It was so wonderful to hear his wonderful voice again! It was a brilliant casting choice. Now the legendary actors who brought Dracula and Van Helsing to life for Hammer Studios were reunited in _Star Wars._ Who would have thought? Both had pretty spectacular death scenes. How many people get to say they were beheaded by Anakin Skywalker, and using Dooku’s own lightsaber to do it?

Prequel hate Vs prequel love: I love the prequels as a man who saw the first Star Wars at a drive in in 77 i love these movies more and more as time goes on,a Friend of mine summed it up best regarding people who hate the prequels. "The Movies did not change,THEY DID!." and he is right as we entered a global system that grows more and more corrupt each day many of us became critical each day,hardened by the world. but in truth these movies are the flip side of a very big coin and very different but the preqs. set up the middle trilogy that we all love in a very very good way! and i am very very thankful to George of completing this wonderful backstory,is it slow sometimes? yes! is their to many things on screen sometimes? yes! are their some things that seemed very funny to George but were a painful distraction for the audience? yes! as if a kid with a new toy went a little far in places with all the CGI but these things pale in comparison to an overall great story. I do not watch Star Wars as a critical adult.I let go completley and see it through the eyes of an 8 year old boy who was transported to a galaxy far far Away. and i feel sorry for the haters who cannot let go and be a kid and experience the wonder and majesty that are "All of these movies." and that includes 1-3.

Along with Revenge of Sith, Attack of the Clones is not only one of the best Star Wars movies it’s also one of the last great examples of American cinema. Remember watching these DVD featurettes back when I was in Film School. Lucas is arguably the greatest Film maker of all time, certainly the greatest American writer/director. I always thought of Clones as a sortve Rebel without a cause set in space and is a great testament to the Old Hollywood Lucas grew up watching.

@hamdog5441 Жыл бұрын
@@Pascal5207_ This is coming from someone who genuinely likes and has respect for Lucas. He and Spielberg were artists who made some of my favourite films as a kid/teen and that I still love today. They changed modern hollywood forever. Unfortunately essentially every point he made is wrong. Attack of the clones the best of Star Wars? Lucas the greatest fimmaker of all time? Around half of critics and audiences viewed the prequels negatively according to IMDB, Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, while the original trilogy was universally loved, and almost universally enjoyed by audiences and critics, respectively. So clearly the majority of people disagree that Ep II and Ep III are great or "some of the best" Star Wars films. I could could leave a 1000 word comment on the inferiority of the prequels, especially compared to the originals, in terms of dialogue, characterisation, narrative structure, pacing, etc; but ill leave it at that. So saying the prequels are some of the last great American cinema... please. I could name 25 much greater, universally acclaimed US films after the prequels off the top of my head, some of which they actually show in film schools. As for being the greatest American writer-director, let alone arguable best international filmaker ever; Lucas has made 3 critically acclaimed films himself, THX 1138, American graffiti and Ep IV. While he's definitely proven himself a great filmmaker in his early career, his other films lower his status somewhat. Meanwhile filmmakers like Kubrick, Scorsese, Tarantino, Nolan (ik not American) and i could continue, have each made at a minimum 3 times more films which were critically acclaimed as Lucas made. Nobody who seriously understands Cinema could argue Lucas is greater than these 4, let alone probably another 10 atleast. I'm not attacking you at all so I hope it didn't appear that way, but what the original poster said is just completely false.

Can’t imagine how hard it must for George to have been to have everyone hate Episode 1 and 2. Yet he still went through with his Vision
@mikenadj.j4355 Жыл бұрын
I think it was hard after he finished them and years later all the hateful reviews and them assaulting his character is what ultimately hurt the most and was part of the reason he sold. He knew going in that the OT fans wouldn’t like Episode 1 and 2 so he wasn’t surprised by the result. The episode 2 script was named “Jar Jar’s Great Adventure” as a jab at people taking this stuff way too seriously, getting their feelings hurt by a harmless slapstick comedy character for children.

I love how people say the original trilogy is better because they have nostalgia glasses. They are the same. If you search for a good plot in a SW movie, you're better off finding a love story in Twilight. They're all blockbusters, and if anything, acting is improved in the prequels, because of the simple fact that hollywood acting evolved massively since the 70-80's

I think the story of the prequels is rather good, it was just the execution that felt a bit off. Too reliant on CGI, actors not giving quite the best performance, some dialogue that could have used a second look. The overall story I enjoyed, I think some other elements just needed tweaking to help the movies flow more smoothly.

