SYNOPSIS
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is a young apprentice Jedi knight under the tutelage of Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) ; Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), who will later father Luke Skywalker and become known as Darth Vader, is just a 9-year-old boy. “Anakin creates C-3PO” does explain a scene from “The Empire Strikes Back” where Darth Vader stops a Stormtrooper from shooting Chewbacca. Why would he do that? Because C-3PO is currently strapped to Chewbacca’s back! The scene takes place when Han is frozen in the carbonite.

The Phantom Menace is pretty underrated in my opinion, not particularly great, but solid regardless. Jar Jar is undeniably annoying but he doesn't piss me off as much as he does a lot of people. Duel of the Fates is easily one of the greatest lightsaber duels in the entire saga, and the action in general (when it does pop up) is pretty entertaining, whether it's the melancholic humor or the cinematography of it all. Young Ani also doesn't annoy me nearly as much as he does the entirety of the fanbase and to be 100% honest I received more entertainment value from Jake Lloyd than I did Hayden Christianson. Now, the dialogue isn't perhaps as cringey as it is in Attack of the Clones, but it, along with a big chunk of the story, can get quite boring. While it's a confusing sit through, I give more positives to this film than I give it negatives. Solid B- for me with a 7/10 on the entertainment scale.

I just got done with watching every Star Wars movie (minus Rogue One which I saved for last) and I'm having a tough time deciding which of the prequels is the best! and yes, I'm a BIG Jar Jar fan.

It becomes a lot better when you read Darth Plageius, I'd say for me it goes from a 6/10 to a 7/10 but Jake Lloyd is so much more annoying to me then Hayden. Hayden is a pretty good actor if you look at 2003 Shattered glass or some other of his movies and the dialogue did hold him back in AOTC but I think he's fantastic in ROTS. Just look at the emotion he conveys when he doesn't speak. Cinematography is great in it as in all Star Wars films though and overall I like all the Prequels and Phantom Menace though don't think it's as good as the other 2 but have ranked 7 out of 10 Star Wars films

All Luckz well screw the critics, they hated on the Original Trilogy as well when they were initially released. It’s just their opinion, it wasn’t until the kids who grew up on the originals became critics that those films got highly rated

All Luckz and most people like the prequels anyways, it’s just that people who don’t like them are more vocal about it. Also it’s only in the UK and North America that they weren’t highly received, other places like Europe, Russia and Latin America, they were received better than the originals.

Nintendo Gamer He would probably just rank each individual movie. If you want it ranked by trilogy just assign each movie a point value based on its placement in the ranking then average out the point values for each trilogy.

I am 20 and I have hella nostalgia for the phantom menace as a kid loved it, as I got older I can see the flaws people were talkin about, but my opinion of the movie it’s pretty decent, it’s watchable, duel or the fates is such a classic and iconic song that song just defines my childhood and Darth Maul is the ultimate bad ass

I always interpreted that ultimately the underlying concept of Midichlorians was even in the OT, that it was linked to genetics "the force is strong in my family" -Luke Skywalker, and also in that not every being exhibited it (if the force was able to be strong in everybody with a bit of practice, most beings would naturally want to be Jedi and that wouldn't work or fit with the numbers of the Jedi, how they fell and why everyone just accepted its suppression). I also believe Midichlorians gives evidence to Obi-wan's explanation about the force in ANH "surrounds us and binds all living things together" and then obviously there's the "midichlorians aren't the force, they are organisms that feed off it indicating one's potential not actual power" lol but that's definitely the way it worked though and it always worked into and fitted into the definition of the force and that practice explanation as well (you can tell that even in TPM, and then throughout all the other films and episodes, as young Anankin at the age of 9 was never as powerful as Yoda despite his midiclorian count). To me midichlorians just made sense and explained the numbers of the jedi, why they were selective and not as involved and why not everyone in the OT ran around using it and forgot about it and why by Luke's own words in the OT the Skywalker family was so strong. In the end though I like how corrupt and flawed it makes the order look still, that they were too focused on this aspect when they shouldn't have been.

I really like AOTC, I'd give it a 7/10 opposed to the 6 I'd give TPM but all the bad I can find in AOTC is the love story (the fireplace scene is fucking unforgivable lol) and C3PO stuff but I love the espionage, mystery, political thriller, assassination, corruption of the Senate and Jedi Order and everything to do with Obi-wan, Jango, Dooku, Palpatine and the Jedi. It just feels like a classic open-ended noir film

Another good thing about this film is its locations and settings. Tatooine is classic, Caruscant is imposing, and Naboo is so colourful and beautiful. Probably one of my favourite Star Wars films in terms of locations and settings. I also find it quite refreshing due to the fact that it is set way before any Star Wars film in a time of peace, which allows it to be a lot more fun and laid back at times, hence why I think it embraces some of the childish stuff a bit more.

The only issue I can see with making Obi-Wan go meet Anakin is that I don't think things would have played out the same way if it was Obi-Wan who went to Tatooine and not Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan was a very strict, straight-laced, by the books kind of Jedi. I don't think he would have been willing to gamble the Queen's ship on Anakin's podrace in order to free him. Even if Obi-Wan went some other route I don't think he would have done the unconventional tactics needed to free Anakin that Qui-Gon did. If Obi-Wan had gone to Tatoonie instead of Qui-Gon I think we would have gotten a much shorter movie series as I don't think Anakin would have left with them.

Daniel Stark you don’t think Anakin would leave with them. I think it makes sense that the younger Jedi is the one that cheats at the dice and the older one being Qui-Gon Jinn would play by the rules and play at a fair bet. Unless Wato put a weights on the red sides of the dice 🎲 thus cheating at the bet as well. Who knows that dice could’ve have been loaded.

