Something about the 2004 version I like more than Battlefront 2005. I think it's just the simplicity and slower style of movement, I have been playing online with it recently as well and the hit registration seems a lot better, I think maybe because they did an update to the game last year.

I live 2005's battlefront 2 but I have to admit I prefer the 1st game. The inability to play as heroes cemented my place as "just another trooper" in the game and It was the feeling I was looking for!, the vehicles had more splash damage. You could one-shot troops in packs just by shooting in the middle which gave a feeling of absolute power when driving them, or overwhelming dread when you met an adversary driving one. Finally, my last gripe with bf2 2005 were the ballistic weapons in the space battles which took me out of the starwars universe.

The good thing by doing a lot of research in order to review a game is that you always learn new things about the game and the company itself. The background and the making of the game was also mostly new to me.

Oh man, I have SO many memories playing this and BF2 back in the day with my friend doing split-screen. Sometimes we'd be on the same team, other times the opposing. I treasure these two games and seeing how someone was kind to port the Xbox DLC of BF2 to PC just brought back a rush of nostalgia for these games.

Good video Cant ever forger how awesome this game was when it first came out and then how amazing the second one was, BF2 was the first legit big name shooter game to play online multiplayer with other people over the net on a handheld PSP! That was crazy cool but back to BF1, that game was like a dream come true for SW fans, being able to fight along side Darth Vader on Hoth against the rebels and being able to tangle up the AT-ATs legs with the snow speeders or throw thermal detonators at those damn ewoks. So many details, it felt like you were playing in the films. It would be great to be able to go back and feel that feeling again, playing with my friends after school. Ive always been a bigger fan of Halo than other games but I can never forget those days when BF1 was new.

Few corrections I would like to make: 1. Development began in LATE 2002 rather than early 2002. Yes, if you take Lead Artist Jens Andersen for his word, and ignore the director and lead producers, the game did start well BEFORE 1942's release, but that would have meant starting the game while they were rushing to complete The Clone Wars (2002), which was a big game for a very small team. There's just more testimony that the game started late and it makes sense that the team was only really working on just one game at a time back then. 2. I think you're putting a little too much emphasis on Ward. He was only president during the last 4 months (May-Sep 2004) of Battlefront's approximate 2 years of development. The game was already in alpha, meaning it was "feature-complete" and therefore needed some polish and restructuring. True, it did need a lot of work to make the final cut, but there was so much going on before Ward arrived! Thanks should go to former president Simon Jeffery for devoting his time between 2000 and 2003 making good relations with outside developers (like Pandemic) to have SW games almost exclusively made externally. If it wasn't for Jeffery pushing for more creative diversity with the SW license, we may never have had Pandemic be in the position to propose the game to LucasArts. Ward was just the inheritor of that phenomenal approach. 3. While elements all throughout LucasArts, from top to bottom, were fired after Ward became president, they didn't really have too much to do with SW. Jeffery used the workload that was offset to external teams to allow LucasArts' *internal* developers to focus on creative endeavors like original IPs (for once), which ultimately flopped and which were the teams that Ward mainly halved. SW games were doing great in 2003 and 2004, while the non-SW games kinda sucked.

I wish I had some of these informations before I was writing the script for this video. I had to go by research on the internet (and I did not stumble about the things you wrote), I was also unable to contact somebody from Pandemic. The best resource I had was the book Rogue Leaders - The Story of LucasArts. Anyway thank you for your comment and your corrections.

I really enjoyed this video! :) Personally, however, I disagree with you about the campaign. The first three missions with the droids against the local populations of Naboo and Kashyyyk were unique and could not be played in Instant Action or GC. Also, I love the movie cutscenes and mission briefings but that's just me. :D Here's why I think BF 1 still has value compared to BF2, though: 1) Better graphics and lighting. I always thought how strange it was that the lighting in the sequel was somehow worse. 2) Ability to go prone. 3) First-person cockpit view for ships and tanks. 4) Shooting with the blasters itself in BF1 actually feels much more impactful and better than in BF2. 5) GC is still very fun with the option to destroy a planet and with planetary bonuses.

Brilliant review! It really points out the good and bad side of the game, the many wins, but also the flaws that made it fall short. I'll add my own suggestions and points to which game you should pick up if you haven't played it before, the old as time BF1 vs BF2 debate. BF1 plays a lot more realistically and is more accurate to star wars physics. For example, bullets fly slower. Not too slow to shoot with, but they fly at the speed that you'd expect a star wars blaster bolt to fly at, whereas in BF2 they're more like bullets in that they're fast flying and almost instant hitting their targets. Also, smaller details such as explosives and vehicle missiles can cause ground units to be sent flying if caught in their radius in BF1, unlike in BF2 where they just take damage instead of being sent flying. The AI also acts more realistic in BF1 compared to in BF2, as they're more arcadey in BF2. In BF1, if you shoot an enemy unaware of your presence, they either panic and do a tactical roll, or turn to face the direction of the damage they recieved and star shooting if they see you. This is noticeably absent in BF2, as they'll usually be aware if your presence anyway, but even if they aren't and you shoot them, they will instantly lock on to you and start firing whilst strafing left and right, there's no realistic turning to face you, they just snap to your direction and start shooting. They will do this regardless of how far away you are, for example if you're a sniper and you're shooting them from all the way across the map, they'll snap to your direction and start firing at you no matter the weapon, despite you being so far away they shouldn't even be able to see you. BF1 makes much more sense, as they'll usually roll away and take cover when sniped, and they won't know where the shot came from. Also graphically the second game falls short. The first game has a smoother appearance with more shadows and rounded edges, whereas the second game seems to lack a lot of smoothing, shadows and good quality textures. I will always recommend BOTH games, but play BF1 first, you'll appreciate it much more when playing BF2 afterwards. The first game is more of a simulator, the second game goes all out with arcadey expanded gameplay. Play whichever one you like, but trust me when I say the second one feels more realistic.
