Luke mother fracking skywalker. I loved his line about choices. “What else is there?” “A choice” “you mean the rebellion?” “No, to be better” that’s such an amazing line and it gives a lot of insight into his character. He no longer sees the universe as black and white, he’s sees at as a deep vast void only given shape by the choices we make.
@jaredevans8263
@jaredevans8263 6 жыл бұрын
Luke realizes that everyone, in both the rebellion and the empire, has been through a lot of shit. Luke has been through hell himself, and he lets people choose their own ideals and destiny rather than saying "YOU CAN'T BE ANGRY THAT LEADS TO THE DARKSIDE" horseshit like the old Republic Jedi. Just by saying "a choice to be better" tells us that he's open minded and compassionate

How do you feel after watching TLJ.
@Ren-gt8ov
@Ren-gt8ov 6 жыл бұрын
Victor Tan I enjoyed him. I felt like this was more Luke since he’s closer in age to the OT Luke. In TLJ he still was very much about choices. He chose to leave and now the universe is in even worse position because of hi absence and refused to accept his role. It’s seems like he learned something, forgot it, then remembered what he had lost. Master Yoda made sure to remind him that our choices don’t always work out, but that’s not a bad thing. We can learn from our mistakes, and others from them as well. If anything TLJ and luke thought us that the Jedi aren’t done, they still have to improve. Rey won’t get us there, neither will broom kid, but the force is still there and eventually it’ll work out. The legend of Luke Skywalker will continue to inspire others to make a choice. I really loved that message

That's why we all love Luke. His conflict with Vader brought him a Wisdom no Jedi ever had for decades. Quigon might be the only one who shared Lukes outlook on the World but everyone else was just blinded by arrogance. Anakin brought balance to the Force but he also was a open Wound that had bleed for decades. Luke healed him and brought Peace to the entire Galaxy and this alone makes him one of the most powerful Jedis who ever lived

You must of not read the legends version of Luke... He was a dick who even slapped Leia for not wanting to learn the ways of the force, also tortured imperial soldiers to death even after promising to spare them. Hints why in the 4, 5 and 6, Vader, palatine and LITERALLY everyone is having to tell Luke to be patient and not use anger.

Ozymandais It really depended on the writer. Sometimes Legends Luke was a man of compassion and sometimes not.... as much as I like most of Legends, my main issue with it is that some Legends writers did not really seem to understand Luke's character.
@Dimension3500
@Dimension3500 5 жыл бұрын
Considering Disney's abortion of a continuity, even the worst of Legends aged better by comparison. And that's the point, even in the worst of Legends material it was always a certainty that the person writing the story LOVED Star Wars, and this made the bad things bearable, the mediocre good and the good things great. Did some authors get him wrong? Of course, but did the composition of all their works throughout EU make his victory and success story from ROTJ invalid? No, it didn't. For every bad Luke story, or bad Luke author, there are COUNTLESS of good ones, COUNTLESS that explore his character in interesting ways, but that don't butcher the "person" he is. Now? Now it's only agenda pushing, with heavily sanctioned authors who are already getting inconsistent with their own tales. Authors of the EU would research continuity points in order to write a good SW story, after being granted the opportunity. Modern SW writers ask their hideously biased story team for approval in everything they do. Luke's overall portrayal in Legends is still way more respected, awesome, and makes for a way more interesting story than having him flee like a coward, refuse to fix his mistakes, and die alone as a failure just so Rey can one up him by proving she can do everything he couldn't, and better. It is a soft reboot, plain and simple, while the Original EU dealt with those stories as possibilities to take SW into new directions. This was what Lucas did with the prequels, love it or hate it, and this is what Lucasfilm promoted with their books, comics and games. Now? Just look at BF2's campaign and it's botched premise, and it's need to, even today, get approval from Lucasfilm in EVERYTHING they do. Disney killed actual creativity from Star Wars, and in order to push their own particular vision for the universe they had to butcher it's soul, which was always Luke himself. And this is exactly what they did.

