The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat-the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader.

Yes- you can hear it in his voice. Especially when he says to Owen that Luke needs to be trained. This actor is phenomenal- you can tell that he made a really concentrated effort to sound like the original actor Alec Guiness. You can hear the "age" in his tone - absolutely brilliant ! 👍🌝

Obi Wan trained the boy into one of the greatest killing machines ever if you ask me. Obi Wan was a Hella of duelist one of the best in the jedi order he taught him well. Probably no better teacher in that aspect although Anakin was a prodigy and was able to learn a lot faster than others. Obi Wan lacked in other areas but the entire jedi council was up their own a ass during that time so it wasn't just him.

because he had experience with anakin, thats why, "like you trained his father" owen knew his dad was a jedi, thats why owen told luke that anakin was a navigator on a spice freighter, he didnt want luke following obiwan on some damned crusade

He’s not just keeping a lookout for him. He’s a Jedi master on his most crucial mission. He’s protecting Luke so he can save the galaxy. That’s a huge point to remember. Obi isn’t doing this just to keep the kid safe, he’s doing it to save the galaxy Edit: he’s not necessarily protecting Luke to save the galaxy he’s protecting him because he knows if Luke can grow up and learn the force in secret then there’s hope. He’s protecting hope.

@@marco002 You have got that completely backwards. R2 is the one that leads the Empire there. Without R2 none of them would have gotten killed. Owen did Keep Luke safe. He was safe for his entire childhood. He leaves with Obi Wan, he's getting shot at within days, get's mauled by a monster changing his face for life, and loses his hand shortly after.

"Owen did Keep Luke safe. He was safe for his entire childhood." Owen did nothing, Obi-Wan handled every threat they faced.. "He leaves with Obi Wan" I never said he should have left with Obi-Wan, I said Owen should have let Luke to be trained so he could protect himself.. "get's mauled by a monster " would not have happened if he would had training.. "and loses his hand shortly after." again would not have happened if he would had training + it was his choice to go it has nothing to do with Kenobi.. both Obi-Wan and Yoda advised Luke to not go..

Owen really is one of a kind, he really doesn't like the Jedi, but is also one of the few that knows not only who Obi Wan truly is, but also that he trained Anakin before (he believes) obi wan killed him. He knows of force sensetivity and he knows a few facts about the Jedi that most aren't privy too. Yet despite it all, he never turns on Obi Wan, never rats him out to the Empire. But then again, that might just be because he fears what they might do to luke if he does.

It’s metaphorical. Obi Wan trained Anakin and failed, thus resulting in Darth Vader. Now based off the dialogue, I’m guessing Owen either doesn’t know or is in denile, but because of Obi Wan and the Jedi’s failure to help Anakin, Darth Vader was born, killing any hope for Anakin to turn back to the light.

45 years to the day a small throw away film "Star Wars" premiered, and there is huge anticipation for a show about the immediate prelude to that movie. Star Wars may have been damaged thanks to the horrid last trilogy, but no other film franchise has enjoyed that kind of longevity. James Bond is probably the only other franchise that comes close.

Your statement makes me wonder whether or not Owen was aware that Anakin eventually became Darth Vader. As far as I can tell, Owen is aware of the Jedi Purge, but he's not necessarily aware that Anakin turned to the Dark Side and became an evil Sith Lord.

“Owen hates Ben” is a weird perspective. It just never seemed right to me. There’s a difference between Owen not wanting Luke to follow Obi wan and Owen actually disliking Obi wan and telling him to go away.

I don't think Owen hates Ben, I think that he loves Luke and wants very badly to protect him. He is afraid. In Owen's mind, Luke will have a far better, happier and safer life on the farm than anything Ben would bring him to. I see 'protective' more than 'hateful'.

@Atomic Beast WRONG. Obi-Wan was Anakin's brother and he wanted the best for him. Therefore Obi-Wan would not want Anakin to be mediocre but the best. Therefore that means he would want Anakin to walk the razors edge.. Be a Jedi. Be disciplined. Be an example. I strongly believe that if Anakin could not do that Obi-Wan would just counsel him to leave the order and for Anakin to raise his family instead. Obi-Wan would support Anakin in that. The root problem is Anakin. He wanted two-way things, to things that split his personality; power and love. He could only have one. I could go on and on, but it's not that simple. You're assumption is incorrect. Nothing personal.

Why didn't Owen and Beru call him Luke Lars? Luke did not know who he was. Why tell him his name is Skywalker?

Owen isn't wrong. Obi-Wan didtrain Anakin and for that he does bear some blame for Anakin's fall, in some people's eyes for not doing anything to stop him.Ut is true that Obi-Wan could ha r killed Anakin, but he was pressed for time and them there was Padme and the babies to consider and the emperor was on his way there for all Obi-Wan knew.

I still don't know how Owen and Beru are aware that Anakin ever became Darth Vader. Did Obi-Wan tell them as he was handing the infant Luke Skywalker over to them? Or was it at a later point in time?

