Jeez, watching this after seeing a half remembered second season episode REALLY emphesises the massive tonal shift between seasons. This one seems way less pandering to kids. I remember a couple of episodes scaring me as a kid, specifically the one with the forest fire. But I always loved this one.

This is far better than any of Disney put out. I haven’t The Mandalorian yet and I refuse to see it. I was burned out by the sequel trilogy. And after what they did to Luke Skywalker I can never revisit the franchise ever again.

ComicPhreak, I can see that. :) I think it all depends on what you liked as a child, what kind of characters you were identifying with and so on, I think. While I like all the Ewok children, I couldn't identify with pre-designed heroes and princesses, at any given point. Luckily, this is the only cartoon where the weird kid is actually smart and has more redeeming qualities than the rest of the young characters combined; not to mention challenging some gender stereotypes according to which a male character implied to be straight would never be that gentle, caring about small children and elderly people. I thought that was impressive when I was seven, I still think so at 31.

I remember watching this episode when I was younger and growing up I always thought it was a movie... I wanted to buy it for my kids and I can't even find them :( and I found out it's a show and not a movie lol my childhood is a lie

Well they sometimes put groups of episodes on tapes back then so maybe you saw the tape as a child and though it was a movie.

Same here. I'm 30 years old and had this as a VHS tape when I was like 5 years old or younger. Never knew it was a whole series, and never thought I'd see this again lol

The demise of Morag always stuck with me. It was quite a dark finale, especially when she becomes lava and burns the trees in her wrath. I grew up with The Care Bears Movie and I think the voice of Morag, Jackie Burroughs, voiced The Spirit as well. She must have been popular at Nelvana at the time. I remember distinctly that the next season's quality in animation dipped immensely and that they didnt have a villian quite as epic as Morag. I remember the final episode Malani the Warrior being a very disappointing end to the series.

I can quote every word of this. I was about 13 when it aired on BBC1 and I videoed the whole season (The less said about the 2nd season the better) It's so strange to hear it all again, the better part of forty years just fall away.

rw:i used to remember back in the 90s owning 2 VHS tapes and watched them both of EWOKS and DROIDS but both were named differently EWOKS THE HAUNTED VILLAGE which was like a full series of parts of some episodes all put together and DROIDS THE PIRATE AND THE PRINCE for which also had the same concept ,but both of the tapes didnt have all the episodes that i had no idea of ,also when Morag the togawitch disguised herself as a "Rendi " for what wickette said in this scene thats when i learned for what the word Deception meant for which kinda frightened me when i was a kid ,but somehow that same bait and trap idea was also from another spinoff movie called EWOKS THE BATTLE FOR ENDOR for which another Female woman tricked a young girl the same way Morag did to the ewoks (Fast forward the trailer at 0:45 and you'll see what i mean ) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pt-mncaQl5a8oIU.html ,talk about a old comparison,and just to set the record straight ive seen this one on homevideo and this one started with the story when chief chirpa was telling the story , but the next scene did not continue after he told the story,like that cause this part started when tibo wanted to be Master Logray 's apprentice and it was the last part of the vhs tape which was almost like a final part in the movie.i know this may sound weird but that was how it was back then and it didnt show the title for the episode either it only had the title on the vhs cover saying EWOKS AND THE HAUNTED VILLAGE.

All things in Star Wars work with the force. Magic is just a primitive cultures way to explain the force. Even some space-fairing species still use force based magics like the Dathomir Nightsisters we saw in Clone Wars. So the force is magic always has been.

I was just thinking about this, I think the crystals are each some kind of nexus or "focal point" for the Light and Dark sides of the Force.