@Avarn388
@Avarn388 6 жыл бұрын
Yup. Because, Luke Skywalker to me is what the Jedi were at their best, much like Kenobi. Because, Luke has experienced darkness; I mean look at his relation with Vader. And in turn, him wanting to complete Yoda's request, despite being lied to, and succeeding is what made his character arc so good. It is why I am hesitant about TLJ's depiction of Luke. But I will keep an open mind.

Lol the Jedi of the Prequel Era were compassionate. They forbid attachment so you wouldn't make stupid choices like saving 1 loved one instead of 3 people you don't know. All life should be valued equally. How is it that people still don't get the values of the Jedi?
@DegenerateJay
@DegenerateJay 6 жыл бұрын
They were and they weren't. The Jedi of the Prequels were mostly compassionate but you can tell that the war changed them for the worse in most ways throughout TCW and into ROTS. I also think it doesn't help that Mace wasn't very compassionate and was one of the figureheads of the order, but that's not representative of the order as a whole.
@trevinodude
@trevinodude 6 жыл бұрын
xavier wooten This game reminds me of Legends Luke... his compassion allowed Legends Luke to create a successful, more powerful version of the Jedi Order that was less dogmatic and more human. In Legends, the new Jedi were so in tune with the Force due to their true inner peace that instead of getting Force blocked like Yoda in the prequels (clouded this is due to the dark side), the best of the Jedi such as Luke could become the Force itself in the physical plane, making Luke sort of a Force powered 'Super Saiyan' in the old book universe. Too bad all of that became non canon.

Cuz this takes place much closer to Ep 6 than 8. By the time 8 comes around, he'd been living under the immense pressure to be perfect and train a new generation of jedi to be perfect, only to make the most costly mistake he could have ever made and created a new proto Vader, and set the galaxy back to what it was when he was a farm boy on Tatooine. This Luke in this game, hadn't experienced any of that yet.

I'd prefer that he had a small role like his BF2 appearance than the character assassination we saw in The Last Jedi. If Disney didn't want him to overshadow Rey, they could've just made him ever more wise, spiritual and pacifist and left all the action to her. It would've been a worthy conclusion for Luke Skywalker, completing his overall arc. This is the guy who risked himself for his friends and redeemed Darth Vader in the original trilogy! With even more experience as a Jedi Knight in the years after ROTJ, sensing the dark side in his Nephew was small fry compared to his life experiences.

It was basically Mandalorian season 2.5 As far as Luke's scenes, I liked them but wanted more, even though it wasn't about him. You can tell he's still knowledgeable and growing with wisdom but still learning. I'm curious to see how he goes in the future. It's sad that we didn't get any portrayal of Luke in the 90s in his prime, when coincidentally Mark Hamill ALSO would have been... What did you think...?

@GunDelight

NationalPjVillain they didn't explain shit. They didn't tell who Snoke was, where he came from, or how he seduced Ben. I didn't want Luke from Return of the Jedi, I wanted that Luke with 40 years of wisdom. What we got was a completely different character, with less restraint and courage than he did than even in TESB for god sakes.
@NationalPjVillain
@NationalPjVillain 6 жыл бұрын
William Wallace they don’t have to tell who snoke is or where he came from just like they didn’t with palpatine, it’s pretty obvious that he just affected his mind using the force, why would t be 40 years of wisdom when everything he’s done has been undone and his viewpoint changed from mistakes and tragedy? And of course he wouldn’t be nearly the same at all after all of that
@GunDelight
@GunDelight 6 жыл бұрын
NationalPjVillain They did tell about the Emperor both direct reference and through conversations about Vader. They further expanded upon this with the first 3 episodes. Snoke is now a similarly powerful top villain who presumably was alive during that era of this now established universe. Leia suffered just as much as Luke and she's still fighting? Most of these tragedies are just bad writing from The Force Awakens retreading plot points already explored in the previous two trilogies: fall of the jedi again, fall of the republic again, superweapon again, stormtroopers again, rebels again. It's just shitty copying because they couldn't think of anything new and now with the Last Jedi they are trying to discard the previous two trilogies without adding anything.