I think some sort of subplot regarding the departure of Dooku from the Jedi Order would better set up the rest of the trilogy as well. So I’d argue that either Qui Gon investigates the clones like you said or he investigates the situation relating to his old mentor.

I actually love this movie, as a little kid watching it I could relate to young anikin so so much. I think that's what lucas was going for and then later realized his mistake about the character development for anikin which is what spawned the clone wars which solves pretty much all of those problems. Not for the movies but for the story telling it fills those whole and literally everyone loves the clone wars because its amazing. Good review, I don't disagree with your points but I still enjoy this movie for what it is.

Viewing each one individually and not part of a larger story, Phantom Menace is the most entertaining (story, visuals, music) of all the Star Wars movies and Rogue One is the best one overall.

I always love your reviews Sean, and as much as I personally love the prequels I do see and understand the criticisms, and some of the hate. So your ideas sound really great to me, and would make this trilogy a much tighter story and experience. One idea I had was to make Jar Jar a disgraced, quircky, alien, warrior who is a little bit of a coward. And his arc is to overcome his cowardice and regain his honor again

I actually like this film, but I admit its my least favourite of the first 6 films (I'm 19 btw). Your ideas for how to make it better are actually quite good, particularly the Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon reversal. However, I don't know if this would work within the context of the prequel story. Qui-Gon got on well with Anakin, he was supposed to train him, but Obi-Wan gets this thrown on him, and in part fails Anakin because he didn't know how to train him effectively. If Qui-Gon trained Anakin, would he have turned into Vader?

Great review. Really liked your idea on fixing some of things in TPM, your actually not only fixes the movie, but improves the flow of the prequels as well. Only thing about it is that it ends TPM on such a darker note. But very interesting take and looking forward to seeing your reviews on the rest of the prequels.

I actually really enjoy this film! This is probably because I grew up with it because it came out the same year as I was born. I love the prequels and believed they were the better Star Wars movies growing up. I now think that “A New Hope” and “Empire Sprites Back” are better but Episode 1 and 3 get a worse rap than they should. I am bias though. Overall I enjoyed your review Chris and believed it to be faire, even though I didn’t agree with all of it. I at least can see where you are coming from with most of your points. Keep up the good work man, love your videos!

I only watched this movie a year ago and I don't think it's hatable.It's got a great cast, excellent score, beautiful locations and interesting ideas but is limited by...everything else. I won't seek it out but I can get through it with some fun had. Great review,Sean. 6/10

In a sense, I don't fully blame Lucus for the bad execution and directing faults. He did try to get others to direct, probably knowing he wasn't the right one for it, but no one he spoke to wanted to take it on.

The prequals are my least favorite Star Wars movies, none the less, I watch them when i do a Star Wars marathon, every Christmas break. I simply enjoy everything that is good in them.

After RoS comes out u should rank the three trilogies Or The animation Clone Wars (old, new, and movie), Rebels, and the trash show Resistance Or After the obi wan and Cassian Andor come out u can rank the live action shows Or The star wars specials

I didn't mind the Anakin 3PO connection. It was kind of funny and a bit ironic. I don't think it detracted but it also didn't add anything either.

I Love this movie...I saw the original first in 99 .pops took me; and put me on to this franchise, rerelease I was 7.. Then i saw the prequels wat was it 01?..i forget lol but I was captivated by the CGI and how it expanded and introduced me to the EU back then. then I was officially in love forever 😃

At least the humor from Jar-Jar and the gungans is better than the humor of the sequels. (eyes on The Last Jedi) Also I would've liked to see what you would've changed in the Original Trilogy, because even those films aren't masterpieces imo. Your plot revisions are pretty good and I agree with most of them but here's what I would've done: -set up Jango Fett, Count Dooku, or General Grievous, so it doesn't feel like random characters are being introduced only to be killed off in the same movie (preferably all) -start the Clone Wars, but somehow structure it in a way that we get the Battle of Geonosis and Geonosis Arena Battle, as they were extremely entertaining in my eyes -set up clear character arcs for the main characters that will somehow be able to span the entire trilogy -make Mace Windu less serious and stoic. -keep the underwater adventure scene, as I enjoyed it, but remove the trip to the gungan palace, just have Jar-Jar mention it as they pass by it or something. -have the team split up while escaping from Naboo. -I was going to somehow set up a relationship between Jango and Anakin, having Jango be the one to sell Anakin and his mother into slavery, and over the course of the second movie have Anakin understand why Jango Fett acted the way he did. Ofc Anakin's still going to be mad, but he's not going to kill him. -set up a better relationship with Anakin and Palpatine

I loved what you said about the Structure of this film. Brought something new to the table that not many seem to discuss. I really dislike this movie but there is a certain charm to it that the other 2 films in the PT dont have. I cant really put my finger on it though. Loved the review.

Great review. As you talked about in your video, I have personally made my own edited versions of the prequels also including a few of the deleted scenes and I now love the prequels. They are just to long and have to much fluff or just plain silliness. I managed to get all three films down to just under 2 hours.

This was my favorite of the series when I was really little because the LEGO Star Wars levels were my favorites. It’s funny because the empire levels are probably my favorites now and that’s my current favorite of the movies

I didn’t grow up with these films. I grew up with the sequels. This film is the mist boring of them all. I honestly can’t believe people say that the prequels are better than the sequels

Um, I’m going to have to go ahead and kinda/sorta disagree with your thoughts on the trip to the Gugan City Sean. The “side quest” doesn’t really bother me, the world building and technical brilliance on display is too much to resist. Something TFA most certainly did not have.

It seems like they show that somewhat with Anakins Pod racing skills and that they established that the force was in Anakin.
