It’s cool how Satine used her last words to tell kenobi how much she loved him
@lufsolitaire53512 жыл бұрын
Their bickering was just sexual tension, she did ultimately love him and I think deep down he returned the favor as well. Would be an interesting hypothetical if she stepped down as Duchess and he left the order, married, and had a family and quiet life. But I don’t see either of them wanting that as they both are people who were meant to do great things. Her idealistic attempts to turn a new chapter in her people’s history, and him to go down in history as one of the greatest Jedi to have ever lived.

qui gon on the other hand told his 26 year old padawan who is just about to lose his master to take on too old, ex-slave boy as his own. wtf?
@dustinjones74582 жыл бұрын
Her final words are more than just stock cliche. She knew what Maul was doing, and she knew Obi Wan even with his easy temper, was about to be tempted to the Dark Side-worse than even with Qui Gonn. She reminded him and she loved...him. And that if he loved her, he should remain the person she loved, who was worthy of being loved-no matter what. And Obi Wan is a Jedi Knight. He would never become that which he swore to destroy. He'd never give into his anger and hatred. This is all that saves him, in the novelization version, of falling to darkness. Her regard for him. Some people think Obi Wan was just the ultimate Jedi who could never fall to darkness because of his innate selfless goodness, who never felt temptation to do wrong. The truth is he became an ultimate Jedi because he faced temptation, was sorely tested, and denied it by choice. He overcame his flaws because of his connections-his attachments-to other people. His suffering allowed him to empathize with others, while other Jedi remained stagnant and closed off to emotions.

This shows the difference between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Anakin flies into fits of rage that bring him to the dark side every time someone he cares about is in jeopardy. Obi-Wan will do whatever he can to save somebody including sacrifice his own life, but in a situation out of his control like this he mourns and accepts, but never forgets. I like it.
@darthvader81647 жыл бұрын
He didn't use the Dark Side. He used Determination. That's the difference between Jedi and Sith. Sith use anger and hate to amplify them, while Jedi would keep calm and use their determination to defeat their opponents. He tapped into the force, the light, and it gave him the strength to defeat an opponent much stronger than him. That's how Kanan defeated Maul in Rebels.
@hbjetta6 жыл бұрын
Obi-Wan didn't use the dark side against Maul in TPM, but he did use his anger to fuel his strikes (a dark side philosophy). It was when Obi-Wan was hanging down the pit that he focused and connected to the Force (banishing his fear and anger) that took him so long to understand. It's what gave him the power to pull himself up that high over Maul while force pulling Qui-Gon's lightsaber.

Satine's death was as if the galaxy lost one of its last scraps of innocence left out of that mess of a war. The very next time Obi-wan see's mandalore's surface, it's burning with the fires of war, death, and chaos, like the rest of the galaxy. It was people like Padme and Satine that kept the last glimmers of hope for peace alive. Once they were killed or silenced, nothing could stop the entire galaxy falling apart, just like Satine with Mandalore.
@MultiTcherry3 жыл бұрын
Satine wasn't Maul's enemy. She was just a tool Maul had used to get something he wanted, the throne of Mandalore. And a tool to hurt Obi-Wan. Using a person that way was the worst form of cruelty. What’s crazy is that in the novelization on this episode when Satine died Obi-wan had a vision of what he wanted to do which was to kill Maul and to kill everyone that was involved in Satine’s death. But he stopped knowing he would be giving Maul what he wanted and it’s not what Satine would’ve wanted.

It is interesting. Love is what brought Obi Wan so close to the dark side-he took the risk and chose a loving act-and because he was so close, because he felt love-he was turned vengeful and enraged by the loss-it tempted him to do evil. But, it also brought him back. The positive fought the negative...and this time, the positive won. The Jedi would say that is why they should have no emotions, and the Sith would say he was weak for not embracing them, but the struggle-the pain he endured and didn't give into-made him a stronger person. A better person.

