I remember watching that night and remembering William Holden's warm acknowledgement of Barbara Stanwyck. What a class act. You can tell it totally caught her off guard. How beautiful she looked that evening too. We don't have enough of this in this day and age.

@Pat Tyson Today's stars, bless 'em, just haven't got that mystique. A couple come close, Meryl I suppose, but it was all down to the studios creating a sense of magic around each personality, to make them appear 'not quite one of us'.
@NellyHanky11
@NellyHanky11 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewthornhill7042 I totally agree. I often say to myself that Meryl is the "last great movie star". I don't think any one actor of group of performers will be seen in the future the way we saw them in the past. Perhaps that's healthier. But the sense of "mystique" is alluring - I agree with you!

When I was 5 years old and heard the sound of the opening theme, combined with the Star Wars title by 1977 in theater, ¡I stayed in shock! 😲 that's was epic... and the lasers sounds... change the films forever. Greetings from Monterrey, México. 🤙🏼 5-4

What that Visual Effects team did in 1977 for SW. Is nothing short of amazing. Did they changed the face movie making. No one had seen special effects like that before done so well. The talent that was around in film making in the 1970s and 1980s is nothing short of incredible. Its no surprise all the best movies ever made came within the span of those two decades.

These are both very interesting presentations. I was surprised to see Dykstra, as well as Stears, and Blalack so gracious to Lucas and Kurtz. Stories of their parting with Lucas put them at odds and of course these three gentlemen did not go on to make any further Star Wars movies. Edlund, the third Visual Effects speaker, however, stayed with ILM and finished the Star Wars trilogy as well as Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Sorry. I wasn't speaking about Holden and Stanwyck specifically. I was talking about all presenters of the non-acting, non-directing categories because they often have many nominees per film. I just think it's better to simply say the film instead. Speaking on the presenters for a change, I loved the reaction on Stanwyck's face when Holden began his affirmation. Don't assume all commenters are looking for something ill to say. Everyone knows how awesome this moment was from the start.
