I love his reaction after yoda force pushes him back. He genuinely looks afraid that yoda has the power to beat him. One of the best fights in Star Wars

That laugh by Palpatine at 4:07 is much more than just a laugh. He knew he had won. Not just his fight with Yoda but everything. He was the emperor of the galaxy and there was no one to stop him. Truly the definition of evil.

While watching clones wars I realized the genius of Sidious's plan. He orchestrated a somewhat "fake" war by simultaneously leading it from both sides using the political ladder. Using his dominion of the Sith and Seperatist armies to convince the Senate to help him build the strongest, biggest army in the galaxy, the clone troopers. He not only convinced the Republic that they NEEDED an army of bounty hunter clones, but that the army needed to be BIGGER in order for them to win the war. He used the very fabric of the Jedi code against them and it was easy because the Jedi had such an unwavering boner for peace that they slowly stopped caring how they got it. They created an army so grand that not even the Jedi could fend against it due to their dwindling numbers. And then Sidious used the hypocrisy of the Jedi Order to manipulate and secure allegiance from Anakin, the chosen one, who was their only real hope of preventing the Empire's triumph.

The fact that Palaptine’s first choice was to runaway shows you even he knew he couldn’t take down yoda. Best he could do is find an opening to escape

Palpatine vs Yoda in this scene is literally the culmination of thousands of years of Jedi vs Sith teachings and a literal representation of two opposite sides of the Force battling each other in a show of power and dominance. For those who have dived deep into SW appreciate how beautiful and deeply meaningful the duel between Yoda and Palpatine was

My favourite part of the duel is how the Emperor wrecks the Senate to attack Yoda. To him, the senator platforms are nothing but trash to be taken out.

Something this movie did very, very right is make you feel the weight of this conflict. The fate of the whole galaxy is at stake and you can really tell. This fight is where it's peaks.

3:46 The look on Yoda's face is so terrifyingly dark, it legitimately terrifies the Emperor. Take a look at that scene, from gleeful laughter to terror as Yoda goes from looking like the lightning is wearing him out... then he lashes out.

I love Palpatine, he's so evil it's cartoony and he just revels in combat. Not the deepest character, but most scenes he's in are fun to watch.

Yoda did not disgrace himself in this duel at all. Initially he was outfoxing and frustrating Palaptine during their lightsaber combat and more than held his own with the force against the sheer barrage of dark side energy that the Emperor was throwing at him. I mean to be able to deflect Palaptine's force lightning with his bare hands and still have enough power and determination to blast back is mighty impressive. Ultimately Yoda lost due to losing his weapon, positioning and ultimately realising that the Jedi were now almost irretrievably on the back foot now that the Empire had risen..

2:40 is my new favorite scene in the saga. I forgot which video gave this thought to me, but this is Palpatine's moment. He's THE Phantom Menace, he's been waiting for so long for this moment, not only to clap Yoda, but to take control of the galaxy to become one of, if not the most powerful being in the galaxy. Duel of the Fates cements this, as a call back to TPM, to remind you who the real Phantom Menace is. I can never see this scene the same again, and it's amazing

People ask me my favorite star wars scene ever, and I make no apologies for 2:20. It tops the list for me.

A fucking masterpiece.

At the beginning you can tell after being blasted across the room by Yoda’s force push that Palpatine realized how powerful Yoda truly was and he knew he was a huge threat to defeat him. Which is why he attempted to flee and avoid the fight altogether. If Yoda would’ve have defeated him here I believe it definitely would have changed things and I think palpatine recognized this which is why he tried flee and survive. Hypothetically after killing palpatine, Yoda could have rejoined up with Obi Wan and they could have went after Vader together although Yoda would have been more than enough to handle Vader on his own at this point.

Who is still watching this masterpiece in 2024?

This fight was more then just 2 individuals, it was the physical representation of the two halves of the force colliding. You had the Grand Master of the Jedi vs THE Dark Lord of the Sith. Good vs evil. Both of them were well aged but as the saying goes, "Be wary of old men, in a profession where men die young." Yoda quite possibly the most powerful Jedi ever and because of how Darth Bane set up the Rule of Two the hyper focused training on one apprentice for 1,00 years culminated in Palpatine benefiting not only from that training but all the knowledge he acquired from countless Sith artefacts which not only taught him force powers but Sith magic as well. There was no one else more powerful then they were at that time. The most powerful Jedi ever confronts the most powerful Sith ever. Yet even for how powerful Palpatine was. . . .he was still afraid of Yoda. I don't understand why he tried to run, well I DO but when he fought and stood his ground he actually matched Yoda, or so it seemed. So if he was able to stand up to Yoda why was he running? Everything he did though failed to thwart the Grand Master. What I love best is how Yoda's extreme knowledge of the force prevails over Palpatines raw talent and power. He's just mindlessly throwing as many senate pods at Yoda as possible but Yoda catches one and rotates it, this is because even the most skilled manipulators of the force need a stable object to bend it to their will. By making it rotate so fast Palpatine couldn't stop it or control it and forced him from his advantageous position and allowed Yoda to get closer. This fight was more than just physical, both opponents were trying to find a way to exert the extent of their knowledge on using the force to best the other. This is why the prequels were so much better then the dumpster fire sequel trilogy.

Really shows how powerful Sidious was compared to Tyranus. Yoda was able to easily bounce back lighting shot from Tyranus with one hand, and Yoda here was barely able to bounce it back with two hands when dealing with Sidious.

I’m a man of few talents but one of them I absolutely ace is the impersonation of Darth Sideous.

I always loved how Darth Sidious had 2 lightsabers in the anime series which explains him losing the one earlier and still having one now