I'm impressed with Obi-Wan's steadfastness. Every person Obi-Wan ever truly loved - Anakin, Satine, Padme and Qui-Gon - came to a terrible end. Three of them died before his eyes (Qui-Gon, Satine and Padme); the other fell to a fate so bleak that death would've been a gift (Anakin). The Jedi Order that provided the entire framework for Obi-Wan's life was consumed by betrayal and slaughter. Every step this long, unfilling journey is one Obi-Wan had to take alone and yet he never faltered. As the rest of the galaxy burned, his path remained true. It is the kind of victory that most people never recognize and yet the bedrock all goodness is built upon. Even Obi-Wan didn't see it. There's more insight to Obi-Wan's thoughts during this scene in the book "Star Wars The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark". 0:19 As Obi-Wan's eyes shifted from Satine to Maul, the image of a red lightsaber flashed in his mind. And Maul was pleased. 0:35 Satine should not be there. She shouldn't have been dragged into a conflict years in the making, begun when Maul murdered Qui-Gon Jinn, the man who'd been the closest thing Obi-Wan had to a father since the the Jedi took him from his parents. 0:50 Obi-Wan still thought there was a chance to turn this right. He couldn't overpower Maul, but he could reach him. Maybe he could match Maul's fury, not with equal fury but with understanding. With sympathy. Maul had not always been this way. He'd had his future stolen from him. He'd been warped by the Force-wielders of Dathomir. He'd been groomed to become the creature of vengeance who stood before Obi-Wan. 1:00 Obi-Wan cringed. His earlier words had not come out as he'd intended. He'd wanted to extend a kindness that Maul had perhaps never experienced. But he let his own anger and his own fear infect his own words with venom. 1:25 As Satine's struggle for air worsened, Obi-Wan's fear turned to terror. 1:40 Brushing the hair out of her eyes, cradling her in his arms, Obi-Wan felt something course through his veins. It wasn't blood. It was something simultaneously colder and yet hotter than blood. It was anger. Obi-Wan fought to hold it back and listened to Satine's last words. 2:03 When Satine died in his arms, Obi-Wan overcame with the same sorrow when Maul killed Qui-Gon. But there was something else, as well. Something dangerous. Something that scorched. Satine wasn't Maul's enemy. She was just a tool Maul had used to get something he wanted, the throne of Mandalore. And a tool to hurt Obi-Wan. Using a person that way was the worst form of cruelty. Satine had been a person, and her death wasn't just a loss for Obi-Wan. It was a loss for so many more. She'd been a child on that world. Like other children, she'd taken her first step, uttered her first word, laughed and chased flitters in the tall grass of the Mandalorian plains. She'd learned to read, made friends, suffered hurts, recovered and laughed again. And she'd become a leader. She should have lived to see her world thrive, to see her people find peace, to prosper, to make music and art. She should have grown old and been able to look back on all she'd achieved. But in a split second, Maul had ended all that. He'd extinguished a light in the universe and replaced it with a shadow. Such an act was truly the definition of the dark side. And Obi-Wan burned with rage. With the rage came a vision: Eyes smoldering with hatred. Screams in the red glare of a lightsaber. Obi-Wan would cleave Maul in two. He would do much worse. There would be nothing left of him. Or Savage Oppress. Or the commandos, those Mandalorian traitors. He would kill Almec. He would kill anyone who'd had a hand in overthrowing Satine, anyone who'd contributed to her death. And he would kill anyone who tried to stop him. Anyone who stood in his way, by word or deed. Anyone. And if Obi-Wan gave in to his desires, he'd be giving Maul exactly what he wanted. He'd become the thing he'd dedicated his life to oppose. He'd no longer be himself. None of that was what Satine would have wanted. Not on her world. Not anywhere. 2:29 As Obi-Wan allowed the commandos to drag him away, only he knew of the painful victory he'd just won - and how he couldn't have done it without drawing strength from Satine Kryze, duchess of Mandalore.

You know what's really twisted about this scene? In the past we've seen lightsabers death that were near instantaneous and all trained lightsaber wielders know how to do this. Yet here Satine lives for a few seconds, clearly in unimaginable pain. Which means that not only did Maul kill Satine in front of Obi-wan just to torment him, he DELIBERATELY aimed for a spot he knew would cause her death to be lingering and painful. You know, just in case we needed even MORE proof that Maul is a sadistic, psychopathic monster.

This is one of if not my favourite moment in all of the Star Wars cannon. In just two and a half minutes Dave Falonie managed to put the philosophy of the dark side and light in such a profund light while also making obiwan’s and maul’s relationship one of the deepest and most meaningful riveralies i’ve ever seen. Maul’s internal weakness that’s been burned into his brain by the Sith and Obiwan’s pain created by the Jedi order has still never been better illistrated. Top that off with incredible voice acting, character animations, tension, score and cinematography makes this episode still the best in the clone wars. Of course that’s all just my opinion. I wonder if any one understands what i’m talking about?
@joshuaweston65312 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I do! By framing Obi Wan in a similar situation to that of Anakin with Padme, you get to see how two different Jedi respond to grief. In Anakin's case, he responded with fear of the thought of loss, whereas Obi Wan witnessed the death of someone he cared about firsthand! It just goes to show that when a person is faced with overwhelming pain, there are only two courses of action. They will either reign it in and hold it, or they will let it out and explode! You get to see how evil is born from a deep sense of love and how good triumphs through cold stoicism...A perfect scene on so many levels. It speaks volumes about the difference between the Jedi and the Sith, all the while making you sympathize with both.

