This is a re-upload to correct an issue with missing footage in mission 04 (Research Facility) - thanks to the eagle-eyed viewer who spotted the problem :)
A complete playthrough of LucasArts excellent Star Wars FPS from 1995. I played the game on hard mode, which dramatically increases the numbers of enemies you face in each mission. I also made sure to get all possible secrets in each mission.
Captured using DosBox and Dxtory, with Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 MIDI music.

Is there a single moment in this where you lose health or shields? I want to know what the visual effects are. I think it flashes green when you lose shields as well as when you gain them but red when you lose health. Can you confirm? I'm making a game really inspired by this for 2D on mobile and want to emulate some of the effects as I remember them being effective

It`s always Doom or Duke Nuk'em 3D what got praised and get's attention, but Star Wars: Dark Forces was as great as the other 90's top fps games and played very often at LAN partys. It shouldn`t be forgotten.

Imperial Enemies: *"Stop Rebel scum!"* *"You're not authorized in this area!"* *"Surrender immediately!"* *"Set blasters on full!"* *"There he is stop him!"* *"Blast him!"* *"Halt!"* I love all the added flavor and the excellent sound design in this game. The sounds of the guns and effects are awesome, the voice chatter and sounds from enemies are great, the final boss has an actual personality to them and you can hear their overconfident laugh during the final battle to try giving you the nervous jitters in your chest, Kyle Katarn has a great voice actor, and we even get to see Kyle Katarn tell Jabba the Hutt to go fuck himself even with the looming threat of being fed to ferocious Kell Dragons. Just all around brilliant. Many other aspects of the game are great too. We see familiar faces such as Mon Mothma, Crix Madine, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Vader, and even a brief cameo from Boba Fett as a boss. We see events tying Kyle Katarn to events and themes of the original trilogy movies, and its great. Dark Troopers would even make an appearance in later LucasArts games, such as Star Wars: Rebellion, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Star Wars: Battlefront (the original one). As far as I'm concerned, Dark Forces is a canon story in the Star Wars universe. In my opinion from a gameplay perspective it outclasses more popular FPS games of its time like Doom and Duke Nukem, which are more just about playing a badass of different flavors with some mindless run and gun type gameplay making a bloody mess of enemies. And there's nothing wrong with games like those, but Dark Forces is definitely a much better challenge, is more engaging with strategy and decision making to complete the missions, and is more interesting to decide what weapons to use with the 3D nature behind the level design of many levels (tossing thermal detonators down to a lower elevation for example). And Mission 05 Gromas Mines probably had the scariest enemy I have ever encountered with the Phase 1 Dark Trooper at the end, scarier than Doom, Dead Space, System Shock 2, or games labeled as being in the horror genre.

Thanks for the upload, this brings back a lot of memories 😊 anyways, i have a question to you & for anyone who sees this comment too, I’ve been trying to find this specific FPS game i believed was released in the 90s too, so the game is kinda similar to these one but the enemies are all robots & machines & whenever you die on the game like falling or getting shot to death your character shouts with a very agonizing pain, like it will startle you every time. hoping to get answers because i’ve been trying to find that game for awhile.

I modified the controls using the game's setup tool. I rebound movement to WASD and changed the S an D to strafe left/right instead of turning. The game supports horizontal mouse-look, so I used that for aiming, but it can't do vertical aiming, so I had to use the default page-up/page-up keys for those.

Imagine the intelligence officers reporting this back to Palpatine. What is the Emperor to make of this? One dude basically single handily and systematically destroys the Dark Trooper project and wipes out all said Dark Troopers in his way like they are nothing. Imperial research bases and detention facilities made a mockery of. Half the galaxies criminal underworld wiped off the map. Dude waltzes into the centre of Imperial Intelligence on freaking Coruscant and calmly walks out with the plans. Ices Boba Fett. Not even a Jedi mind you! A large part of the Imperial military just gunned down, with no discrimination between human and droid alike. Guns down everyone on board the Arc Hammer terminator style including the general running the project - blows the place to smithereens. Unconfirmed but troubling reports that on rare occasion this lone rebel commando is finally gunned down, only to resurrect and continue his killing spree. To top it off, uncovers all of Palpatine's secret stashes, hidden items and weapon caches. You would just surrender at this point. KYLE KATARN - THE IMPERIAL SLAYER.