The love story between Anakin and Padme is so corny? The dialogs? Oh, and the one between Han Solo and Leia in "The Empire Strikes Back" are not? Compare the dialogue. There are worse things. Don't get me wrong: "The Empire Strikes Back" isn't bad. But I think it's unfair to attack the love story in the episode. 2 so violently. It's not like, as if the old movies have been perfectly flawless.
@jebkush10528 жыл бұрын
But at least Han & Leia had chemistry. Also, ESB didn't try to make a whole storyline about a boring romance.
@samlerf8 жыл бұрын
Chemistry is relative. Besides, the love-story between Anakin and Padmè (Like it or not) at least has SOME built-up. Where the hell did the the attraction between Hand and Leia come from? And in how many scenes did they have, you know, conversations (Simple arguments don't count)? What does she love about Han? Sure, that he came to help Luke was noble - but that happened 3 years before Episode 5. Basicly She likes him becouse he's hot? Yeah, definitly a fantastic romance. The Prequels are deeper than people think. If only they would read their official backstory-Novels. Cloak of Deception - backstory of the phantom menace: The Approaching Storm - backstory of attack of the clones: Labyrinth of Evil - backstory of Revenge of the Sith: And last but not least: Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader - Sequel to Revenge of the Sith:

But that doesn't mean the prequels are worse than them. Apart from them having more flashy action, instead of having more "Oooh" moments, they are the same. +HenryJonesVictor The parts of this story: Powerful groups are threatening to secede from the Republic. A mystery surrounding Padme's assassination attempt, possibly because of her opposition to the Military Creation Act. A clone army suddenly becomes available out of nowhere right when the Republic is on the brink of civil war. A love story. Why were the separatists seceding and why should I care? This is never clearly explained. I guess Dooku was behind the assassination attempt... so he wanted the Military Creation Act to pass... and he was being directed by Palpatine... so Palpatine wanted a military... but the act wasn't actually passed and they got a military anyway... but Palpatine suggests that Padme would have supported him getting emergency powers and acted like she was necessary... so I guess Padme was against the Military Creation Act but she would have voted in favor of giving him powers to lead the army they just got... but maybe he was lying when he suggests Padme would have supported him... but maybe Palpatine was aware of the Clone army because Jango was the base of the clones, and he was hired by Dooku who's controlled by Palpatine... so Palpatine was aware of the Clone Army and that the Military Creation Act was unnecessary and he was having Padme killed even though he thought Padme was necessary to get emergency powers... though maybe he knew that someone else would help him and he didn't need Padme... but maybe he knew he didn't needed her to get emergency powers and he knew the assassination attempt would be traced to Dooku... and he wouldn't appear like he was connected with a person who hired an assassin to assassinate someone whom he needed to get his emergency powers... and maybe Palpatine was behind the Clone army, even though the Prime Minister of Kamino said it was a leading member of the Jedi Council who requested the clones... a member who's not mentioned before or ever again and whose name sounds eerily close to Sidious, (which was more or less the name in the original script)... but maybe it was a complete coincidence that Jango was the genetic model of the clones and the would-be assassin of Padme... and it's not entirely clear in the movie who hired Jango to assassinate Padme. Basically, no part of the movie's plot makes any sense, and despite almost nothing going according to to Palpatine's plan, like in The Phantom Menace, he got everything he wanted, also like in The Phantom Menace. The Clone Army was just requested by one of the member of the Jedi Council and he just didn't tell anyone. Jango is the genetic model for the clones, but that's not explained either. In a previous draft of the script, it's made clear that it wasn't a Jedi who requested the clones and that the person who requested it was named "Sido-Dyas." The love story fucking sucks, lol.

***** No, you actually don´t get any of it, and none of your questions makes much sense. Palpatine basically wanted to create turmoil in the republic, so that people would eventually grant him more and more powers. He certainly didn´t care who would vote for him as chancellor, or for the creation of an army. And he certainly wouldn´t mind some of his enemies being killed in the process. For example he would hardly have mourned the death of Anakin had he been been killed by Count Dooku. His plan wasn´t about the details, but more about the grand scheme of things.

Who is to say that nostalgia represents a problem for a constructive criticism anyway? Anakin is the passionate one and Padme is the one who maintains they can't be together. This might have made sense in some version of this story, (in the novelization, maybe), or in a previous draft of the script, but it really doesn't here. We aren't given any indication of why a Senator would be unable to have romance despite her love for Anakin, and Anakin barely ever seems remotely restrained. The closest he comes to restraint was when he was voicing his rationalizing of his his feelings and equating love with compassion, even though he said two sentences earlier it would have to be a love without attachment, which seems like a contradiction because he was talking about not being with the people he love. I guess it's understandable that Anakin doesn't heed his duties at all, (really, some restraint as opposed to none would have been better), but that the writers expected us just to believe that Padme has a reason to believe she can't be with Anakin because she's a senator is somewhat insulting. It's also bothersome that it almost feels like the writers just forgot about the context of the romance and made Anakin the passionate and Padme the restrained when the context should have demanded the roles were switched. I guess George wanted Anakin, (the man), to be passionate and Padme, (the woman), to be inhibited, even though it didn't make sense within the story at that point.
@OrtegaSeason8 жыл бұрын
+Herb Sewell I agree, the roles should have been reversed. The fact that Anakin has been in Jedi training for 10 years should be more obvious in his behaviour, and especially in the way he related to her. He should have been more stoic and restrained. Ironically, in the Clone Wars tv series you see that she did have other relationships before Anakin, and their relationship in general is much more relatable and human.
@Manx1238 жыл бұрын
DeCipher How explicit do they get in the show that she was fucking people on the side when Anakin was training as a Padawan?
@OrtegaSeason8 жыл бұрын
***** I only remember it specifically in the episode "Senate Spy" (which is actually an homage to Hitchcock's "Notorious"). Obviously they can't get too explicit but there's a lot of ellipses used like "They were ........ good friends". The character that she had a relationship with is reintroduced in season 6 and Anakin nearly beats him to death after he tries to put the moves on Padme.
@Manx1238 жыл бұрын
DeCipher I'm confused. Was the former lover trying to rape her, or did Anakin try to kill someone because he was being cuckolded?
@OrtegaSeason8 жыл бұрын
***** I believe he was just trying to kiss her but being pushy about it. I think Anakin was more worried about being cuckolded. In "Senate Spy" Anakin pretty much leaves him to his death even though he hadn't done anything to hurt her.

