The First Battle of Geonosis, also referred to as the Battle of Geonosis, was the first major battle fought in 22 BBY between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic on Geonosis, marking the beginning of the three-year Clone Wars. It would be the first major combat of the Grand Army of the Republic, as well as the first major battle the Jedi had fought in years. The battle also caused the death of the notorious bounty hunter Jango Fett and the discovery of Count Dooku's dark side allegiance.

Indeed. Dooku and Sidious both had their hands in the creation of not just a Clone Army, but a position that would force the Jedi, especially, and the Republic into accepting the army in a way that would leave them stuck with them.

In Legends and probably still canon...thats the reason that Republic had massive casualities on Geonosis (which helped CIS to quickly take over so many planets and systems early in war)...the Jedi werent skilled generals at that moment and made many tactical mistakes, sending to death many clones but also clone commandos that were most of the time sent too deep without reinforcements...even tho they surprised Separatists with this swift attack, Republic won only because of numbers and firepower

I've said it to many others, the prequels CGI actually holds up astoundingly well for being 20 or so years old. I know there are some characters/scenes where it's clearly aged, but there are other shots that are BEAUTIFUL. I rewatch these movies a couple times a year and rarely feel like the CGI takes me out of it, if ever. Battle of Geonosis in this movie and the Battle over Coruscant come to mind as battles that look incredible.

2:10 even as a kid, I noticed that Dooku didn’t sound that worried when he is wondering how they came up with the clone army so quickly. I thought it was kinda part of the bad acting but of course once he meets Sidious on Courascant, it made sense. He was acting for the Separatists since he pretty much helped make them and he is watching Sidious’ pawns on both fight each other out.

2:43 you can almost believe that Commander Ponds was smiling underneath his helmet as he addressed Windu about his "five special commando units". Both of those clones were probably quite excited to finally serve underneath the famed Jedi and were eager to follow their lead. The closest thing we get is planes airdropping light tanks. The Sheridan was designed specifically for that, as was the Russian 2S25. I think the greatest aspect of this scene is how much detail was put into all the minor elements of the battle. From the rockets on the clone gunship cycling as it takes off, anti aircraft ordinance whizzing past the ships all the while. Hell even the the gunships dropping the at te’s only to be destroyed immediately is so intense. The cgi for back then was fantastic.

What I like the most about this scene is that whereas many criticized it for being a standard issue Hollywood tactics farce the Jedi’s poor performance as generals closely mirrors what happened in real life when countries like the US joined a war without much recent military experience and relied on a few mavericks (like Patton) surrounded by a lot of Fredendalls.

During the naval war in the Pacific between Japan and USA during WW2, you can see a distinct difference in the performances of both navies throughout the war. USN performed more poorly early in the war as they tried to gain experience and weed out the bad officers. IJN's performance got worse over time as they gradually lost experienced officers, sailors, and naval aviators. Very interesting to study. As far as Star Wars lore goes, the Jedi being bad military commanders makes sense. Given the extreme number of unnecessary clone casualties caused the recklessness & inexperience of the Jedi, sometimes it feels surprising that they would even need the inhibitor chips to mutiny against the Jedi. Chalk that up to the clones being conditioned to be more obedient to command, I suppose.

Knowing what I know now the Clones thought that the Jedi would create a strategy for the assault and use the terrain to their advantage. Instead the Jedi made it into a slug fest with no planning or strategy on either side until the very end of the battle. This is actually why many of the Clones actually came to hate a lot of the Jedi. The few exceptions were Anakin, Obi-Wan, Plo-Koon and a few others who actually used good strategies and cared about the Clones. Interestingly enough most of the Jedi saw the Clones as Battle Droids. Disposable and a resource on the field not a person. Kind of like General Krell, but Krell was noted to be worse than other Jedi in his tactics and callus nature towards the Clones. Many Clones actually hoped they would be assigned to the Jedi who had good strategies. Mostly Anakin and the 501st. Cause if you watch the Clone Wars and observe Anakins strategies with the Clones under him, glancing over the fact that they are usually war crimes, his strategies aren't always head on confrontations. They are sneaky and efficient. While he does lose Clones in battle his strategies limit this loss.
