It’s probably like some other games, where characters can die, and you create your own story, but there is a cannon ending to it, that way it fits in the lore

I don't know if you've actually played Detroit: Become Human, but what she describes (no game over screen, any character can die) is literally how it works in Detroit too, even the main characters you play as can die at almost any point in the game and the story just continues without them. In most games if you fail at a task, say it's a shoot out and the main playable character gets shot, you get game over screen and it resets you back to the last save file and that continues until you can beat the level. But in Detroit if you fail the level and your character gets shot that's it, that character dies and you never get them back on that playthrough of the game. I found it to be an incredibly impactful way of making the player FEEL something in response to the game. In my playthrough of Detroit the particular set of characters I was most invested in died well before the end of the game and I really felt the impact of that scene because it was my fault they died that early, my choices directly led to that happening, and I felt genuine guilt at not "taking care" of those characters better; it shocked me in a way I've not really experienced in any other game.

Playing multiple characters where any of them can die is kind of their wheelhouse. Heavy Rain even featured segments where you investigate what happens to other characters you play if they die. The fact that they're talking about this means they probably have a whiteboard of potential storylines at least, so I'm less concerned about the whole project being a smokescreen. If they deliver a good proof of concept, I think the chance of this game actually happening are surprisingly high.

The trailer was so dope I hope it lives up to its expectations

KOTOR had multiple endings but there is an ending that is universally considered cannon (when it was cannon). This isn't much of a hurdle and really won't confuse the fanbase because we've had situations like this.

Im fine with it not being canon and allowing us to do what we want. Not all the games need to be canon, its limiting. Games are the perfect way to allow us to experience the universe without narrative. We have Jedi Survivor and Im sure more to come for the canon, Im good with this being open format.

Small correction: Force Unleased was NEVER canon. Even before Disney. Becuase of how ridiculously powerfull Starkiller was and few other event discrepensy that existed at that time, the series was not treated as canon, especially when FOrce Unleased II released, at that point non-canonicity of that series was officially announced. As for the Eclipse, the thing about everyone could die actually makes sence, since this game takes place few hundread ears befor Episode I, these characters would have their own story, but their actions will not affect anything related to Prequels, besides existence of Master Yoda.

I think the fact that there is no realease date is actually a really good descision. It lets them properly flesh out absolutely everything they can without making any promises or any timeline guarantees

I'm nervous. If you believe quantic dream's reputation they don't really do "gameplay" games, more movies where you have to press a button every now and then, and that has multiple endings. They say there'll be a focus on action adventure gameplay, but that could just as easily be cutscenes that have action in them, or even quick time events. I guess time will tell.

With all the hype around this game just hope it doesn’t turn into another cyberpunk game. They need to just take their time and make it right the first time, no bug fixes or anything like that after it’s release , may the force be with them all and you as well peace ✌🏼.

Yeah this game looks phenomenal 😮 another good game to grind and explore the vast galaxy they build. This reminds of cyberpunk’s hype train I hope it’s on par with that in sense of the atmosphere of characters, worlds, and choices.

It might be like Kotor where there are meny different disitions you can make with some of them not rilly madering in the grand sceam of things but the major disitions like the light and dark side endings as well as which charters live have a canon outcome but you can still play the noncanon if you wish.

The no game over thing isn't all that hard to grasp if you've played their other games. Detroit is the same deal with multiple playable characters who can die and it just changes the narrative to the story if they do. Even if everyone dies the game finishes the narrative and the game ends. You've effectively beaten the game in the worst way, not gotten a game over. Or in other words, semantics to make the game sound more innovative than it is. In terms of canon, probably whatever has the good guys win and everyone live. It tends to be obvious whats meant to be the true ending in games like this. Like deathwish in GTA 5.

Im not too worried about the multiple endings. KOTOR had multiple endings but the old EU books gave us "canon" ending.

There have been plenty of games that have multiple endings but usually only one ending as canon. KOTOR 1 and 2 are great examples of Star Wars games that do this.

I love the High Republic, so I'm excited for that element of it, and very glad they're not doing their normal gameplay style. But I've only played one of their games, Heavy Rain, and I thought it was really, really poor. I know other people like it, but it was really not to my taste, so that gives me pause about this. And to be honest, even though I loved KOTOR, I've gone off the idea of branching narratives for Star Wars - I would rather they have very linear games and protect the canon by only producing really good, clean stories. I don't need there to be a canon ending and a load of legends endings.

Given the track record for games like this, I won't believe it until it's installed on my console or PC and I'm playing it. We got lucky with the Cal Kestis games.

It would be very easy to make all of the endings just not have any impact on the greater story as a whole. Especially in a franchase that spans an entire galaxy. Its not that complicated to compartmentalize a story in the star wars universe

Didn’t kotor have multiple endings as well I have never played but I know it’s legends content now not sure why though I hope they can explore more of the old republic in the future honestly at this point I think they have done enough with the other eras we need something new in my opinion but also maybe break the barriers of what is canon and what isn’t and just be Star Wars I know legends conflicts with canon but I hope they can make it all fit cause I have heard good things from legends

If you want to make a game, you first make a trailer; it's normal, I would say it a basic marketing. It allows you to gather investors, hire staff, get money to invest in your project, and make the game. It's a very expensive project, spread over many years. Only the richest studios can afford to make a trailer and show it at the end just before the release of the game. I guess studios with smaller budgets have to first make a trailer to get money and, then start work on it, just to make an in-game trailer when they really have a game.

Bro any Star Wars game or any game based of any franchise for that matter, doesn’t have to follow the canon. If it’s heavily story driven and there are cutscenes and a specific story to tel then sure would make sense to coincide with canon. If you make your own adventure in the game then no it doesn’t have to follow the canon, because at that point it’s about making your OWN adventure in the star wars universe, not experiencing someone else’s. And that’s honestly the coolest idea from that. Something Star Wars that I wouldn’t maybe expect. Oh and btw it literally doesn’t matter if hat Disney says ever about Star Wars. The Star Wars franchise canon dies with George Lucas and nothing that Disney has produced or spoken about in regards to the franchise matter whatsoever. They are making a completely different spinoff and I refuse even consider Star Wars and the heaps of trash that Disney produces to be of the same caliber, in the same timeline, or even in the same creative universe. The Star Wars stories we know and love were made by George Lucas. The petty excuse for Star Wars we have now is a cheap money grab and undermines everything that preceded it. It’s actually atrocious to see what Disney has done to Star Wars
