This is a technical 3D animation of R2-D2. Enjoy!
The original R2-D2 was designed by George Lucas and legendary artist Ralph McQuarrie, who drew inspiration from the cartoon series Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Several R2-D2 models were built for the original Star Wars films; one that was remotely controlled and traveled on three-wheeled legs, and others that were worn by English actor Kenny Baker.
R2-D2 stands for Second Generation Robotic Droid Series-2 and has appeared in eleven of the twelve Star Wars films to date. Astromechs are used in various starfighters as onboard flight support and can operate in the vacuum of space.
R2-D2 was one of several astromech droids on Queen Padmé during the invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation.
The astromech droid was manufactured by Industrial Automaton with masculine programming.

@@tringalij I have never looked at it from this point of view, but if I do, I would change the bar into an auditorium in which thousands of listeners are focused on talking about R2D2. But I remind you that he hung up for some years, so he could not know what was happening at that time, ... well, with C3P0, he later told him everything he knew. In my opinion, someone should make a copy of R2's entire memory, just in case.

R2 deserves his popularity. I've lost count of the neat and emotional lore tid bits of his story. One more emotional post pointed out that R2 both watched Laih be born in episode 3 and watched her pass away in episode 9. The camera angle and lighting was able to imply sad emotions in that very last screenshot of R2 and Laih.

Easy to find footage is in ROTJ when he launches Luke's saber to him near the sarlac pit. I'm pretty sure he had a cable launcher and a body mounted arc welder that he attempted to zap a monkey with. some of the other cool things that a R2 unit could do was to have it's head detached when there wasn't room for the whole R2 without lose of it's brain. The other is that R2D2 (I'm not sure about the others) could extend it's "neck" to fit in a slot that was too tall for him like when he was in the Naboo fighter. I love how the creators thought through those little details that few would even think about! The biggest question I'd love to ask George Lucas is if R2D2 never had a memory wipe, why hasn't he ran out of data storage? Did R2 have to go in to the shop every so often and get an upgrade to his hard drives? I'd also want to ask, why didn't R2 tell anyone that Vader was Anikin, wasn't R2 aware of what was going on?
@Halfscreen
@Halfscreen 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I knew about it but decided not to animate the detached head and why wasn't his memory wipe, I'm assuming George Lucas probably avoid this subject matter.

with Halloween here in the U.S. it could have been fitting to have a headless R2 unit running around. ;P thinking about the memory issue, what if the Star Wars universe had figured out quantum computers? That way they would be able to store data at the atomic scale instead of the nano scale that we use today. Yes I'm over thinking fiction but I find it fun and good for the mind.

You forgot about the extendable neck. R2 has a extendable neck connected by rods that move up and down, and a visible cord that connects his head to his body. Although it was never seen, but i have a blueprint that shows it. And that astromech in the Mandalorian, the final episode of the first season, you could see the droid’s neck extend a bit. (The lava boat droid.)

Hey man i have 2 questions. 1. Which software do you use? 2. Which book do you use as source?
@Halfscreen
@Halfscreen 2 жыл бұрын
I currently used 3DS max. For my sources, Star Wars, the complete vehicles, but for r2-d2, just some random schematic i found on the web.

R2-D2 wasn’t based on the Disney characters of Huey, Dewey, and Louie … he was based on the robots of the same name (obviously named AFTER the Disney cartoon characters) from the 1972 movie ’Silent Running’. 🚀
