For clarity: In the first video, *the online modes couldn't be tested* because they hadn't come, well, online. I said this in the original video. Now that they've fully launched the multiplayer we can see how bad the servers are which is why I made this update video to alert people instead of pretending everything is fine. 99.9% of you guys understand this, but some seem to be struggling... lol

The biggest problem is you have 64 players in a match with only 100 tickets with no way to change it. That's not even 2 kills per player. The game ends before it even really begins. Have the devs even played the game?

100 tickets a game means games only last like 10 minutes at max which is absurdly short for this kind of game. You spend more time in the menus and connecting than playing.

7:30 I'm sorry, I'm not giving Aspyr this excuse. All they had to do was get 64 play testers in a lobby and they would have seen how atrocious the servers performed. This is negligence and incompetence to a huge degree.

Anything that is an "update" of old games, wait a month. They're literally not worth the pain of dealing with them at launch. I know these two games were classic and amazing back in the day, but no company seems to release a remaster/updated version of a game in any capacity that matches the original. Which is pretty sad given the giant leap in technology of today.

People forgot this game is coming from the same people who had to announce the dlc for KOTOR2 wasn’t coming out after announcing they’d give it to fans and then put their games on sale as an apology not to mention some of their ports being super buggy AND shutting down their production of the KOTOR remake but our saving grace was another company picking it up shortly after, honestly I was hopeful but also not surprised this happened, people got too hyped and not trying to sound like an asshole for saying it either but ever since their announcement of this game no one seemed to have remembered the companies history…

Campaigns are missing entire cutscenes! Altered lighting update has ruined the whole look of levels to the point of washed-out, gray-scale. Can't invert Y-axis on mouse or controller (Originals you can. This can thankfully be achieved with Steam Input's overlay). No crossplay (was advertised, but that advertisement has since been removed). Split-screen is now limited to 2-player (Originals had 4-player split screen on Xbox and via the official Multi-tap adapter for PS2). Textures, while sharper, are lazily just A.I. upscaled; and some aspects of the games (HUD/Main Menu) aren't even properly redone, they're simply left stretched from the original 4:3 aspect ratios. Online multiplayer is an abysmal mess. Both the original SWBF1 and SWBF2 on Steam are ~11 GB combined. If you were to add the upscaled teztures mod for both the originals with widescreen patches, this brings the original games combined to only 18 GB. I am trying to wrap my head around where the other ~42 GB in this new re-release to make it nearly 60 GB is coming from! I won't tell you how to spend your money; but I simply refuse to support this garbage. Even with Aspyr's reputation to drop the ball consistently, I foolishly still had my hopes up for this collection. Day ruined, man.

I wanted to see how the launch would be since the online multiplayer is what I was looking forward to the most. Yeah, that wasn't just the right decision, that was dodging a bullet.

I was willing to forgive some of the multiplayer problems because I primarily play singleplayer but when I learned that half of the cutscenes in the battlefront 2 campaign are missing thats a nope and a refund from me. Like how do you fuck that up

apart from massive layoffs throughout the industry, server capacity issues(unwillingness to put more money into it) seems to be the biggest problem for online games these days.

Other than the multiplayer issues, there are three other massive issues for me specific to the PC version: 1. Mouse input feels super wonky and off, likely due to this being a console port and the game trying to translate mouse input into analog stick input. 2. The UI and menus are terrible on PC with a mouse and keyboard. Again a side effect of porting the console version. 3. At ultrawide resolutions, the UI is super bugged. Certain parts (like the ammo counter) are stretched while others are not. Class select screen looks terrible. Feels like your actual view is just 16:9 cropped at the top and bottom.

The launch last night was super bad online but I still had fun with single player and with the few online matches I was able to get into

1:10 When I played it last night, the exact moment it launched, the Xbox version had 6 official servers. It doesn’t really improve much since it was all still laggy beyond belief, but this kind of makes me question how many people Aspyr actually thought would play this game.

Didn't get it for multi-player. Got it for Galactic Conquest. So I'm good.

as someone who works in the server business, it's literally takes them minutes to increase capacity, it just a cost issue, which as it's a MP game , should already be accounted for esp as they knew demand based on wishlists and pre sales

Yesterday's video I was all like "Bro Ima get this"... glad I didn't yet.

I was playing hero assault and once I died I couldn't respawn, so I had to leave the lobby lol. A lot of players in the lobby had the same problem as well and left.

Honestly if I wanna just play singleplayer stuff I might as well go play the Original, its cheaper too now on steam!

Multiplayer for the old 2004 version on steam still works fine.

I got it on PS5 and I was able to get into a few games. My main issue with the game is that while the player count has increased, tickets have not. Games only last a few minutes.

I consider myself lucky because the game runs like a charm for me. Even the multiplayer. I have a stable 250fps. I wish they would fix all the issues others have. My only complaints are: - The lack of invert Y axis option - Buggy audio. Some are slowed down, pitched down, delayed... etc. - The 62 fucking gigabyte space it needs. That is the same as Elden Ring and more than the Witcher 3 for comparison.

Within 15-30 minutes of release (9 PM PST which was midnight for EST) They sent about 2 to 3 updates 2 short ones and the 3rd one was an update of 20-30gb

I was playing a little bit last night after a vigor and black ops 2 session and was laughing at matches lasting a grand total of 4 minutes. I played both games on the xbox in the mid-2000s and remember more long and exciting matches.