@@Scorch1028 I mean they might explain it sometime in the series. But my guess is that Obi-Wan told them some when he handed Luke over to them to raise and look out for him. Possible too that they might have heard some as well, but I mean can't have been that big of a surprise especially to Owen since he did meet Anakin when he was looking for his mum and saw how he was and that growing darkness ya could clearly see in him and then when he returned with his mother's body and saw how he was then too after he had slaughtered all the sand people. And I mean that's just the thing too that Owen saw Anakin during a time when he was most vulnerable, that Obi-Wan never did, after his mother had died and the aftermath of it all. I feel like Owen saw that growing darkness in Anakin even then.

@@TheSerpent21 I tend to think that Obi-Wan told Owen about Anakin becoming an evil Sith Lord at some point after he handed baby Luke over to him. There wasn't a lot of dialogue time at the end of Episode 3. Obi-Wan bumped into Owen on several occasions before the events of A New Hope, and each time, Owen was coarse with him.

I have always felt, especially after the prequels, that Owen Lars is the unsung hero of Star Wars, and treated terribly by George Lucas’s writing. He had no reason to take in Luke. He knew he would be putting his life and the life of his wife in constant danger. But he did it because he knew he must. And he raised Luke like his own son, as best he could. He was hard, but life as a moisture farmer is no silk cushions and fine dining. Above all, he and Beru kept Luke *safe.* He was portrayed as a stern Uncle, holding Luke back. But, in hindsight, he did everything he could to protect Luke and out of the gaze of the Empire. That’s why he constantly kept Luke from joining the Academy; he knew that if Luke went there, eventually he would be found by the Emperor. But more than anything, he knew that one day it would all go wrong. He knew that one the Empire would find them. And they did. I’ve often imagined the scene after Owen asks Beru where Luke and the droids have gone. Where he sees the Empire on the far horizon, heading towards the farm. It would be kind of like a Sergio Leone movie. He couldn’t have known it was the Droids they were actually looking for. But that wouldn’t matter. This was the day he had been dreading for twenty years. The day he knew would come. And here is where he became the true hero. He faced that fear. He told the Empire nothing. He refused their questions. Spat at their threats. And Owen and Beru Lars gave their lives to protect Luke. And the worst part? After the scene of Luke standing over their burnt corpses, they are never mentioned again. It’s like they never existed. Lucas just brushed them aside and moved on. One thing I hope from this series is that Owen is finally given back something that is long overdue to him. Recognition as one of the most important characters in Star Wars.

I wouldn't call him the unsung hero, but he was a well meaning man who did everything he could to protect Luke. The problem is though that _he was wrong._ Keep Luke ignorant of who he was, and what his potential was didn't save him in the end, it just kept him defenseless. As Obi-Wan pointed out, if Luke had still been at home with the stormtroopers finally showed up, he'd have been killed too. It was pure luck that saved him that time. Owen meant well, but he was wrong. Luke had a destiny, and keeping him from it was neither advisable nor even possible.

@@Hibernicus1968 Interesting, may I provide one minor counterpoint? While Luke DID need to go out into the galaxy in order to fulfill his destiny, Obi-Wan was also partially wrong. Had Luke been trained the way he and Yoda intended (from a young age using classic Jedi curriculum), he'd have probably not been able to redeem Vader. He'd have followed through with eliminating Vader I imagine--without knowing that Vader was his father. Luke was raised by Owen who is clearly a bit gruff, but loves him and willingly protects him. Luke's fundamental compassion is what saves the galaxy and that didn't come from Obi-Wan. His "I'm a Jedi" speech is great, but it's not his Jedi training that compels him to try and save Vader or what gets him to throw down his lightsaber. Additionally, Obi-Wan also lies to Luke just like Owen does(about Anakin, the droids, Leia). So, as much as we may grouch about Owen (I personally don't--I'm loving him roasting Obi-Wan (my favorite Star Wars character)), it's a combination of Jedi training from Ben and Yoda and growing up unconditionally loved by the Lars that saved him and the galaxy. Of course, I respect your frustrations with Owen's choices... I just think it's not as simple as Obi-Wan right, Owen wrong. They're both right and wrong in their own ways because they have differing perspectives. From a certain point of view, they're both right and both wrong.

Star Wars sources explain that Tatooine causes people to "age more rapidly". That's why Owen, Beru, and Obi-Wan look "considerably old for their age" in A New Hope. Non-human species like Rodians and Hutts "age more gracefully" on Tatooine than human do.

@@TheMarksman0415 Actors looked older because they lived during a time when over 60% of all adults in North America and Europe "smoked". Many of these actors smoked 4 packs per day. Ray Liotta who just died at the age of 67 was a heavy smoker, as was Patrick Swayze, who died at age 57. Smoking "ages the hell out of people", and it shortens their lifespans.

Actually, Kenobi kind of shares that blame too. If he hadn't disregarded Anakin's "dreams" as nothing, Anakin might have gotten to Shmi in time to save her.