Yeah, very little actually. When you reach a certain age, from my experience, most people stay the same person from that point on. If I look back 20 years, my parents, my siblings and friends are pretty much the same people with the same values and personalities. The biggest change is that most of them are wiser. And in this story, Han Solo stayed the same, Leia was pretty much the same character even though they lost their son to the Dark Side they still tried to get him back. While Luke just abandoned everyone, his friends his family and became a freaking cowardly hermit. And the worst part it was not really his fault either. It was Kylo Ren emotional outburst because of a misunderstanding. I hate what they did to Lukes character, they pretty much just turned him into a less interesting Yoda. But call me retarded because I obviously don't agree with your opinion on it. Very mature response.

Age. And wariness of living up to the legacy that was created for him. Right now, he's being what he must be. But this kind of compassion and clarity is hard to keep up. When he made a mistake, it cost him almost everything. Ironic too, since the fans now are so mad at what happened to Luke, wanting him to be the hero we see here, yet that's exactly what made Luke so tired and angry and regretful in the first place, that expectation that he HAD to be something that is ultimately unrealistic. "I failed, because I was Luke Skywalker. A legend."

@christopherstanley4837
@christopherstanley4837 6 жыл бұрын
It wasn't only the mistake. It was a collection of things. Age for one, DOES change character. Living under pressure for long stretches of time, does change character too. What we see here, is still just the start of Luke's time as a Jedi. The pressure of being something greater than human, a Jedi, hasn't yet gotten to him and by the time 10 years passes, he'll have a new Galaxy looking to him and his academy and new students that he has to teach as well. Luke by the time of Ep 8 had been living under this immense pressure to live up to the Jedi perfection for what 20 years, 30?. And he had to do this BY HIMSELF since he had no other teachers with him. That's a tough image to live up to. When he finally made a mistake, it wasn't just any mistake, it was the biggest and most costly mistake he could have made. So, he lost faith in everything and as Han put it in Ep 7, walked away from everything. To say it was a single mistake that changed him is incorrect.
@asain3586
@asain3586 6 жыл бұрын
Christopher Stanley Oh he made a lot of mistakes in OT like when yoda told him he's not ready to face vadrt. Still, he wanna save his father in the end. The second most evil person who he doesn't even know and close of. And u expect me to believe this guy want to kill someone who is his nephew, presumably he love and take care of him right from birth. U mean luke can see good in stranger but not in his relative? The one near him? Ok bro
@christopherstanley4837
@christopherstanley4837 6 жыл бұрын
Hear me out. He wasn't looking at his nephew as a whole. He wasn't even looking at his nephew at all. Luke already knew of the conflicting good and bad. He was looking at what his nephew was going to do in the extremely near future. Hence why he ignited his saber WITHOUT THINKING. Like how people ready themselves to fight or defend themselves when awoken from a nightmare. I feel this is what EVERYONE is not getting. Luke's vision was not looking into Ben's morality or his inner conflict with good and evil but instead what the future held for Ben. And before Luke could think about it his body reacted the same way it always did, fight first, ask questions later. Its clear (to me at least) that Luke didn't check for Ben's moral alignment because he already could sense the good and the bad. He knew there was good in him, but also knew he was drawn to the dark. That's why Luke checked his future. To see which side Ben would pick on his own. Luke never wanted to kill Ben, it wasn't a conscious thought, it was reflex. I think fans would realize this better if they weren't so enraged that Luke wasn't perfect like the EU made him to be.

