 It's called "leitmotif", George.... 19:55 No, that's a lie. "The Other" was in fact a setup for the then planned Sequel Trilogy, where Luke would go off in search of his hidden sister (NOT Leia) called Nellith, who'd be in secret training across the galaxy. 20:58 If there were only three or four people allowed to know the plot twist, then why did you blame Dave Prowse for GUESSING right before the movie was even made? Kirshner himself said that Prowse was given fake lines, so he didn't give anything away.

I think George is just a film geek who loved cinematography and wanted to make films like the ones that made him happy when he was a child. Hes just not a actors director, hes a film student first and foremost who is just kind of a shy nerdy guy. Hes concerned about how things look on screen. Everybody has their weaknesses, and this is Georges. If he were anyone else, he would just be considered a normal introvert, but because he created Star Wars now people think he has autism. Its just another case of people looking into things too much. You dont have to have autism to not be a people person.
@white-dragon4424 Жыл бұрын
He's got most of the traits of being an Aspie. The only trait he doesn't have is the ability to tell the truth. He says here that he always planned to have Vader to be Luke's father (it makes it sound all planned out), whereas in reality he didn't make Vader into Luke's father until later scripts. Early scripts even showed Luke meeting Anakin's ghost! As for saying weird stuff, this is nothing compared to what he wanted Marion Ravenwood to be in Raiders. Let's just say he wanted her to be about 21 or 22 years old in the movie, and for her and Indiana to have had their affair 10 years earlier...

The Force Awakens is SHIT now that I've thought back why I walked out numb and annoyed. The flashy special effects and swift cuts left no room for SOUL or real underlying myth to be built. The new people are sketchy shown and the old characters were disrespected in keeping them apart in some bullshit they were normal TRASH with a goth kid and estranged with no hint of a good reason for a TIGHT Threesome family Han, Luke-Leia spiirtual twins apart. SW8 needed the shit ending SW7 gave us. Awakens needed to provide JOY happiness TOGETHERNESS CELEBRATION COMMUNITY in a triumph - *STAR WARS IS BACK BIG BOLD BLESSED* THAT EVERY TRILOGY FIRST MOVIE HAD - Phantom Menace even. They DIDN'T EVEN HAVE LEIA HUG CHEWIE AFTER HAN WAS MURDERED, WTF FUCKING FUCK??!! Now I rather would watch Prequels!! That ATLEAST has the CLASSIC and SPIRIT of the saga LUCAS GAVE US, Disney, Abrams and fucking Kasdan(full of shit in my mind now, he sees FORM not SUBSTANCE in his Scripting) gutted it all for easy box office flash cash shit. It was edited cut to hell on purpose just to have as many showings in the theater so you GOT NOTHING But Quick Fleeting glimpses about who the new people were or the sense of the politics. I DON'T RECOGNISE OR RESPECT ANYTHING FROM DISNEY AT ALL NOW. The book novelization fleshes some out BUT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO READ OR BUY A FUCKING BOOK TO UNDERSTAND APPRECIATE A MOVIE. NEVER NEEDED A FUCKING BOOK TO BE OBSESSED WITH THE FIRST STAR WARS TRILOGY, bokks etc only was whipped cream on top of epic goodness ON IT'S OWN, not a marketing ploy WITHHOLDING INFO ON PURPOSE to get people to SPEND on CRAP.