It's funny that those who love these prequel films so devotedly think that the only reason folks don't like them is that they're in some kind of sexual bondage with its critics. :) Some kind of sexual frisson in hating films as a collective. Strong identification with ≠ ideological devotion to. The problem is that many folks who have grown up with them (the prequel movies) have done so thinking that's how good films are (Edit: to clarify, I'm one of them). (I feel sorry for the latest generation having to contend with the latest cinematic diarrhea and identifying _that_ with good movie-making.) I have no strong feeling toward such people either way. It's just that I feel sorry for them, and their unfortunate taste in films. That's it. I care for the art form, and, as such, would like to think of my self as more than just 'a drooling idiot who likes lightsabers'. I feel a 'true' devotee would love star wars far too much to merely accept anything made as long as it bares the label; if anything, _that's_ what acting blindly servile toward a perceived authority is.
@Physwe9 жыл бұрын
Hoganply And I feel sorry for you old fools that think something becomes good if you stack enough trite tropes. The original trilogy was so incredibly flawed, yet you somehow manage to trick yourself into thinking the fils you grew up with would be better than the new ones for the sole reason that you are nostalgic for them. It really resembles utter indoctrination, just senselessly adoring something and shunning the successor - basically for being the successor and not the original. It is so childish.
@SabatSch959 жыл бұрын
Hoganply If you think that the original trilogy is "pure art", then you really don't know anything about movies at all. Not saying the OG are bad, or less good than the prequels, but you people fail to see the MANY mistakes the OG Trilogy made, all because you grew up with those movies. You are obviously blinded by nostalgia. And to think that you somehow "know more about art - arthouse films" is incredibly arrogant. The fact that you grew up with the OG doesn't mean you "appreciate" true art more. And to be honest here, none of the Star Wars films are classified as Art House, so there goes your whole argument. For someone who is supposedly from the "previous generation", you sure act immature and close minded..

Hoganply I like aspects of the prequels, Ep 1 and 2 are weaker but still OK. Although Episode 3 is definitely on par with the Originals, if not better. I actually feel sorry for people, rather nostalgic manchildren to be more specific, who go on every prequel video and berate people who like them with long ass essays. Trust me, no one will start hating the Prequels just because you posted your irrelevant opinion on a video, so stop wasting your time. If you don't like something then just keep it to yourself instead of shit talking movies over a decade after their release on the Internet.

Hoganply So ? That wasn't even my point. And btw, *you* were the one who said that the original trilogy is "art" as a reason why it's better than the prequels. And now you say it doesn't matter if one labels something as "pure art" ?! Hypocrite much ?
@Hoganply8 жыл бұрын
MoviezGames Who was it who said you have to think of something as 'pure art' in order to prefer it over something else? Makaveli250 I don't think less of people themselves for liking something I don't like, nor do I intentionally berate them for it. If anything, I envy those who do, since it's three more films they're able to enjoy. Growing up with the prequels myself with the first viewing of each issue in the saga in such close proximity to one another, I have no 'nostalgia' to which to cling, I'm afraid. As a cinephile, I simply express my appreciation for better artistry and storytelling wherever I perceive it. The subjectivity of art is not lost on me. There are prequel haters I dislike as much as I do some prequel lovers too, with things I like about each trilogy. There's no malice or snobbishness here. Fundamentally, I'm not going to censor myself just because some people can't handle criticism toward something they like. Espousing such a practice is asinine. Edit: I never said 'I know more about art' or 'art-house' films, or anything of the kind. I'm partial to a number of 'art-house' films, yes - I'm a fan of many genres - but I certainly don't profess to be an expert in them. I just have experienced a wider spectrum of cinema than some; many folks I interact with I'm not too prejudiced or 'arrogant' enough to automatically dismiss for their 'lack of experience'. I like what I like. That's all that can be said.

I would have cut out the assassination and conspiracy. It's confusing, and makes the Jedi dumb as they just picked a random army they found and didn't question if it might not be loyal. Why not just have Palpatine openly create an army and show more of the war?

Stop bringing this up. You're boring and it's boring. People do not say that the Original Trilogy is better because they have "nostalgia glasses". Your idea of "nostalgia glasses" is just a quick and easy way of dismissing their opinion, which, may I point out, is not believable and does not work. Their thoughts on the films have nothing to do with nostalgia, it has to do with the quality of the story. In the Prequels, from my point of view, the characters are weak and two-dimensional. (>)