@w-james9277 6 жыл бұрын
We see Luke in ESB having visions of the future. So of course he could see what he was going to do. And unlike his father who always had good in him, Kylo did not. Yes, there was still good in him at that period of time but he knew it wouldn't last and by the end of TLJ there was no good left in Kylo. Rey, Luke and most importantly, Leia knew that he was gone. Let me remind you of a similar incident with Luke in ROTJ. Luke spent the entire film saying how he was going to bring his father back to the light. Yet after he stood over him after defeating him, Luke was ready to strike him down for good. If the Emperor wasn't to arrogant and didn't interrupt, Luke would've killed him. What happened in TLJ was like poetry. Luke having the chance to destroy another evil person, yet realising that it's not the Jedi way and spares him. Like you said, Luke knew *the future is always in motion.* But unlike Vader who did have good in him, Ben did not and proceeded to kill all his fellow pupils. Think about what would happen if Luke did kill Ben, the galaxy would be in a much better state. And why would Ben not have his lightsaber near him in his own quarters. And if I remember correctly, Ben used the force to bring his lightsaber towards him. And if there was a shining green light flashing in your face, I'm sure you would've woken up as well. The reason why Luke left was because he knew that the best way for peace to exist in the galaxy was for the force to die. How many billions have died as a result of Jedi and Sith trying to resolve their differences? He knew that the Jedi failed to act when it counted. As they've always done. They let the empire and the Sith, come to power, right under their very noses. As far as Luke was concerned, it was over. However when Luke does start using the force again, Yoda reminds him that failure is the biggest teacher. That was Luke's mistake. And Luke makes mistakes because he's human who feels guilt and regret. Also, why didn't Yoda, Obi-Wan and all the other surviving Jedi not help the rebellion? Yoda in particular. The moment the empire was declared, they all fucked off into exile and from your standpoint, it makes no sense. TLJ made Luke an even more compelling and was a great farewell to his character. And if you're gonna say that it ruined Star Wars, you've clearly not seen the prequels.
@w-james9277
@w-james9277 6 жыл бұрын
So Luke should never make mistakes again? That's inhuman. And at that time there was still good in Ben. But Luke knew it wouldn't last long. He knew that he had already been turned and will not turn back. Not even his father could turn him back. When Luke did come back, he told Leia that he has not come to save him, he came to stop him and Leia accepted that her son has gone. If there was always good in Kylo then he would've been redeemed years before the events of TFA took place. And STILL, Luke didn't kill him. He tried to reason with him. Ben wasn't having any of it. A good person would've at least given Luke a chance to explain himself but Ben did not. He was evil and should've been killed there and then. The difference between Vader and Kylo is that Vader did not kill his own family. Kylo did. And he did it without any remorse. He stabbed his father through the chest and tossed him over the side like he was a peace of trash. Vader chose to sacrifice himself to save his son. Kylo would not have done that. What proves that Kylo cant be saved is because Luke, the man who saved Vader said he couldn't. And his own mother said it as well. Kylo at the end of TLJ is on his way to being the new emperor. And Luke wasn't keen on redeeming the emperor if I recall. The real Luke would have felt the darkness rising in Ben, seen what he was going to do, contemplate killing him (like any rational person would) and then try to reason with him. When I see people like you saying "Luke would never have done that" I just think… Of course he would! Anyone would. It would be weird if he didn't. To say Vader provoked him is a weak excuse. If Luke was the good Jedi you claim, he wouldn't have tried to kill Vader in the first place. "But he was younger" allot of Jedi were masters by his age. And how do you know that Vader didn't feel any remorse. Did you see what his face was like from behind the mask? I like to think that he often did. And may I remind you that Luke also killed ALLOT of people. Yet he showed absolutely no remorse. In fact he often laughed and celebrated. There wasn't one scene where he said "They didn't give me a choice. I did what I must for the greater good." Of course the Jedi and Sith were fighting to settle their differences. They both had different visions of what the galaxy should look like and they were basically trying to wipe each other out. Luke came to a sensible conclusion that the galaxy doesn't need either. And that wherever there are Jedi, there will be Sith. The force is both light and dark. You cannot uphold one and try and destroy the other. Snoke said it best "darkness rises and light to meet it." And that will always be the case. The cycle will go on and on. Luke tried to end it for the better until Rey and Yoda showed him an alliterative path. Luke represented the old way, the traditional way, Rey represents and new, more open way. More of a balance. The rebellion was around for many years before Luke came into the picture. And before that, there were many different rebel fractions. You cannot complain about Luke going into exile, yet be fine with Yoda and all the other surviving Jedi doing the same thing. Obi-Wan was not planning. He basically said he'll help if they had no choice but other than that, he wanted no part in it. The only reasons he got involved was because Leia said he was their only hope and he thought Luke could help them. I completely disagree with your last statement. TLJ's best quality is its compelling characters. The movie was entirely character driven. And for me, the two most compelling were Klyo Ren and Luke. Unlike you, I like characters with depth. If you prefer the cardboard characters of the prequels then good for you. But me I like a little more heart and emotion in my characters.