@@sherlockholmes9116 Hard disagree. And for the record, multiple arcs in Clone Wars deal with grief. Anakin losing Ahsoka is one example. Character die or leave all the time but the world moves on because you need to and other people are depending on you. I think Clone Wars showed a very pragmatic way to grieve. Honor people who die and miss them but continue to live because other people are still living. It felt way more healthy to Rebels, where the character broke down and were at risk of being killed by Imperials. You can't waste time grieving when you are in the middle of war.

So I knew this scene was coming, binging Clone Wars on netflix and it still utterly destroyed me for about two days. I mean it came at the same time as a depression spike but still. It's so rare we get a sweet chaste couple that don't agonise over their situation despite not being able to be together, they just enjoy what they have and treasure each other and she's dead. I can't... He just gently kisses her fingers I- QAQ Satine is being choked to death, can barely breathe and she's still more concerned about what seeing this is doing to Obi. She reaches for him as she's stabbed and once she realises she's dying she concentrates on telling him what he needs to hear. She wants him to remember that she'll always love him, wants him to stay himself, not take revenge. She's such a beautiful person, it's such a shame she lived in a galaxy where this was always going to happen due to her ideals.

It is a light side force test... and he passes the test every time. He never acts out of anger, even when he has the most perfect of reasons. Ultimately, the force is a huge responsibility, since the power you wield is so immense.. only people with the strongest character can resist that power's siren song. This is why I love Obi-Wan's character so much. He has the same weakness we all do, but doesn't let them corrupt him to taking an easy path out and dominating those who try to torture him.

There's gotta be some Music Theory nerds out there watching this. Okay, here goes. At 1:35 it starts with the minor base (vi) chord. Then it goes to a major IV, although it sounds like it has a m7 on the end of it, then to a minor iv, then to a major III. Beginning at 2:06, it has what sounds like the minor ii again, then finally ending with an unresolved V. Something about that chord progression and the fact that it went unresolved really hit hard, and made the impact of this even worse for me. It doesn't go back to a IV, but it doesn't move back to base vi either.......somehow that unresolved chord with the brass undercurrents of suspension makes this so much sadder than it would have been if they'd immediately returned it back to the key. Did anybody else feel that way?

For me, saddest Star Wars moment by far. The fact that Obi Wan loved her but could not be with her bc of the code is sad, but actually losing her is worse and using her last words to reassured him that she indeed loved him all this time. The love that could've been.

Couple of trivia facts: James Arnold Taylor, Obi-Wan's voice actor felt that Obi-Wan should be more vocal when Satine dies in his arms. He kept saying that there just wasn't enough emotion being shown but he was told most of what Obi-Wan is experiencing would be shown entirely through his expressions. I think they were right, Obi-Wan's expressions here nail what he's feeling without him having to say anything at all. Obi-Wan and Satine, despite not ever being together in TCW proper, always speak of their love and relationship in the present tense to show how close they are and that their love hasn't died despite taking different paths in life. This even carries to Satine's final words where she tells Obi-Wan that she "always *will*" love Obi-Wan even in death, indicating she will still be with him despite no longer being alive. Obi-Wan's assumption that Maul was willingly given away by the Nightsisters to Sidious to become a Sith is exactly what happened in the Legends continuity, where Maul's well-meaning but very naive mother gave him to Sidious to "save him" so he wouldn't become another Nightbrother used as a pawn by Talzin and the rest of the Nightsisters. Of course, in canon proper Talzin WAS in fact his mother and he was stolen away from her by Sidious, leaving him no choice in the matter of becoming a Sith. Likewise, Maul's tattoos in Legends were traditional Sith markings given to him by Sidious when he was in his teens, which did make it a bit odd that no other Sith shown would possess such tattoos. The idea in canon that they were a cultural process all Nightbrothers undergo makes more sense imo as it gives Maul ties to his people and a part of his past that even Sidious couldn't erase.
