STAR WARS: EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - The Original 1983 Radio Drama.
I have combined all episodes of the original radio drama using excerpts from John Williams' original soundtrack and Ben Burt's sound effects for a more seamless blending from one episode to the next. This is how I want to experience this fantastic piece of work.
I hold no right to the material nor claim any credit for the final product. All content ownership remains with the proprietor of the original works. No breach or infringement of rights intended.
The Empire Strikes Back is a 10-part, (originally 5 hour) expanded radio adaptation of the original The Empire Strikes Back, radio adaptation based on the original film. Produced by HighBridge Audio in 1983 and broadcast on National Public Radio in the US.
A reoccurring question is about the running time of the radio drama. "What has been cut to reduce the original running time? I have removed the narrated intros, outros and end credits from each episode to created the seamless story. This has reduced the over all running time for each complete drama.

He didn't come back to do the Return of the Jedi radio drama adaptation though, which due to legal issues and financial problems of the production studio recording happened in 1996. Anthony Daniels was the only original cast member who returned. Also Return of the Jedi was the only radio drama that wasn't first broadcast on NPR at the time.

I love how this adds context to Lando's position. It always annoys me when people give Lando hate for trying to deal with Vader. It was never a deal. And he was in an impossible position being in charge of the safety and wellbeing of thousands in Cloud City. He was trying to salvage what he could especially since the deal was for Luke and he had no clue who Luke was.

With all the advanced AI technology and 3D CG tech we have now, it's not exactly out of the realms of possibility. They could rejig filmed scenes, like deleted scenes and visualise the radio drama scenes. I have even read that audio AI has advanced to the point that they could mimic the voices of any actor to suit the dialogue of the expanded script. So it would sound as though Harrison Ford actually did record the dialogue.

Maybe the Whole Mendela effect thing derived from the radio drama, because in the radio drama Vader says, "No Luke, I am your father" and of course in movie he just says "No, I am your father" so maybe this is the cause 🤔🤫

Nah. I think the misquote happened here, as it does with most film quotes, because people remembering and delivering the quote after watching the film feel the need to provide context. We all knew that Vader told Luke he was his father. So folks retelling the scene added Luke’s name for context. That gets spread through the culture innocently enough and before you know it people start believing in alternate universes. Silly.

There are a couple of different "crowd reaction" videos from 1980 on KZfaq and Vader says "No, Luke, I am your father." So he definitely said it but George changed it for the home video releases.

I know that Harrison Ford deservedly gets the credit for the line 'I know' after Leia says 'I love you', and always loved his delivery of it, but I have to say that this version is almost better than the original. It contains a certain fear or desparation about what's to about happen to him that is very well done and feels very appropriate for the situation. Scene starts at 2:49:46

The thing I loved about this Radio Drama is that it starts out with a space battle. That was something that was sorely lacking from the film. The film was essentially a car chase in space as far as concerns The Empire and The Millennium Falcon. But the Radio Drama starts with a space battle. Another thing I loved about this was how Brian Daley wrote General Rieekan. The good general sounds like officers I served under when I was in the Army (note, I am not a combat vet), and Rieekan, as written in this resonates very well with me....a reason I have so much respect for the late, great Brian Daley.

Good work, mate. I was 9 when the first film hit theaters. Back then it took a couple of months after its U.S. release for a movie to reach us. But the novelization, Starlog magazine articles and other promotional stuff were already at my disposal, allowing me to "watch" Star Wars as I imagined it in my head with mounting anticipation. I finally got to watch the real deal and it blew my hair back. So much so I stayed through the credit scroll, immersing in the music and starry backdrop until the houselights went up. A bunch of other kids had done the same. We quickly bonded and sneaked into into the theater for repeat viewings so often that the owner dubbed us the "Star Wars" gang, a title we happily adopted for ourselves. Had the local stations aired this radio series my ear would have been glued to the speaker, no question. Ah, the magic years. 😄