Despite TFA establishing a traumatic new story for Luke, the ending of the film left us with the excitement of seeing what kind of man Luke's become. It didn't end like that. It ended with him inspiring the resistence and he died at peace, the movie completely beat you over the head with these themes. Disagreeing with the way TLJ did Luke does not excuse your lack of attention and that you didn't notice what the movie clearly wanted you to notice suggests that your attention was so unable to get over a particular moment that you failed to observe everything following that moment.

foff ff But that's the messed up part about that ending. It wasn't the real Luke, it was his projection of himself. How can you die for something and you're not there in person? It would have made an impact if he was actually there. Finn's close death was almost ALMOST an impact because I started to feel for the poor guy until that was botched. A broken man who died for nothing because thats what i took the image of him standing before Kylo Ren for. The movie was trash.

Although I wanted luke to be a little less mopey and it would have been cool if obi wan or anakin came out as force ghosts with yoda, i was satisified with the movie because atleast they did lukes death right and he went out peacefully.
@David-xg5uu
@David-xg5uu 6 жыл бұрын
that is just your opinion. When Leia claims luke died at peace, and that happy hopeful musical tune by john willioms is playing I take it at face value. This is not a deep movie, it is not something with layers. The movie tells me something, and I accept it as fact.

Say what you will about this game, but they absolutely nailed Luke’s character. The reason he rose above the previous Jedi is because he was human, not a self entitled robot who didn’t have emotions. I really hope the Last Jedi shows this side of Luke more, and doesn’t leave him as a grumpy old hermit.

David Willis While he wasn’t as optimistic and caring as this Luke, I still liked how his arc ended. He regained the Legend that the galaxy had created about him, and ended up winning in the most Jedi way possible: beating the bad guys without even fighting.

I share your opinion. Leia physically and mentally looks like her mother and inherited her talent for the politics. But in her youth she was as rebel and insolent as her father, (she's also as sassy as he was ^^) and just like him she contains a lot of hatred for the enemy. But contrary to him, her anger is only strengthening her desire for justice, and she never lets her hatred control her discernment. Leia works in the interest and good of all and never for her, and that this is also something she inherited from her foster family. Luke physically looks like his father (except for the size ^^), shared many of his mentality during his youth, and inherited his talents in the piloting and in the apprenticeship of the force. But in time some character trait of his mother show themselves in Luke. Just like her he becomes more calm and patient than his father was. And he shows more condolence and compassion to his enemies. But since Luke already seemed to have forgiven his father a very big part of his crimes against the galaxy, it is not surprising that Luke also tries to see the good in everyone.

Back on Cloud City Vader used the force the grasp Luke's severed hand. He cloned Skywalker from that hand and named him Jake. Vader raised him in fear, hatred, and pain on the Executor hoping to make him a Sith. When Jake was two years old just before the battle of Endor a bounty hunter who'd been hunting for Luke damanded to be payed for information that the Rebel fleet was going to attack Endor. Vader refused to pay. However, the crafty bounty hunter infuriated at not being paid, ran into little Jake in the hangar bay and kidnapped him for ransom on his way off the Executor. After the battle of Endor the bounty hunter realized Vader and the Emperor were dead and decided to sell Jake to pirates who sold him into a life of slavery in the spice mines of Kessel, where he was underfed malnoursihed and beaten if he stepped out of line. In order to survive he frequently had to drink titty milk from a weird alien seal they used as a beast of burden to carry mining equipment into the mine shafts. Through his harsh life in the mines and ordeal after ordeal he eventually learned to feel the force in rudementary way. Through his newfound ability he eventually managed to steal an X-wing on Kessel and decided he was done with humanity and decided to live out the rest of his life on Ahch-To.

“What else is there?” “A choice” “you mean the rebellion?” “No, to be better” This small piece of dialogue embodies what is great about the pre Disney Star Wars. The universe isn’t simply black or white, but your choices can still leave a lasting impact regardless of your beliefs. I feel like it also plays into the line in the revenge of the sith crawl when it says there are heroes on both sides.. sigh.. getting excited about this and immediately remembering Disney Star Wars.. “they fly now?” “They fucking fly now.”
