@@aniketupadhyay lasers were used against unshielded targets. Ground vehicles and troops on Arrakis can't use shields because it attracts worms. Fremen could not take down shielded ornithopters with lasers so they had to use grenade launchers instead.

That said, I don't think that Lightsabers are technically lasers. More likely plasma or something. Meaning they probably wouldn't cause an explosion. The best chance Paul has in a fight is just letting the lightsaber hit his shields so they both die. Anakin is too strong willed for the voice to work and is just as capable in close quarters combat without the force.