Companies think that these older games aren't worth it and that nobody plays them but almost every game has some cult following of adults wanting to relive the experience. I believe that this is the Age of Remasters, the perfect time for Older games to be remade with great graphics and even changed a bit to make them perfect. Capcom has the right idea! 💡

My big thing is look inversion. I play inverted and for the original games to have that feature but the re-release doesnt is super annoying. My experience with the multiplayer was that I shot an AI rebel in the back 20 times and 2 registered. Waiting on the quality of life updates that hopefully come in the next 24 hours. If not then i made sure to play less than 1 hour in case of a refund situation.

Honestly didn't even get as far as playing an online match because I couldn't finish the tutorial without inverted aiming.

Got this on PS5, and there is no option in the menus to invert the Y axis. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me, I can't play it with the default settings. Really a bummer.

Fix the servers, add console crossplay, fix the crashing on consoles and for some weird fucking reason make the aspyr servers have aim assist (on console) cuz without it the games shooting is ass maybe if PC can crossplay ever happens with console than have those servers with aim assist turned off other than that games perfectly fine imo I got what I wanted and am happy

There were 8 dedicated servers on BF2 last night. No issues with lag or hit reg or anything, everyone is just copy-pasting the 1st hour issues.

Seeing how they screwed up the controller settings by not including inverted controls I’m not surprised by the lack of servers. Inverted controls are totally missing from both 1 & 2. This is unacceptable for a game that old and it’s 2024. Unfortunately devs don’t give a crap about the players or they would include this from the start, but I’m finding more and more that do a half ass job on control options and that’s sad.

I'm having an issue with splitscreen on the Switch version: it just says "Please Insert Controller" for player 2, even when I have two controllers paired to the console. Does anyone know why this is? Do both players need to have a Nintendo Online account even for offlline splitscreen play? It's breaking my heart since the whole reason I bought this game was to introduce my friends to classic Battlefront.

I tried multiplayer last night and my game would crash ,lag freeze at 1 during the respawn countdown .today I played solo game of conquest and all the audio cut out and had to restart application then tried online game and the screen turned green and the game actually turned off my playstation on its own

Honestly this is exactly how I remember the game felt back in 2005. Big chaotic laggy matches but we had nothing better at the time so it was the best. My all time favorite is Battlefield 2142 it was released a year later but I remember like it was so much better than Battlefront.

Was looking for a comment who said it but I didn’t see one. They only had like 6-9 official severs listed for BF1 and BF2. (Didn’t go back and count them) The rest all look like hosted matches that you could join. which explains why there were only two people playing on most. Someone hosting to play with a friend or two. So there still aren’t a lot of official servers but they doubled the amount or more so there’s that lol.

I know it’s 20 years old, but I could have told the Dev’s this was the best Battlefront and by word of mouth alone this would have sold copies - depending on if they’d hadn’t bought the originals already as these both arrived on Xbox a couple years ago with Backwards Compatibility.

Aspyr seemed to have rushed re-releasing this game and didn't quite finishing squashing the existing bugs before release.

Just play modern battlefront 2, game still holds up and fun as hell.

tbh they probably thought (and rightfully so) that the pull for this would die off by like 95% after the first week of nostalgia dies down, but I dunno why they didn't just hire a bunch of servers on a weekly basis and then cull them as the usercount dies.

I bought the game for single player couse that’s what I did as a kid was play that. Instant action and the campaign was all I played. I’ve had fun playing instant action but until they fix the cutscene problem I’m not playing the campaign.

My friend bought it for us to play and he's always been an only inverted player, thus cannot play it.

I bought the game cause i was excited to play through the campaigns again, i didnt get to play multiplayer when the original game was out so i had some interest in it but it wasnt why i got the game, its disappointing that its had such a poor launch for multiplayer, i still havent had a chance to really play any of it yet but i hope they fix things soon.

I’ve seen people mostly on TikTok saying that what else should we have expected for a 15+ year old game. Like bro the age of the game has nothing to do with the lack of servers!!

Fortunately, all the good memories I have of the classic Battlefront games consist of the single player content; I never really got into the online multiplayer side of it and will purchase the classic collection purely for the single player modes. Knowing that the online gameplay is broken just saves me the trouble of testing it myself.

I logged thousands of hours on the original SWBF2 on PC. I don't think people remember how 'broken' the original game was. I could go on an on with specifics. But that's what made the game special and gave it a challenging skill ceiling especially at the competitive level. 8:56 happened all the time in the original. The original couldn't handle when a mine detonated in a high traffic area in online.. the game would freak out just like that. We just learned to deal with it back then.. After 20 years of multiplayer 'improvement' in the gaming industry.. its a lot more obvious now.. but like its stated.. this isn't a remaster.. so they didn't actually fix a lot of the issues that were there from the very very beginning.

Even offline, the games have a ton of weird visual and audio bugs. My biggest complaint is the aiming feeling totally wrong in both games. BF1 auto-aim is way too agressive and sensitivity in both is way out of wack. Doesn’t play like the original games at all and it’s sad new players will think the games always felt this clunky.
