The thing I loved about that was when she gets stabbed. She, in that moment, lost the light. Once she maimed him, as a Jedi, she should've waited for him to either surrender or force further conflict. Instead, she chases the conflict by attacking him, leaving an opening of vulnerability. In that moment, she lost the protection of the light and entered the dark and paid the price. Honestly phenomenal writing if that was intended.

It's especially amazing how her daughter surprisingly saved her in the end. Never underestimate a child's love for their parents.

I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, but I always questioned the lethality of lightsabers. They would care rose any wound they inflict pretty much instantly. Yes they can simember someone easily and that is lethal but a stab would not result in an immediate loss of conciousness due to blood loss / blood pressure drop, I don’t think.

It's better than the trash Disney releases these days. It's a small film but all the scenes have a lot of emotional weight and it helps that the protagonist isn't a mary sue

There were a few times they left themselves wide open to an attack the other didn't take, but overall yes, well done. I just watched battles from the first 6 movies and they depended so much on jump cuts and laser flashes... I couldn't make sense of what was happening from a technical pov. This was much better.

Lightsabers are attracted to each other so it would actually make sense for there to be a lot of clashing in a duel

Problem of course being that the Pike's shaft is somehow capable of blocking Saber strikes even though that's NEVER been possible. Even Darth Maul's own Dual-Saber couldn't block saber strikes along it's shaft. One of the many things that makes Dual Sabers and Saber Pikes breathtakingly stupid weapons to bring to a lightsaber fight.

Because the double bladed saber is a different weapon for a different fighting style. There's alot that a pike saber can do that a doublebladed saber cant. For example: strike with a reasonable amount of force.

There was only 1 survival I bought and that was Starkiller. Because after Vader stabbed him and threw him into space, he also had a Droid retrieved him and poured a Darth Vader around of Imperial resources into saving his body/life. I agree, except for the fact that a Jedi of that era wouldn't be a mother. As far as we know, Anakin was the only one who broke the no personal attachments rule. I see this as a survivor of Order 66 trying to protect a youngling who for some reason wasn't at the Jedi temple at the time of Anakin's massacre, from an Inquisitor. Either way it was still bloody good.

I was really hoping for a plot twist of the sort: green saber Jedi gets defeated, child runs to red saber Jedi, screaming "daddy!!!!!!".

I saw it more as a scen from the Old Republic, maybe thousand years ago. The war between Jedi and Sith is constant.

And yet, without the duels in the movies, the fans who make these videos wouldn't be figuring out how to take what was done in the movies to the next level. Best lightsaber duel in the star wars movies was in Ep1. Ep3's was great, too, but single blade vs lightstaff introduced an entirely new dynamic. That was an inspiration to fan film makers, and they have been one-uping it, and each other, ever since.

@J. E. M Sequels? When did this happen and why wasn't I told? :D I know what the OP was referring to. But let's face it, the duels in the sequels barely qualified to use the word. Just some arbitrary saber swinging and clashing just to tick off "Lightsaber scene" from the list of Star Wars tropes they had to put in to barely earn the right to slap "Star Wars" on the label. But hey... It's good to know that if I want a good lightsaber duel fix, There's all these great fan productions that not only do them right, but are constantly daring to mix things up to keep it fresh.

i have a lot more to say about this actually. it ended up on my suggested videos again. i wont say most of what i have to say. but here's the thing. if a hero isn't afraid, and weak, they are not a hero. if a hero doesn't have a conviction so strong that they look to it and gain whatever they need to face death, they aren't a hero. this female hero is THE hero. she is a role model to all humans. she believes completely that she will die, and she proceeds with as much strenght as she can straight into it for the sake of her convictions. this is how you create a female hero.

Yup, it's good to recognize Lightsaber form or fencing form in the duel, not baseball batting form...

A few points. If it will help, here they are: - The acting was solid, especially with the woman. Silent looks and behaviors can convey much. You all clearly remembered to give some stakes to the fight. (The villain was mystifying--I never understood him, though he did feel emotionally alive, rather than a boring plank of wood). Well done, to get to the point and convey everything you needed without faffing about with exposition. Good direction and acting, all! - What good was the meditation in the beginning of the film? It didn't seem to have any effect for her. She seemed to kneel and accept her beheading, before her child saved her. Was the audience supposed to think she was encouraged to fight through her fate because of the earlier meditation, or to resign herself to it? If it were to resign herself, why would she get a second wind to fight harder when she took a second look at the child at the climax of the fight, and again when the kid saved her, as she picked up the staff to skewer the villain? Yet, if to fight through it, why the calm resignation? Confusing. The meditation felt like a "Jedi thing" to throw in for its own sake to make the scene feel Star-Warsy. - Why was the villain's weapon a pike/bladed staff? He didn't seem to utilize the weapon's reach very much. Regardless, if the staff could withstand a lightsaber, what use would he have to employ a blade at all, rather than simply a staff? I suppose the blade would allow greater variety of lethal attacks, but the simple staff would probably be easier to create and wouldn't require an "on/off" switch. More importantly, though, did he know the staff could withstand a lightsaber? If he did, why did he look surprised or affected when her lightsaber didn't break through it? Why did he just stare at her? Shouldn't he have anticipated that and just kept the fight going? However, if he didn't know, why would he even have used that part of the weapon to block her saber in the first place? Also, I didn't understand why she forewent several killing/crippling blows on him to, instead, attack his staff, as though breaking the staff would somehow defeat him. It clearly didn't, as was proven when he choked her. Such significance about his weapon was never suggested in the rest of the film. She seemed weirdly focused on that. - There were several instances of people attacking the weapons instead of each other. However, after 4:20, the choreography took on a much cleaner, motivated approach. That thirty-second bit, or so, was very cool! Nice one! - I didn't buy that she would be defeated in that way. She practically stepped into his blade as he telegraphed his thrust. They had engaged in an intense duel up to that point. She was clearly a capable fighter. She'd had time to see him kneeling on the ground, and to walk up to him with her saber drawn. Why didn't she attack more carefully? How did he stab her with such a basic attack? She wasn't obviously consumed with emotions like anger or desperation; she wasn't mentally fuzzy from a few hard hits; she didn't fling herself in the way to stop his blade from hitting the child; there was no reason given: she just got stabbed. Again, this felt like an artificial Star-Warsy moment: the Force vision had to be fulfilled. - Why didn't the child intervene when the woman was getting choked out? Why only at the very last second before the woman's decapitation? It might have been good to see evidence of the child's Force sensitivity, or instincts or visions, in the earlier portions of the film. Without anything to establish the child's powers or instincts before the kid uses them, the moment when it happened felt artificial. Was the villain chasing the woman or the kid--or both? Was it because of the Force sensitivity of the kiddo? A little more information would've anchored things, I think. Keep making films, y'all! Thanks for your efforts.

I echo that sentiment wholeheartedly...to this day, the 'Grayson' fanmade trailer is memorable as one of the most impactful DC trailers to date (came out maybe 2002-05 can't recall lol). This was composed very impressively, down to the offspring having the Force, similar to the Child (Grogu) in his introduction to Mando. Passionate projects like these can't go unnoticed by the masses forever--the industry needs to evolve.
