I like how the Luke's Twin Suns and Anakin's Twin Suns contrast with one another. Luke looks up at the Twin Suns symbolizing the beginning of his Hero's Journey. Anakin looks away from the suns, symbolizing the beginning of his fall to villain.

The rising tenor tones of the music, the shots, the dark feeling, god damn this scene is golden. It shows Lucas isn’t a bad director. He knows what he’s doing. He knows how to foreshadow. He knows how to work with Williams and the music. He knows how to create an impactful moment.

Yes! Someone else noticed as well.. it's a perfectly deliberate sequence. Williams' Score just punctuates it. One of the best moments of episode II and the prequels in general. Especially the shot with the backdrop of the binary suns on Tattooine. The music helps set it up to where this will culminate to a huge defining moment in the life of Anakin Skywalker. There's heroism and foreboding here..

As much as I cringe when watching Anakin in AotC, I can’t help but feel that was the purpose. He’s extremely talented but extremely inexperienced, as well. Of course that would result in some entitlement that amounts to whining. Had he been calm, collected and controlled about his feelings, we wouldn’t believe he eventually would become Darth Vader.

Tell me, just out of curiosity, how would you react if you did everything you could to save someone you love and in the end they die? All the work and all the things Anakin went through to save Padme and in the end he killed her. And to address the point of anakin being a whiny bitch, in this film he wasn't at all.

That's justified whining. The council used him to spy on Palpatine. Also, after all the things he's done and all the things we saw him do in the clone wars, how wasn't he an official "master"? The whining about sand is something i dont like, but this whining fits the character and the story. At the end, when he's Vader he believes and still does believe until the moment he saved Luke that the Jedi betrayed him.

+Ethan Ricks I'd also add that I think the scene with him looking up at the star getting eclipsed on Mustafar serves as a poignant inversion on it.  With Luke being the wide eyed innocent desperately wanting to go out and see the world in contrast to Anakin having just lost his innocence and regretting it deep down.

The focus Anakin gained when faced with his mother being in trouble is amazing. He quickly figures out what he's going to do, waits until almost sundown, assures Padme he'll be fine so she won't follow him, hauls ass across tattooine, cleverly extracts information about the tuskan Raiders whereabouts from a group of Jawas, and heads to the camp all while being indescribably pissed off.

Why can't the new trilogy just build a scene so beautifully like this. The prequels built and expanded on so many beautiful worlds and created cooler ones. The new trilogy is so focused on forgetting about the prequels but miss out on everything they brought to the table and are strictly working off of whatever was in the OT

0:00-0:42 the fact that these are the same grounds that Luke would be raised on is enough to bring chills to the body. The shot at 0:56 is fucking righteous. 0:04 The goddess Natalie Portman being as sexy as she can be.

Have you noticed that we can see Vader's silhouette as many as 3 times in this short scene? 1st at 0:13, then at 0:56, then again at 1:06. Epic!

I remember getting goosebumps when this scene started. I was like “Ahhh shit, here we go! Anakin’s going to go do some awesome kick ass Jedi stuff!!!”.

Great scene, great music, great outfit for Padmé. We did see a glimpse of Darth Vader, Anakin probably always had within him. But we slso see that Padmé really loves Anakin. She didn't call him Ani, but Anakin like she would say I love you. One more thing: I absolutely love the prequels, like the originals.

+laugh you heart out It's an actually an editing technique called a "wipe". All the Star Wars films uses them for transition scenes.

It's Williams' Score that really punctuates this scene.. the silhouette shot, Anakin Skywalker to Vader.. with Duel of the Fates playing, sounding equal side heroic and foreboding that seems to signal to the audience that this will culminate to becoming a very important and defining moment in the life of Anakin Skywalker. An emotionally _charged_ sequence. One of my favorites from the prequels. It's excellent.
